Quite enjoyed the final episode, although it did feel a bit contrived in that The Watcher specifically chose heroes from “What If” - and even then, only selected ones. So he didn’t bring “Frat Thor” version of Captain Marvel or “Dead Avengers” Captain America or literally everyone from the “Tchalla Star Lord” universe (including Thanos!). But it did make for fun TV. They had the star lord version of T’Challa!

But it did make for fun TV. Yeah, I thought this at first, coz surely you'd just pick seven different variants of Captain Marvel? But then I realised that this was all "part of the plan", that somehow with his Watcher-y-ness he'd picked this specific combination to get the outcome he did. That whole Doctor Who thing of having it all laid out in advance but not telling anybody. He didn’t plan it, he just watched all the multiverse multiverse variants where he hired different people and this was the best one.

I want these stand alone series to be as far as it goes honestly. Bad enough it feels like I'm obligated to watch every movie and Disney Plus series to keep on track with what's happening, I dont want to have any multiverse characters entering the mix either. I like watching all the stuff, most of it floats my boat, although Falcon and the Winter Soldier was dipping beneath the waves for most of its run. I didn’t even think about the stupid boat subplot until after writing that strained metaphor. But I’m also familiar with how they used to do this in comics, and my every expectation is that none of the Disney Plus shows will be remotely essential to the movies. Kang can be introduced as a villain in Ant Man 3 without ever referencing Loki or He Who Remains, though they might slip an Easter egg in. Wandavision? “I found this magic book and new costume, Doctor Strange.” “Oh, okay.” “Hey, I’m Captain America now. This is my costume.” “Yeah we saw Steve Rogers anoint you in Endgame.” There’s nothing from these shows that can’t be explained away in a movie with a single line of dialogue, or just not at all. Agatha Harkness could turn up as a dark witch with her own agenda and there’s no need to recap WandaVision at all.

Yeah, they’re all subplots that you can watch as extra stories.

I’m guessing there’ll be nothing essential in Hawkeye’s series either but, Loki aside, the Disney+ shows have been pretty good expanded universe content.

I think the Hawkeye one will be very entertaining, it seems to/ be leaning into comedy and he carried that very well in Age of Ultron, as others pointed out.
I have this theory that Loki will bookend the phase 4-6 Multiverse / Big Bad storyline - with a lot of extraneous Kang stuff shunted into that. Maybe the last series of Loki will seem like it will wind up back with He Who Remains in charge, but Loki will break the cycle somehow while also getting the multiverse back in its box.

I've seen all the Marvel movies up to and including endgame, most in the cinema. I keep forgetting I haven't seen Far From Home. I'd have gone to see Black Widow if it wasn't for Covid, but I can't seem to summon any enthusiasm to go see Shang Chi or The Eternals. They both look very uninspiring. Hawkeye looks like a fun biddy-cop Die Hard style thing.
[edit]i'm not going to fix that typo

[edit]i'm not going to fix that typo Shang-Chi is really, really good fun for the first 100 minutes or so, then it all goes a bit Wonder Woman. Still in the top half of my MCU ranking however.

I remember him as Eustace Scrubb, but checking a growed-up photo of him, he has the eyebrows to play Adam Warlock.

I remember him as one of the Son of Rambow kids, so the fact he's now a superhero has aged me greatly.

He does have one of those faces that you can imagine being a bit alien (also see Eddie Redmayne)

He is also in "We're the Millers" one of the funniest films ever. Just, so, good.

I'm guessing the success of GotG made them think "ensemble movie of characters virtually no-one has heard of" was a winning formula.

It's always looked awful to me. Not helped by a pretty awful cast too.

I know this sounds silly but it looks really fake in the trailers. I guess maybe its the cinematography or something but the suits just look really stiff and costumey not part of something more cohesive.
It’ll be interesting to see how things go in Phase 4 as the characters every knows and like leave and are replaced by characters even comic book wankers can’t be arsed with in print.

All I could gather from the trailers was that it's set on a beach, features a bunch of budget Supermen and looks incredibly dull.
Not exactly selling it.

Since I imagine it's based on Neil Gaiman's run, it will probably be as glacially boring as the trailer looked.
Yes, I think Neil Gaiman is incredibly overrated and dull.

Kit Harrington surely pulled out his full repertoire of emotions (slightly confused and really confused) for this one.

Yeah him and the other Game of Thrones guy shouldn't be anywhere near big budget films like this. And Angelina Jolie is dead inside.

A few reviews have liked it, but more as a slow paced character piece and romance, which probably isn't what most people are looking for from a Marvel movie.
Frankly, it's never looked that appealing to me. The choice of director was strange, but the entire concept of a bunch of unknown overpowered immortals fighting a bunch of other overpowered immortals just sounds dull. I really don't understand why they decided to make a movie about this lot at all, other than the fact they needed to come up with something to do after Endgame.
