Gave it a go. Thought the combat was quite fun actually, even if the timing felt a bit off (might just be me), but some of the other aspects were pretty bland. Had no real interest in exploring the environments, linear as they are, and the writing is generic as can be.
Overall not bad, combat could carry it

To be fair, the more I played the more I did get in tune with it. Couldn't pinpoint exactly what felt off, didn't help my display had bad latency as is.

For me, Brian, it was the world traversal. Like I said earlier, your character seemed to be on it rather than in it. The combat I did, eventually, quite like but I fucking hated the jumping, swinging and falling off things.

People making a big deal about Yoko Taro saying he's quite jealous of Stellar Blade and that it's a better game than Automata as if we all havent got a playable version of the game in our hands where we can judge ourselves. Nier already felt fantastic from the get go albeit it's a different type of action game. The man was also in the same room as the SB director in an interview so he's hardly gonna say it's shite. The game is absolutely his aesthetics anyway. Naturally it's a better looking game but would Nier fans really care about that or is it more in the type of story that's told which SB seems pretty straightforward

Pre-load is up for UK people, should anyone want to pay in advance for the fun privilege of taking up hard drive space on something it won't even let you play yet.
I've not played the demo after defeating the boss, as I didn't want to get bored with it before the game actually came out. There is something about the feel of the combat I really like, though it'll take me many, many hours to get anywhere approaching good at it.

I enjoyed playing the demo and the extra boss, even though movement does feel a bit floaty and disconnected. I fear combat will tilt towards combo button presses, which my stupid mind forgets, but over the course of the demo I got used to it. Won't complain if they tighten it up a little... I won't be buying it on release because I've got more than enough newish games at the moment. However, if the general reception here warrants it, I'll keep an eye out for a sale down the line. As for the controversy around the character design and whatnot, I'm not too fussed about it to be honest; life's too short to be upset over trivial matters. As always, YMMV  |

Of course some neck beards will take this perfectly respectable score as an afront.
Might also get a few outlier high and low scores from people who are viewing this as some daft culture war thing.

I gave this a go, even trying the skin suit and I don't get the weird people getting excited about the character. Yes, she's unrealistically attractive and pretty much naked but the internet exists so I don't get it.
The game itself was fine but did the usual 10 minutes of handholding which is irritating, combat felt fine but nothing great.

Trying to make sense of anything spouted by self-appointed culture warriors is an exercise in futility - they've already declared Eve's character design to represent a victory in a war that no-one else is fighting!
Review-wise, I'm expecting this to come in somewhere between Ronin (76) and DragDog (86) at Metacritic.
Push Square will probably be a 9/10 outlier.

I'm sure reviews will be about 7-8/10. It will be passable. Might be a few 5-6/10s (EG might go with 2 stars) to drag it down a bit and the Internet will rage about that and accuse low reviews of having an agenda.
Fully expect the first week sales will be massive and some will hold it up as a victory against the woke mob. It will then disappear quickly from charts and no one will be talking about it in a couple months.
This, of course, is all assuming the game stays the same as it did in the demo and there aren't improvements made. Or the game dramatically improves after those opening moments.
