Oliveira Gaethje is so hard to call, could go either way depending on who has more success implementing their stand up plan.
I've been umming and ahhing about it all week. I was leaning towards Gaethje anyway but missing weight, vacating his belt, losing a big part of the purse has tipped my decision towards Gaethje.
Oliveira normally takes a while to get going but he always finds a way to survive the first round. Gaethje brings that bit more heat than Oliveira's recent opponents and his style is ideal for landing hard on Oliveira. I think Gaethje gets to work straight away and leg kicks him and tags him.
I don't feel comfortable at all betting against Oliveira when his stand up has proven resilient against similar level savages, and he made me money against Poirier. But I see Justin knocking him out in R2 or even R1.

Not looking forward to the Chandler Vs Ferguson fight. Tony has been on a bad run and I can't see it ending tonight. I really hope he wins but I think chandler wins via stoppage.

Really feel it's well past time for Tony to call it a day.
But that was a crazy kick. Less said about the women's fight the better.

Amazing card, they both almost lost that main event 3 times in the first round.
Rose and Carla should have their contracts terminated for that shit show.

Chandler is a really exciting fighter, that kick was so good.
Gaethje just doesn't have the ground defence to be champion and he relies on his stand up too much. It's great stand up but he'll always struggle against grapplers.

Yeah I do like watching Chandler. Never seen him in a boring fight. Tony did really well in that first rd. Much better than his past few fights anyway.

How about Oliveira. Always weathers the storm no matter how much or how hard he gets hit. Another early finish against another absolute savage. Mature high level skills, great team around him, great story. Shouldn't have doubted him.

Not sure he could afford to get hit like that by McGregor though, he wants that fight on the ground straight away.
I don't even rate him that highly any more but you can't allow yourself to get hit cleanly by him in the first round.

Almost certainly, I think.

Well, I didn't give Glover much of a chance against Jan, so I can't count him out anymore

Probably. But I dunno. I've been switching back and forth between them all week.
Glover has shown an annoying habit of finding a way to weather damage and hang on. Jiri keeps his hands low and has a free flow stand up, no plan, make it up as he goes on. Over confidence could be Jiri's undoing. Glover has boxing skills and while he's nowhere near Jiri's level of striking, Jiri's low guard and no real plan could prove to be a problem for him if Glover does avoid getting knocked out and holds on. I reckon that Jiri could end it though if he catches Glover with an elbow as Glover comes in to implement some grappling.
Jiri looked great in the weigh in yesterday, full of life and vitality.
Glover is a super experienced mma fighter though. I think he'll exploit the holes in Jiri's stand up, and he'll make use of Jiri's limbs on the ground.
What with this and Weili v JJ 2, it's a bad night for an accumulator bet.

Well, I didn't give Glover much of a chance against Jan, so I can't count him out anymore I don't want to take anything away from Glover's victory, but it looked to me like Jan lost that rather than Glover won it. It was like someone had just told Jan his dog died, he was lack luster. And when it went to the floor and Glover took his back, Jan's supposed high level Jiu Jitsu black belt defense was nowhere. He rolled over and Glover flattened him out easy.

Weili v JJ really could go either way, I scored the first fight for Weili but it was so close I totally understand anyone giving it to JJ.
I'm leaning towards Weili again for this though. I think JJ's best / only way to win is to stay on the outside and fight a technical fight and avoid Weili's strength, durability and Judo. But I think JJs ego will get the better of her and she'll want get close and clinch up, where to be fair she could land some elbows but Weili has advantages of strength and a broader skill set.
It's only 3 rounds as well, which I think goes in Weili's favour. And JJ has been out and her last fight was their last. Weili's been active.
It's another tough one though. If JJ respects and listens to her coaches, they'll be telling her to stay outside and out point Weili in a kickboxing fight for a decision, which she could do.

Valentina should win via execution. So if you like Jiri to beat Glover, William Hill are offering 10/3 on both Valentina and Jiri to win by KO/TKO/DQ/Sub.

He rolled over and Glover flattened him out easy. I do know what you mean, Jan did look off, I think he himself said he wasn't feeling it but you can only judge what you saw really. The threat of the takedown could have just made him more hesitant to throw, especially with power. I don't think Jiri will have that same hesitancy, but I'm not sure his ground game is really very strong either. Of course it could all end quickly given Jiri is faster and more explosive, but I just can't count out old man Glover now. I had JJ winning the first fight with Weili though it was very close. Been some time since I watched it, but I think she'll be happy to engage in clinch situations. The lack of activity is a point of worry

Fuck it. I can't decide. I've put a bet on Jiri to win in R3-4 (9/2) and also on Glover to win via Sub any round (7/2). If either bet wins I'm up.

Indeed it was. Sad to see JJ retire. It felt inevitable I guess but been a fan of hers since around the time she won the belt
Val/Santos was a weird one for me. Felt like Val didn't really get going and Santos kind of stopped going after the head clash. Much closer than expected though, you could score it either way. I guess strong offensive grappling is the chink in the armour considering the success Santos and Maia had now.

Yeah JJs been awesome. Always turns up and puts on a technical master class.
She's had a minor film career as well, has appeared in Polish gangster films by Patrick Vega (he's like the Polish Tarantino, but way more violent).
I guess she'd rather earn more money doing onlyfans rather than get her looks ruined by a Chinese tank.

Yeah the card was great. No massive names but solid matchups throughout. This weekends is similar, very interested in Arman/Gamrot

Just caught up. Somehow the main event felt like the least entertaining fight.

Pretty entertaining card last night although the main event was a bit of a snoozefest.
It’s starting to feel like Adesanya is at that stage of his career where he’s content to do just enough to win his fights while avoiding damage. Remind me a little of GSP towards the end of his reign. Unfortunately it’s pretty bland to watch.
Volkanovski is just too fast and technical for everyone in the division right now. Really interested to see how he might fare at LW.
The Lawler/Barbarena fight was epic!
