Can't find a thread for this and didn't know where to ask so just made one instead.
Erm. Is it good? It's on sale on PSN just now and quite fancy getting it for me and the boy to indulge our monster hunting old west fantasies as it inches closer to Halloween.
There's numerous versions with various amounts of DLC and curious to know if any of that is worth it as well.

I think it was bichii who said recently said she was addicted to it. Might be worth tagging her (idk how to do it on mobile) for an opinion on this

How much is it?
Just get the base version. The dlc are just extra hunters and skins etc.
It's amazing but pretty hardcore/unforgiving. You need good headphones to do well as a lot of your ability to win is based on sound and hearing what the other hunters are doing.
If it clicks it's one of the best PvP games I've ever played. So intense and when you win you know you've earned it. It's nice and creepy as well with a lot of pve fighting mixed in with the PvP.
Maybe watch some videos on it? Psychoghost on YouTube is one of the main people who upload content all the time.

Are the extra hunters worth it? I'm a bit sad in that respect that I like to have "complete" versions as much as possible, but if I'm genuinely not missing out then yeah, I may get the cheapest.
I shall have a look at that YT person thank you. Quite like a good hardcore experience. Last year around this time we were all about Dead by Daylight, but as he's been obsessed with westerns since playing Red Dead, this might be a good fit for this year.

Yeah, it's a great game but decent headphones are an absolute must. Didn't find it as fun playing solo but in teams of two or three it's incredible and there's little else like it. The tension is off the scale at times!
Play it on PC and it's full of players - not sure how many people are on the PS/Xbox versions.

Between consoles, not between PC and console players (thankfully).

Also jackfrags does videos occasionally that show the game quite well. (He is the main battlefield YouTuber but occasionally drops a hunt video to try and get everyone to play it).
Solo is still great fun but generally random team mates are helpful.
The tutorial is better than it used to be and there are now trials to do that helps you learn the ropes.
The dlc hunters look cool and some of them are a little harder to see due to their clothing but it's definitely not essential. There isn't any pay to win etc. The extra money you'd spend is just cool looking hunters and weapon skins.

It's pretty busy late afternoon and evenings. A.m. games can be pretty spare. (It's only 12 hunters max per game anyway). Generally you get in a game within 60 seconds on console. It gets busy during events and the next one starts 4th October.

Some rage inducing loses and some epic wins. Playing solo puts you with lower ranked players. Playing with a random is similar and if you are pre made in a party it puts you with higher ranked players who aren't pre made. It mostly works pretty well. I deffo do better solo then in a pre made with my son.

I did! Managed the tutorial last night. Me and the boy are going to try it when I get home later. Looking forward to getting destroyed. It’s a bit confusing so far but I’m sure it will become clear!

Get 3 clues to find out the boss location (Unless you stumble across the boss before that)
There's either one or two boss's per map which says in the top left.
On the map if there's two bosses there is a Roman numeral showing you in you are in the first boss or second boss area of the map.
ALWAYS bring a med kit and a knife or duster. (Duster is great for immotators which you'll soon discover you really don't want to stab or shoot)
Generally around the boss lair you can find a large melee weapon like a large axe or hammer. These let you almost silently kill them.
Burning will make you lose health bars (same for being killed and your team mate revives you) you can only get lost bars back by killing and banishing a boss.
People love to camp with shotguns in the boss lair. Use things like dynamite and other tricks etc to make them move.
When your hunter survives you get trait points to upgrade your hunter, some of which make you way more powerful.
So so many more things to say...but... I've probably said way too much already. Too much info. There's tonnes of great starter videos on YouTube if you both end up enjoying it.

Thanks that’s all very useful!
We had a couple of games. First game ended after three minutes when a burning skeleton ran at me from a barn, set me on fire and I ran towards my son who was stood beside an exploding barrel so… yeah.
Second we actually got to the boss and two hunters were in there. The boy headshot one but then things got a bit out of hand when the boss appeared and I got blasted in the back by another hunter.
It’s bloody good though.

I've wanted to play this since release but always bottled it, mostly due to lack of a co-op partner (I play a lot with my brother but in half hour bursts really these days), seeing a thread and the above messages, tempted to convince him to get it...

It's still fun solo and worth it if cheap. Also the ping system is good so you can play with randoms without talking to them.
Wunty, yeah the skeleton is the immolator I mentioned. Dusters or the butt of your rifle to its face. If you stab or shoot it then it explodes and burns away your health. You generally can't out run it either.
All enemies have audio clues that you get used to so most of the time if you're careful you can avoid them. If you see a pack of dogs you deffo want to try and go around them.
When near enemy hunters if they have good headphones they can hear you crouch walk, switching guns, charging up your melee attack etc. You can hear everything so sneaky boy that killed you from behind probably did so purely based on sound. Oh and certain types of ammo go through walls/objects (not brick or thick metal, mainly wood). If someone has a long ammo gun and they think they know where you are based on sound they can wall bang you. I got two kills yesterday shooting through wooden walls.
Oh the tutorial mentions it but it's really important to notice if the clue is red and making noise and if the boss icon is red when you get there. Both tell you a hunter is within 25m of you. So when fighting the boss keep checking dark sight ever 30 seconds or so to see if it has gone from white to red.

I noticed it's generally £10 for the disc (is it disc or disk!?) copy online. Or a cd keys type code is about £15. They want £35 on the Xbox and ps stores which is a bit of a piss take think.

Cool. Thanks! Yeah I’ll make sure I have some dusters for those chaps then, was a bit of an eye opener. I forgot that about the red clues. So all hunters have to go after the same set of clues? Could theoretically camp out near one then?
It was bloody tense. Reminded me of DayZ actually. You don’t know if you’re going to be taken out by an enemy or another human. I take it hunters generally kill on sight as opposed to trying to work together?
I also randomly have the hummed theme going round in my head today.

Re clues that just depends of how many. So there's a clue in every "compound". There are two clues in the big central ones like Lawson station and the prison etc. Then it just depends how the maps split. If it's only one boss everyone just goes for their clues and it narrows down the map or sometimes if players hear an explosion etc they will head to the compound they think it came from. Often if there's loads of noise and or explosions it can mean that is the boss lair and the team are trying to kill the boss quickly. When the map is split sometimes one area will only have 4 compound so finding the boss is much quicker but the same for the other players spawned that side. I've rarely found players camping clues but they do sometimes trap them so watch out for that. You can disarm them. If a clue has a hole in the middle it means a player has already been there and taken that clue and is potentially ahead of you. (You can still get that clue though). Very rarely people can work together but 999/1000 no. Twice lately when I'm solo and already killed some people and I get to the boss late and a solo has picked up the bounty I've got on the mic and offered them the chance to run away and extract or fight me. Both times they ran then messaged me after saying thanks . The intensity never goes away. After every fight I realise my heart is going way too fast. :/ I've turned off the music in the menu as it's too good and gets stuck in my head all day long. Soundtrack is on Spotify and it's decent. It's a made up band put together by members staff of crytek. Voice chat has to be activated with down on the d pad I think and it's proximity so occasionally when I have a cheap hunter I run around like a crazy asking them if they want me to blow up the boss for them etc.

Oh that's the other thing. how does the roster work etc? If you die does your hunter go for good? What happens to skins you own etc?

Your first 10 ish levels your hunter doesn't die. After that they are gone, all their traits and all weapons etc gone.
Any legendary hunters you unlock you have to buy again for $200 but they automatically come with 3 traits unlike the free hunters.
Under recruitment you'll always have a free hunter that comes with some cheap guns and items. At first you'll mostly use better guns by looting/stealing off dead players. Later you'll have looooads of cash and can bring hunters with all the Gucci weapons and bombs etc.
Also most towers you see have either ammo boxes or a gun in them. Also if you see a horse with a saddle etc on them there's usually a gun you can take and a pouch you can loot a consumables from.
You probably have already noticed but nothing auto reloads for you. So many times I'm caught out as I've changed guns quickly then after I forget to reload that first gun. Gets you killed.

One last thing. On the map there are random small images of carriages. There are totally random but are supply points. These restock your ammo, has a tool box to loot (bombs etc), and has health kits to heal up. Pretty important thing to know but also watch out for traps there is small penis people like to booby trap them.

Yes, yes it is. Have you two managed to kill/banish/extract yet? Ha. No. The closest we got was following three clues and waiting outside a huge barn in a cornfield where there was a giant spider. We were actually too scared to go in. I ended up climbing a tower and spying another hunter skulking nearby, so I took a shot at him and winged him. He slunk off and next thing I knew I was shot from somewhere else. So we legged it and spent the rest of the time inching closer through the corn, hearing other hunters nearby. With five minutes left we bottled it and legged it to the extraction, staying there til the last minute in case anyone else tried to extract. No one took down the boss so don't know where the rest went. Apparently there were another three solos and a group of three pissing about. That was too much tension for the boy who buggered off to play minecraft. I had a go myself. In a thunderstorm. Someone started banishing so I ran in that direction and once I got near fell into a trap that had been laid for me, and promptly got my head blown off.
I then went to play minecraft.
It's fucking amazing though, and I notice a PS5 version has just been announced for April next year, which is sweet.

Hahaha nice new player behaviours there . Yeah in April they are updating the engine so it won't even run on last gen after that. Try to avoid being so careful. You'll learn more from being more reckless and getting into those fights. Team of three? So you joining trio lobbies rather than duos??
