This is the thread where we age everyone.
I was steadfastly sure my first cinema experience was Lion King, followed by The Mask in 94.
However, I have since remembered that the John Goodman Flinstones was both a thing and it came it before the others. So, that. Fucking marvelous.
But, on a positive, The Mask was a great experience in a small cinema in Leicester where you got your sweets at an old sweet shop nearby and they lifted a red curtain for films.
Your go.

Watership Down in 78/79 when I was 5. I had to be taken out, sobbing.

Watership Down in 78/79 when I was 5. I had to be taken out, sobbing. Why do the eyes that burned so brightly suddenly burn so pale? Brexit probably. Putting aside Disney toss like Escape To Witch Mountain or Freaky Friday, which don't count, it was The Spy Who Loved Me.

Apparently Honey, I Shrunk the Kids was my first cinema experience, but I have no memory of that (would have been 2). First film I can actually remember was a re-issue of The Jungle Book, which a quick Google-fu tells me would have been 1990, so would have been 3.

I have a vague memory of seeing Return of the Jedi in the cinema but it’s hazy and I’m not entirely sure it’s a real memory.
The first thing I very clearly remember seeing was Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend.

I think The Little Mermaid, but I really don't remember it very well.
Definitely remember going to Jurassic Park though because it was my first time in a Odeon rather than tiny provincial cinema and I remember being mildly terrified of the city kids throwing popcorn around the auditorium.

Can't remember the first, but my mum loved to get rid of us for a few hours by sending us to the local small town cinema. The Crying Game is the first wildly inappropriate one I can remember (aged 10)
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves would've been an early one I suppose (still a guilty pleasure)
BTTF2 is probably the oldest that I can think of.

Ha, I spent many a summer in the local cinema all day when my mum went to work. My favourite was Star Wars, Empire and Jedi back to back. Was amazing.

For years I thought it was The Transformers: The Movie, when I was about four or five (it came out around Christmas '86 and my birthday is near Christmas, so I might have even gone on my fifth birthday). This would be incredibly on-brand for me and make perfect sense. If you were writing a fictional biography of my childhood, you would absolutely have me watch Transformers as my first trip to the cinema.
However I've recently discovered that Disney re-released Bambi in cinemas in 1986, and I remember seeing it when I was really little, so in all likelihood it was probably Bambi. But "print the legend", I'm gonna keep pretending it's Transformers.

Adventures of Baron Munchausen or Batteries Not Included at the long-gone Odeon in Peterborough
Edit - BNI came out in 87 so it would have been that. Also have vivid memories of seeing Tim Burton's Batman in 1990. I was 11 and I think it was the first ever 12 rated film. Remember bricking it is get in trouble on way in (despite going with my parents) and being pretty horrified by that scene where The Joker first sees his reflection in a vanity mirror.

Jurrasic Park when I was about 4/5. Remember coming out of the cinema absolutely buzzing and became obsessed with dinosaurs.

Star wars.
What a start to the cinema.
He'd been over in the states for work and seen the massive queues there, so thought that's the film for me to take the lad to for his first film.
Cheers Dad!

My mum took me to see the Little Mermaid. It had some catchy tunes, so it was alright!

I think my first cinema movie was Moonwalker of all things, so I would have been about 5/6, at the Showcase cinema in Walsall which I think lasted upto only a couple of years ago, which is kind of incredible when you think about it.

Ah, Moonwalker is a good shout now you mention it. It could've been that, or possibly Crocodile Dundee 2

The Crying Game for a 10 year old is hilariously inappropriate.
I may have done some Mandela work in thinking I saw Jurassic Park at the cinema but I'd have been 4.
I also don't think Nelson Mandela was there.

I may have seen others before it, but the first I remember is Tron. I remember coming out and wincing in the natural light after 90 minutes of bonkers special effects. It's easy to knock now, but we were blown away by it as young kids.

Jungle Book. It would have been in about 1983 so it was a re-release. Funny to think how before the proliferation of home video that would happen quite often.

I definitely saw Ghostbusters 2 at the cinema. Can't be sure if that was the very first one but it's likely.

I'm not really sure. I definitely saw E.T and Dark Crystal in the cinema, which were both 1982, but I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of kids movies as my mum used to take me to the Odeon for the weekend matinee shows quite often. Back when they'd show one of those short, kinda movies first, then have a break for the icecream lady to come out, then show the proper movie. It was probably a Disney animation, but the main one I remember is Black Cauldron and that was after E.T and Ghostbusters 2. The earliest ones I remember are those, but Neverending Story and Return to Oz. I'm kinda amazed I didn't see RotJ in cinemas.
I also remember the one about the dog and cat who have to go on a long journey to get back to their home.. but that might have been an older movie that got reshown infront of something else.

Watership Down in 78/79 when I was 5. I had to be taken out, sobbing. I still remember the nightmares from when it was on TV when I guess I was the same age. First cinema film I remember is Superman 4. Best film ever.

That's a good question. I'm not perfectly sure myself. The oldest movie I think I can somewhat remember watching on a big screen was Edward Scissorshands, but my memory is fuzzy on that. It's well possible it was one of those cheaper reruns and I watched something else even earlier.
Most probably not a cartoon movie though. For those, my parents usually just bought the VHS (both to save money and because they knew me and my brother would want to watch them over and over anyway).
