A great Insomniac game? Who would have thought it! Weirdly wish they skipped Miles and went straight to this. Nah, you needed the Miles game to get to this game and it was great for a character like Miles Morales to get their own game tbf.

It was quite compressed because of the game length and I really didn't sympathise with the main villain at all but it was still a very good game in its own right.

The bits they tidied up from the first one meant it played better and I think the moment to moment bits and bobs are improved but I disliked the story and characters so much it kind of soured the whole thing for me.

Only thing that was a bit of a negative for me was the game length of MM. Made the main story feel quite rushed and no real impact.
Still loved playing it though.

I personally thought the slightly more compact game worked in its favour. It made the action feel more varied with less padding. But agree the story itself was a bit meh.

I was so burned out in the combat that I never finished MM. can’t argue with the production values, and that new trailer for the sequel looks fantastic, and I’m very much here for that practically instant fast travel with the map to real world transition, but I can’t really get excited for it unless the combat and activities have upped their game.

Well I'm definitely up for it, Insomniac are probably one of the best Devs Sony have in their stable as well one of the best Devs out there right now. Plus I just love Spider-Man and it's great to have such great Spider-Man games out there after the absolute bollocks that Activision let out for ages.

I much preferred MM to Spidey 1. Not sure why really.

Probably what kal said, it was far tighter with less filler. And no bollocks autofail stealth section. Both were amazing but I definitely enjoyed my time with MM more.

Auto fail stealth sections need to get in the bin. Lose all tension even after a 2nd failed attempt.

I find I often really enjoy DLCs for big open world games (I know MM wasn’t strictly DLC but same principle) because of this.

Yeah, Miles is a great character and that's why I'm glad he got his own game rather than being shoehorned into 2 without any dive into his character. My ass temps are high for this game.

Hate to mention Ass Creed in the context of a vastly superior open world game - but I enjoyed all of the DLCs in Valhalla more than the main game due to their more focussed nature and lack of a need to be 4,000 hours long.

I should pick up the original again, I really enjoyed it as far as open world games go. I think a great traversal system is probably the thing that keeps me invested in these things the longest, and the first game was top of the class in that regard.
But yeah, like with most of those things, I eventually got bored and distracted by other shiny games.

I loved the first game and enjoyed MM a lot. Recently replayed the first on PC and enjoyed it, but didn't love it quite as much as I did originally. The combat was the biggest issue for me. There was just very little actually to it, with lots of gadgets that felt quite similar and not much need to mix up how you approached fights.
Still a great game, but it did leave me thinking they needed to add some more variety with this sequel. We've seen very little of the regular combat (outside of big set pieces, so still feel like it a bit of mystery how this one will play and whether it will be much different. The trailers appear to show some more elaborate moves, but still not sure how those will actually be worked into the moment to moment gameplay and how much of it is just flashy cinematic moments and how much is player controlled.

I’m a bit of an outlier in the gaming world it seems as I never really got the love for the first game. It was just another Spider-Man game, doing pretty much exactly the same things the other 70 versions that came before it did, just a bit prettier.
Oh look, I’m swinging through NY. Again.
As bog standard an open world action game as I’ve played, just with even more boring filler activities.
Je suis une curmudgeon.

They share quite a lot of DNA with the Arkham Asylum games for me, and the combat is one of the shared flaws. You just tend to find the pattern that works 99% of the time and then you just keep going until the whole mob are dead. Rinse and repeat.
Thought MM mixed things up but Invisibility did makes things quite easy to become routine

Don't know how you could compare the Insomniac games to the other Spider-Man games and say they were "just another Spider-Man in the same mould".

I'd love the game if it was just swinging around NYC and nothing else. It's so satisfying.

MM game was good and the christmas snow setting was great (and I played it at christmas time last year) I did think Phin was terrible villian, they tried to make you think she is actually right but it really failed. As it was stand alione expansion, it didn't have to much bloat. Would like to see MM game based on the style of into the spiderverse films

The side content in both games was quite weak but the gameplay and world were great. I would much rather the side content was done as mini little stories that led to a minor villain to take down. You could still have the crime in progress stuff for those that want it but intend to dodge most of that stuff as much as possible.

The mainline story and missions were amazing though. The set piece battles were world class. I have no doubt the sequel will have spectacle… I just hope the moment to moment grunt work doesn’t drag it down.

Yeah absolutely, I'm a big fan of both games, I just think it would benefit from a bit of trimming round the outside and I hope they have done it this time.

It really needs a load of outstanding set pieces as the city won't do nearly as much heavy lifting 3rd time around.

The city is a lot bigger and has completely different areas like the bit of queens which is suburbs. It's also more densely populated so I expect it to wow everyone again.
