Only played A Machine for Pigs by them but I liked the writing and story in that. Decent news (also thought it was dead)

It's nice that it isn't dead, but I'm still sceptical that it's going to be anything other than a complete mess.

At least it's sticking to the spirit of the original then

Well yeah, I suppose "hot mess" is pretty on brand for anything even remotely associated with Troika.

The change they've apparently made to the premise intrigues me. Playing as a thin-blood sounded like it was going to be bollocks, but now playing as a recently awoken Elder instead? That could be brilliant.

That could be brilliant. I think bollocks is a tad hyperbolic but the new, inexperienced unknown is very much the typical route one RPG archetype so it's nice that they're going a different route.

From memory the only way to be un-thinblooded is to commit diabolaire and murder and drink an elder vampires blood. Which generally makes people outsiders and wrong uns in Camarila society. So was a bit of an odd premise. If my WoD memory holds.

I thought (going by the first game) thin bloods were basically vampires that didn't turn right, were super weak and abandoned by their sires - thus knowing nothing of vampire society (and a sign of the end times and all that) I think, compared to the source material, the player character in Bloodlines was way OP Playing as a newly turned vampire worked perfectly for discovering all the lore and background of VtM though
Diabolaire is what LaCroix was after and he was already quite powerful

I’d love a What We Do In The Shadows game (Telltale style)…

The rules have changed somewhat since then I think. That was 3rd edition I think, and the tRPG is up to 5th. So they are super-weak and generally abandoned by their sire, also flat out banned from joining the Camarilla. But they're vampires of the 13th (maybe 15th, fucked if I can remember the number). And are stuck on weird thin-blood powers or lack of them. Can eat food, go out in daytime, can't use any powers. Only way to change that is to go to an older generation by full on diablerie which only the Sabbat do in theory.

Haven't they switched to a completely new version of it now? I wanted to read the VtM novels but I don't think I could find the final anthology anywhere so it seemed like a mistake to start something I couln't finish
Love the setting and lore

Diabolaire? Did they start changing terms at some point?
Anyway, it's nice that they gave it to an established studio this time. Unexpected, but they seem like a good fit. At least when it comes to doing good atmosphere and writing.
Wondering what's going to happen to "Still wakes the deep" though.

Spelling as I was doing it from memory. But yeah as of 5th Edition which I assume they use they've gone through several full Lore resets for new editions since the original game came out. I seem to remember they even maintained 2 entirely different editions at the same time which had entirely different back plots and mostly the same clans, but not actually the same clans. WoD is fucking weird sometimes. I’d love a What We Do In The Shadows game (Telltale style)… Weirdly after getting the new rulebook this was my only useful idea. As the thought of a bunch of 30+ year old men doing horny goth vampire roleplay un-ironically was just impossible.

The most important thing though. Has Gehenna happened yet? Playing Bloodlines it always seemed like something that would never happen. Or rather: Could never happen.
On the other hand they kind of did something like that with D&D with the Spellplague...

I'm pretty sure it did happen in the original novel series from what I remember reading and I believe Beckett was the last vampire to die

Redemption from lore perspective made you elder vampire It didn't mean anything as in modern world everyone was the same generation anyway but the concept was there. . But if you start as elder vampire in modern world i do not get how it can work in rpg game like that. You got to be severely weakened somehow at first.
None of the Chinese room games appeal to me. So do wonder how it will turn out.

My dream game at this point would be a CDPR VtM game. They're a perfect fit for each other
This sounds OK. It's early footage so no point thinking about it too much but the interactions seemed a bit lifeless to me

Yeah the facial animations and head movements seem lackluster. But what I like how the story is set up.

It's not like Bloodlines was all about the graphics. Or animations.

Weren't Bloodlines facial graphics and animations really good for the time?
Not that I'm all that bothered about graphics.

They were pretty good iirc.
But the main thing about that game was how differently all the clans played. That was a huge, huuuuuuge appeal to me, and if the sequel gets that right I don't really care how janky it looks.

It was the first third party game to use the Source engine (actually came out on the same day as Half Life 2). So, the facial animations were pretty good. Not quite as good as HL2, but in the same ballpark.

I only played through it once, so the different playing clans didn't really affect me. Though I liked the thought that it was there.
The atmosphere and freedom and 'deus-exness' of it was one major selling point, but I remember being really impressed by the talking heads.
I mean, Alyx was great in HL2, but this one had a lot more believable characters that you could talk to.

Yeah because it was Source the facial animations were really good. But the swinging a weapon animations? The walking animations? There was some hard jank in there. Then the actual resolution of textures and facial models were waaaay behind say Alyx or Barney in HL2.
