I could see that seeing as they want to be on everything and not have just Xbox. I guess that would track with the next Xbox being a licensed box for other manufacturers to make, so basically a fixed form PC to a degree.

Rumour mill is suggesting that they'll announce a handheld and shadow drop a first party title. The rumour mill always seems to conjure up the things everyone is dreaming about, so we are all perennially disappointed. That would be quite some showcase but I can't remember the last time that happened so I just don't think they exist any longer.

IF and a huge if there was an xbox handheld would you buy/at what price would you buy. I assume it would be digital only and not carts. I probably would at maybe £300 ?

Knowing MS it would be streaming only or some nonsense.

The shadow drop game is turning out to be Towerborne. Not something I'm remotely interested in tbh.

I have owned every iteration of Xbox, and every iteration of PlayStation up to 4, and every PS Handheld and a Switch. For me if they don’t offer exclusives for the handheld, I don’t take games out with me so it is a no brainer to simply not buy it and go upstairs to game in the spare room. I don’t think there will be any exclusives to handheld because that failed spectacularly with the Vita and doesn’t seem to be in the current climate what they are going for anyway, with everything on one system. The *only* possible advantage of a handheld to me would be if you could do web browsing on a similar sized screen to an iPad, and or for still being able to sit with family or with a record on idly playing something like a card game like that Belatro or whatever it’s called. That said, I would probably spend £300 just to have it and never use because I have that sickness.

It looks quite nice to me - very like Dragon’s Crown but with vertical scrolling parts - and a Disneyfied version of it.
In the two minutes since I posted my handheld thoughts I’ve considered it from the kid’s perspective and there’s a chance she could be quite interested in it to be fair. Might actually sit with us a time or two as well!

Towerborne is exactly the kind of game I love - anything along the Streets of Rage, Castle Crashers, Dragon's Crown etc. vibe is ace in my book.

If the handheld was priced sensibly and could play all the same games as the Series S, then I'd consider it. It's quite often that the living room TV is occupied and I fancy playing something, so I definitely think I'd get use out of it.
Not if it's a streaming thing, though; I don't see the point in that if your phone can do it.

I'd love for MS to actually do an old school Ubisoft and suprise with something amazing looking from nowhere.
That Rare RPG Everwild has seemingly been in the oven for half a decade, maybe we'll see that this year.
For all the developers they bought over the years, I just hope it's not COD, another Forza and Gears of War yet again

I've got the 32" neo g8 next to me when I'm in the living room so Mrs Hermit can watch all the bollocks she wants on the tv and I get to play xbox at the same time. Prefer it to the tv and I can see loads of details I previously missed now the screen is close enough.

As for the handheld, I don't really care or see the point. People already have options for that (Switch, Steam Deck/other PC handhelds). Not sure what MS could add

Microsoft could bring - - Bespoke version of windows / Xbox UI with direct access to the hardware to blow other windows based handhelds out of the water on performance/battery - Economies of scale and deep pockets to sell at a cheaper price / loss leader - Significant bargaining power with manufacturers/ chip suppliers could also drive price down/ get custom chips unavailable to competitors - Game pass means a ready to go library of games - Get a jump on Steam deck now that it is showing its age a bit and V2 has to be incoming

It's about time to think about upgrading my PC (it can't be upgraded to W11 and I think will struggle with Homeworld 3 good settings), so will be following this closely!

Prefer it to the tv and I can see loads of details I previously missed now the screen is close enough. Even if I wanted to do that - which I don't, for various reasons - there's nowhere else in the front room to put another screen. Which is why in these situations I usually go on my laptop, use xCloud on my phone, or on rare occasions pick up the Switch. But a handheld that would let me play Xbox games, carrying over my progress, but not rely on sometimes iffy streaming, would be ideal.

I think the handheld is going to be streaming device, I can't see them making series s in a handheld (unless its expensive)

The new PSP is said to be on par with the PS4. So maybe this goes for on par with Xbox One X?

I have my doubts because of how poorly the vita did. But I really enjoyed the PSP.

They’ve both got to try. The market is clearly there for it. But as folk here are saying, you need the software. Xbox has Gamepass, which would make Gamepass even better for myself. But Sony have struggled to translate their first party software to their portable consoles. Not to say they haven’t made excellent portable games, but it seems like nobody wants the cinematic style games they make on a portable device.
They need to be making more gamey-games. Stuff that’s easy to pick up, even if you’ve not played it in months.

Stuff like the new Astrobot! Yes! Even though it looked very Mario, that’s the kinda stuff that works.
