For the record, Harry Mack is fantastic. In my opinion. So, so fantastic, he has reminded me of why I fell in love with Hip-Hop in the first place. Only discovered him about 2 weeks ago and I have been going down a rabbit hole of all of his Omegle and Guerilla Bars series on YouTube. On top of all of his talent, he is someone that exudes positivity and creates joy. This video of a girl from Morocco, who must have felt like she won the lottery when she catches up with the dude that she created an Omegle account for. (Are we all fans? Or doe we all think he sucks and is overrated?)

I guess I assumed that everybody is familiar with Harry Mack. He is a freestyler that seems to have made his mark on Omegle. Essentially, he sits around on that platform and asks random people for three random words and then makes up a freestyle for them off the top of his head. All the time. He has gone from doing it on Omegle to doing it in public with random people. Here he is doing his thing as part of the promo for the last TMNT film
Here he is doing it on Omegle
And here he is doing it in public

I guess that's fair. If you don't like rap and Hip-Hop, you probably won't like Harry Mack. I'd still say, that even if not a fan of that genre, seeing a man who is able to take a random word and then off the cuff come up with insane metaphors, similes and analogies is quite insane and entertaining.
Or maybe not, I don't know.

There’s a guitarist called TheDooo who does similar on Omegle, they tell him a song and he’ll listen to it briefly before absolutely shredding his way through a rendition of it whether he’s heard it before or not

Just as niche

Personally speaking, I wouldn't put a man that plays guitar and can do a rendition of a song he hears once on the same pedestal as Harry Mack.
I'd call that niche. And I'd say that an act stopped being niche, once he has a big enough fanbase to support two American and two European tours.
But I get it, he is not for everyone. Is anybody at all impressed by this guy? Or do we all think it's just niche?

I’d put TheDooo on a way higher pedestal. Despite loving hip hop, guitar playing interests me a lot more than some dude spitting out a hundreds words over a generic beat

This one sticks in mind:

I've seen Harry Mack on Tik Tok, he's very good at what he does. I also like that guitar guy (although I'm suspicious that he didn't seem to immediately recognise Hit The Road Jack, and had to bring it up on his phone).

So I used to do a bit of MCing way back including some freestyling (back when it was actually freestyling). I think people don’t really understand how it’s done. It’s a bit like jazz. You learn all the scales and then that allows you to move between them freely. So you’re making it up as you go but still within learned patterns.
That’s pretty much exactly how freestyling works. When you practise enough eventually you learn certain structures and patterns, and then it becomes relatively easy to just add in random words and move in and out of learned and rehearsed rhymes.
Not that it’s easy. It takes a lot of practise and lots of mcs can’t do it. But it’s not as impressive as it looks. You’re not writing those rhymes off the top of your head. You can get pretty good at it fairly quickly if you practise.
That said Harry Mack is VERY good. He might be one of the best ever. Personally I don’t really enjoy his rapping style which is very conventional but that’s a taste thing.

I hear that. A self-taught guitarist, unfamiliar with that song? I guess anything is possible. I've seen a whole bunch of folk creating videos, suggesting that Harry Mack is also a fake. I feel that the sort of live scenarios that unfold would require an unwieldy amount of prep and actors. So many moving parts have to be in place, that it would just be easier to really freestyle than to pretend to be freestyling. hedben

That’s exactly the same way thedooo does the guitar stuff, you learn some music theory, pick out the chord progressions and then its relatively straightforward to shred your well rehearsed licks when going from one note to the next. Not that any of it’s easy but done well it’s very impressive, and you can even dance to it
everyone knows hit the road jack but you’d have to have a quick listen to know what key it’s in at the very least

Some are awesome, some less so. But what makes Harry Mack special to me is his continued output. I have sat through an unreal amount of his stuff and the only metaphor that seems to come up relatively regular is 'Nike Air/walking on clouds'. Beyond that, each Omegle and each Guerrilla Bars is completely unique in metaphors, similes, analogies, etc. What blows my mind is how he lays the groundwork for a double or triple entendre whilst he is rapping and then also remembering the words he was quoted. I take the point that practice makes perfect, but as a non-rapping rube, I'm still impressed.

Stop saying Omeagle!
(This is a very niche Second Captains Reference, also I had no idea what Omeagle was before it was mentioned 1000 times in about 10 seperate paragraphs of this thread)

Isn’t Omegle just Chatroulette? ie 99% dicks?

It apparently is. I'm surprised he is able to get so much content out of Omegle. I guess that's why that Moroccan girl in the first video was so moved when she finally saw the guy that she signed up for. "You cannot imagine how many dicks I saw before I met you!"

Was being slightly facetious, now I watch a vid, yep- have seen him on reddit walking down a line of people freestyling about what each person’s wearing etc. It’s certainly impressive and he’s got a positivity that’s a nice spin. He really should be called Giddy Scoundrel or something though if he ever wants to hit the big time.
