Full release will have more character creation options. So think about the char now as your v.01 only

I'm a bit old fashioned so typically still go for physical copies when I can - that didn't appear to be an option for BG3 though (I've got the Steam digital version ordered). It has meant very little in the way of leaks though. I'm trying to think of another example where a high profile release hasn't had any early physical copies released into the wild - I don't think digital-only is the norm even these days?
In other news I'm thinking I'll avoid my old BG1/2 rogue or ranger choices and maybe try something different/silly like a bard. I always say I'll try an evil play through but I'm too soft.

Same here. Evil for two missions then “oh no,” back to good.

Yeah, I play games to be the big damn epic hero (humble too).
For example, I don't play Mass Effect to be Commander Shepard: Space Asshole!!

It's kind of fun to do that on a second playthrough just to see how pear shaped things turn.
I should stop reading this thread. I've already got FF XVI on the go and Jedi Survivor next, along with a couple of switch games to play...

I often find being an asshole just means taking the quick route and missing out on content. For most games, the naughty option is to just tell people to piss off. Knights of the Old Republic is one of the few games I can think of that truly let you do evil. I think it even often allowed you to pretend to do good before turning to the evil option, so you could really role play the manipulative bastard.
I was thinking of being a bit of a dark arts kind of character here, but I suspect I will just end up being a sickly sweet good guy.
Slightly regretting getting the GoG version now (can't even remember why I got it there - was it not on Steam for a while?) Makes being able to play on Steam Deck that bit more fiddly and a big long game like this would be handy to be able to switch between PC and Deck.

I have zero problems with going evil. It's a role playing game, I'd generally prefer to play sometime who isn't just... me.
But the problem with these kinds of games (hopefully not this one) is that the evil path often boils down to "oh so you like murdering random people for no reason and selling other people into slavery, huh". Which is evil, sure, but it's an unhinged kind of evil that just kind of bores me.
That, and some actions are coded as evil when they shouldn't be. Like, say, asking to be paid for the work you do, which should have nothing whatsoever to do with alignment!
So yeah, I'm glad that alignments aren't a thing anymore. I am totally going to invest in the mind worms in this game, because really... why would you not?

Downloaded it, toyed around with the character creator a bit and played through the introduction. Seems fine. The narrator is that lady wot played Malady in D:OS2, so I guess I'll be going through this one feeling a bit, erm... funny. She's put some outtake videos on YouTube. I have a crush on her too 😅 "I'm a bard, I can FUCK my way through any problem!"

I'm incapable of being really evil on a first playthrough, but if I'm replaying an RPG I'm not above things like solving quests nicely and then murdering everyone in cold blood for the loot and XP. I am totally going to invest in the mind worms in this game, because really... why would you not? Mass Effect was a particular offender in that regard for me. Because Paragon/Renegade were actual unlocks it felt like you were being punished for roleplaying the situation rather than choosing between binary Space Jesus/Space Asshole options. Being "punished" in the form of story consequences is fine, but actively getting scored and locked out of options later in the game just feels bad.
The dialogue wheel didn't help either as there were a couple of situations where I thought I'd be rightly calling someone's bullshit but ended up saying/doing something horrible instead.

Tyranny was a great game on letting you be a villain not evil maniac.
Still when a poor merchant was harassed by some goons i immediately jumped to his safety. Then had to reload cause that felt like not something my character would do.
Nevertheless kicking a "good" npc from a top of the tower did feel good.
With bg3 it seems it will allow more than just wanting more money and killing everyone as evil choices.

Playing evil never feels right. Only time I ever did it was KotR where darkside powers were more fun. Making the wookie kill his friend was probably the most evil thing I've ever done in a game.
Normally I'm an absolute paragon of virtue. Even my drunk, drug abusing, corrupt cop in Disco Elysium has ended up being a good guy for the most part.

Nice to hear most of us are do-good hero types. Surprised that is the typical FG demographic tbh!
I also don't have a viable PC so will be attempting to run this off a Steam Deck... I am off on hols for a week though so timing works well (even if the playing experience with a Deck is shit!)

I have a feeling the Steam servers will creak, moan and probably fall over due to no preload.

Have any of you signed up for a Larian account? Are the bonus items or rewards worth it? They're all i would care about.

Sod it, ordered... I've had an utterly shit week in work with the added upside of lots of overtime to claim, so might as well reward some devs. Got the house to myself this weekend, so I'll be playing this in my pants with a pizza.

Just checked and there's a 105GB update for BG3 on GOG, downloading it now. edit: Hopefully it's the full version as the EA version was 68GB

And people thought someone beating Dark Souls using a Guitar Hero controller was impressive

The problem with being naughty is it often involves ganking some random NPC only to find out late game they were the trader who had the swamp gem, an essential element of the stinking ankheg armour +6.

Downloaded in 30 minutes 😁. Loving it so far, even though I have no clue what I am up to. Tempted to buy the PnP rulebooks since it does not come with the heft manuals of old!

WoTC have made the basic DnD 5e books available for free, it's only the extra books with classes and stuff like that, that you pay for. I did a search for "DnD 5e PDF" and there's tons of links about.
There are a lot of collections on Archive org too. e.g.
