Infinite was the worst one for me too, I only completed it once and had no desire to run through it again
I remember 2 having better gameplay and more strategic ways to fight. Overall it wasn’t as good as 1 but it was very good all the same

I feel like Prey is the successor to them all. Definitely. Prey was great. For me, it was what Bioshock should have been. Hope that the new Ken Levin game takes inspiration from it. |

I don't even care. We're getting System Shock remake on consoles followed by a remaster of System Shock 2. Ken Levine can make a new version of Pong for all I care. The big boys are coming home.
Anyway. Which of you fuckers can I blame for making me just impulsively rebuy the Bioshock Collection on switch.

The Bioshock ports on Switch are very good. I played 3 on Xbox and my partner sat next to me playing it through on her Switch. Good times.

I like the OLED screen on the Switch. To me I can't tell the lower resolution, when everything pops so nicely on it. I bet Infinite's colour palette will look great on it.

I think 1 is the best, loved 2 as well.
Infinite, I can understand people disliking it for concentrating more on combat, but in terms of story, I think it's up there. The world building was amazing, the soundtrack alone was amazing and I think the relationship between Booker and Elizabeth was great, how it built throughout the game was a really good piece of storytelling.
I enjoyed all three as their own thing I guess.

For me it was the other way around. While I wasn't a fan of how restrictively the guns were handled, the combat was still some good fun. The story and its completely nonsensical dimension-hopping is where it lost me. Rapture was like some faraway place in a fantastic tale grounded in reality and isolated. On top of that it was already dead with only insane people around, so it was simply easier to sell than Columbia, which was kind of populated, but outside of the beginning it never manages to feel like it. Mostly it was just disconnected combat areas with some weird non-combat interludes thrown in where the game pretends that Columbia is still in good order when we as the player know that it is clearly not. As far as themes are concerned the whole slavery/racism angle does at one point get abandoned to the revolution as well as to the dimension-hopping. The lattter simply doesn't meaningfully interact with the former. It's difficult to take much of the story seriously with this much immersion-breaking stuff and so many overtly fantastic game elements as well as the schizophrenic nature of the story. I guess you could say that they pushed the game too far in the story department while failing to do so as far as the gameplay was concerned.
Edit: It's also that Rapture's fantasy is based on technology or at least the story pretends to it, but Columbia's fantasy is not even trying to pretend anymore. No technology, just "magic".

Finished this today, first game I've actually finished in months, possibly years, tbh I got a bit slogged down about 2/3 of the way in when I seemed to spend all my time looking for first aid kits and hacking was getting me down too, so thought sod this, managed to max my hacking plasmoids and switched down to easy and the game was a pleasure to play. Have started the second one but have also ordered RDR2 (for the second time) I'll see if I can get on with it this time but that's for another thread.

So just discovered the Bioshock Collection save glitch, all of the game saves for all three games (if you buy the Collection) are shared in quantity so if (like me), you had about 12 or so game saves for Bioshock (1) you'll not be able to save Bioshock 2 or 3 without deleting some of the redundant Bioshock 1 saves. I guess I only got about 20 mins into Bioshock 2 before discovering I couldn't save it so no biggy but a bit of a shit for anyone who merrily played for a few hours and then went to save.

I completed it again over the weekend. I can't for the fucking life of me get the 'Dealt with all the little sisters' achievement. It's just bugged. Ive been hopping between laptop and steam deck and I don't think the steamdeck registers them correctly. The Full upgrades and another didn't pop until I went back onto the PC and replayed that last 10 mins

Bioshock Infinite has medeocre gameplay. But it is saved by an excellent cast of characters and a completely mind blowing ending. It actually makes you want to play it for a second time as you pick up on stuff you didn't the first time round.
For the story alone, I adore the game.
