I’m finding the Umbral stuff all a bit of an unecessary faff. Can do without that and it’s randomly spawning enemies.

That's because there's nothing much to say in all honesty. For more detail though: Boss fights aren't anything harder than the rest of the game tbh. If you can get TO the boss, you have a fair chance of beating it. The first proper boss, Pieta, is a bit of a skill check, but apart from that I haven't found anything too difficult. I'm shit at bosses, and I die a lot, but you can get past them as - like I say - their movesets are clear, telegraphed, and just require learning and not fucking up. Pieta is also the worse because, until they roll out a patch or two, the frame rate seems to dip a bit in that fight. Not massively. We're not talking Quelaag on PS3 Dark Souls 1 here, but enough so you notice it, which may put you off. The long and short of it is that it's a souls-like, and it's probably placed right in the middle in terms of difficulty. It all depends on your tolerance for bosses these days. You may have had your fill, in which case this will probably only frustrate you.
The areas themselves are filled with mobs, even moreso in the Umbral world, and that might also frustrate you as well. It can feel a bit overwhelming at times but I'm actually loving that part of it.
Yeah on PS5. I haven't tried the summoning part yet so I don't know how well it works, but it looks like you can summon for bosses etc if you need to.
Sounds interesting, cheers for info. I might have to check it out. I probably need to get a job first though.

I don’t honestly know if you would have the patience for it man. I think, for you, it would incorporate the worst elements of the souls series. The elements that I overlook and even enjoy to a masochistic degree.
Not to derail the thread too much but how’s the job stuff going?

How bloody big is this game. Still going through Calrath. In the mines but I've also unlocked another way that seems to take me back into another part of the slums. The crazy thing is I seem to be no nearer any of the beacons. It's nuts.

Managed the 2nd boss but they really have made the first section a bit of a pain. All those ledges and stuff attacking you from all angles. Numerous times I have a swung at an enemy, they dodge, your lock-on moving as you try to land a blow and end up swinging off a precipice. Very unforgiving and those headbanging twats are a nightmare. The umbral stuff is a bit tedious, you really need to move quickly to find a vestige point before getting swarmed.
Will keep going for a bit, it's not a 2/5 game but maybe a 3/5 game so far.

I'm definitely going to play this but I think I will wait until early next year when it's had a few patches. Their games have a decent track record for appearaning on gamepass as well.

If it helps, you should be able to throw stuff, shoot from a bow, or a crossbow. Your range is even longer than theirs, so long as you take it slow, you should in theory be able to kill all of the lightning tossing cunts safely. It is a difficult area with those great hand banging nobs though.

I do feel that this is going to be another one of those funny games where I'll get a few sideways looks for professing how much I love it.

Well Pieta and the Sister down, that perch place is fucking hard.
Where do I find keys? Eg the Bridge one. Just a rough location would be handy, cheers.

Erm. Can't quite recall. Early on in Pilgrims Perch you want to be in Umbral and follow some paths under the bridge itself. It's there somewhere.

Will be on this later in. My Game Collection order arrived next day by Royal Mail; it’s like the old days.

Public Service Announcement
The best way to deal with the spiky headed fellas in Pilgrim's Perch is to Soul Flay them off the edge; one shot kill.

I keep forgetting about soulflay. Not been on this for a few days, probably won't be back on it for a while now due to other games.

They should have started in one realm, then given you the fancy lamp after the first boss or something. There’s too much info and moves to take in from the get go for me.

Twenty hours in and I’ve only just started using soulflay.

The master of hounds, it’s quite easy but I can’t do it. Those fucking hounds manage to hit me when I attack the boss. Get close all the time to no avail.

Took a break from the insanity of the Mines to take a proper crack at the area behind the locked door in Pilgrim's Perch, bloody hell. Managed to fight my way up to the top, got a vestige, killed a boss and now I have 3 possible routes available up there (all rock hard) plus two back in Sunless Skein.
Had to force myself to stop playing in the end, so good. Proper Soulsy.

Yeah man I’m up at some huge manse above the perch just now. I can either push through here, push into the depths, venture into upper calrath, go into some frozen place, or there’s another route I found as well. This doesn’t include all the extra little bits I’m discovering in previously explored areas including bosses and other shit. It’s dark souls x100. A week in and I still absolutely love it.
Also. Soul-flaying difficult enemies off ledges never gets old. “Oh you can heal yourself? Heal this!”

Erm. The mistress of hounds? Technically yes, but a looooong way after her. Quite a few areas.

Also the area behind the locked door is hard as nails, early game even a suicide run is almost impossible. Mind you up at the top you can get large upgrade stones, which is nice.
I have switched from Pieta's Sword, which is ace, and am now using a Fetid Axe in one hand for poison, and a Left Hand Sword of Stillness for freeze damage. I have a ring that adds bleed damage if you inflict poison, and another that increases damage for every status effect inflicted. It takes a few hits to get going, then you get a big burst of damage.

I wouldn't worry about it, I've lost way more than 4000. There's always more 😀

Gosh yes. I’ve lost a shit load.
If this game carries on the way it’s going as far as I’m concerned is going to be one of my GOATs. They’ve knocked it out the park. There’s just so much here, it’s staggering.

I wouldn't worry about it, I've lost way more than 4000. There's always more 😀 Well I killed the bloated poisonous bastard with the aid of a co op partner, I got lucky as they died but the boss decided to attack it all the time still. From a distance I fired arrow after arrow and then threw grenades at the bastard. It’s not easy figuring out how to equip greatness is it.
