Shooty souls like.
Played a few hours now and it's much better than the first (which I liked). Bosses dont end up with a million adds like the first either and there are some cool secrets and events.
Sound is really quite good as well, does a good job of alerting you to everything that is going on
Quite cheap by today's standards as well so worth a punt if you are looking for something new to play.

It’s fucking brilliant so far. Only been pissing about in the first proper area, then did a side area which was very cool (and contained a massive wtf moment when a boss appeared out of nowhere with bugger all warning). I’ve gone the dog handler because who doesn’t want a good boy at your side.

Really want this, but it’s come out of nowhere and Diablo’s Lilith is eye-fucking me from across the living room. It’s probably my dream game, Souls with guns though…

Yeah, I really liked the first one. The hub world was a bit shit, some of the puzzles were a bit obtuse and the last boss was such a difficulty spike it forced me to respec but, overall, it was actually really fun.
I did play it very, very late though and had, by all accounts, a very different experience to people who played the shitty v1.

I've been playing the early access, and... it's OK? It's got the same problem as the original one, which is that the procedural environments just don't work for me. There's nothing really carefully staged about the combat, just a bunch of tiles stuck together with random enemy spawns who all just run at you while you sit in a chokepoint mowing them down for the most part. There's none of the tension or feeling of danger of souls, and aside from having a dodge roll and infrequent check points I still don't feel like the game has much in common with it.
There's lots of nice secrets and build options though. A number of the bosses have been very poor. And a lot of a bit of a design tension issue with how the game works; there's seemingly a lot of bosses that want to melee fight you like a souls boss in this one, but the way movement works in this game doesn't really gel with it. Since you can't turn and run toward the camera, only back up, you have to turn away from bosses to put distance between you and them or to reposition away from adds, leaving you totally blind to attacks.

I thought this should be just my kind of game, but I am finding it ... a bit shit so far.
First of all, what's with the (not remappable) controls? L1 = health, R1 = weapon alt mode, but L1+R1 = special skill? I've yet to try and use the special skill without either taking a potion or activating weapon alt mode.
I also find it annoying. It's not difficult because you need any skills, but because of flying enemies that randomly spawn behind you, which you don't even see on the mini map. When I've died so far, enemies spanwing behind me were the reason.
And then there's the map, where you can never quite tell where the map ends and you'll run into poison, and where you haven't explored yet.
Hohum. I am not giving up yet, but so far it feels not very well designed.

If anything is spawning behind you, you should be getting audio cues to let you know.
It's one of the things it does best by alerting you to things with sound.

Started it last night, was surprised to hear even the starting world you go with is different for other players. I got the Bloodborne looking one. Solid so far, my primary issue is that there's a loooot of dialogue if you want to talk to characters and for one it's not presented very well. Camera is too far away to even see the NPC, you're locked in, there's no camera changes. And secondly it doesn't seem that particularly interesting. But so far, the shoot bang section are decent. Joined a random persons session in co op and had a blast as we were figuring out the progression through the dungeon and gaining access to the secrets, ending in a pretty creative boss

Yeah I've got the Bloodborne one as well, the poundland Yharnam. It's cool though. One side section i went in, everything was on fire. Very pretty.

Thanks, I’ll try to keep an, er, ear open, but when I already fight three mobs right in front of me, I am not sure I’ll hear them spawn behind me. :-(

Did a boss called nightweaver on my lunch break who was an A-Grade cunt. So much health on the 2nd difficulty, can't imagine what the 2 highest are like.

I found everything too spongy and I took too much damage on Veteran so I restarted on Survivor and am finding it much smoother progress and a lot more fun. I'm playing as a gunslinger to the slow fire rate and reload on the starter gun was a real pain in Veteran but everything basically takes one shot less on Survivor and that's making things a lot more fun.

I have the shotgun, it hits really hard but it's only 2 shot so doesn't really compliment the long gun very well.
Might grab the smg and give it a bash

Maybe I'm the idiot, but is there anywhere that shows icons and descriptions of status effects? Got a status icon about the size of a ladybug that I kind of deduced as being a health regen effect. I thought it would be in the Character tab on the pause menu but it wasn't. But then some bosses have modifier names underneath them which again I sort of had to deduce that one of them meant the boss healed health anytime I healed. It had a second name too, couldn't tell ya what it did.

The SMG is pretty good in there tbh, but the shotty is good too esp with the mutator from the guy in the home base that increaes damage by 10% after a reload.
I did it with the tommygun and the smg, I think you want either high burst damage or high RPM in there generally.

I have the smg but I don't have any scrap to upgrade it so it's a bit underpowered

Until now I've been built for fire damage quite heavily - an amulet that increases damage to enemies suffering status effects, a few rings generating extra mod power and the fire ring that boosts fire damage too. Helped a lot with just bursting the fuck out of the first phase at least.

I fought a big blob last night that fired out little sparkle blobs, above a pit full of smaller blobs.
Not going to lie. It wasn’t my best boss experience.

That blob boss is annoying, I fought it again in adventure mode with double health modifier as well.
What makes it better is realising you don't need to drop down to avoid its attacks.
