Oh dear.
I think I've spoiled things by jumping into Half Life: Alex too soon.
Most everything else pales in comparison.

I wholeheartedly agree. I blame Meta, they absolutely had to own the market by selling headsets at a loss, which is fine, the console makers do it too, but then they did fuck all with it. Just look at their top selling games in the app, so much stuff in there dates back to 2016. And they’ve just cancelled GTA VR too.

I have the PSVR2 adapter hooked up to my PC (4090+5800x3d) and it runs really well. As I don't have Bluetooth I bought the recommended TPLink adapter - that didn't work as my hand would get stuck mid air. Bought the Asus one and all is fine. Nice to get back into VR (CV1 is packed away). Haven't tried UEVR injector yet (a way to make pancake Unreal Engine games VR friendly) but have gone back to some of my library to see how different from the CV1 the PSVR2 is. It's a little sharper and not so much glare but I realise how great the CV1 was. Currently playing The Forest which is pretty intense - I haven't even delved into any caves just yet. Have modded Skyrim using Wabbajak and the FUS mod and that looks very nice (especially with DLAA activated). So much stuff to replay or just play (Moss 2 and Arizona Sunshine 2 are on my 'to buy' list as well as Bootstrap Island which looks fun). Anyone else hook up their PSVR2 to a PC?

I have it. Not had a huge amount of time with it, as I was away shortly after it arrived. Actually ordered on back order thinking it would be months, but got the dispatch notice a few hours later.
Had a couple of niggles setting it up. One of the controllers would instantly disconnect. Managed to sort that by turning the other one off and then getting the disconnecting one connected by itself. After they were both firmware updated, they would both stay connect at the same time. Other issue was getting stuck at one point in the setup process where it just said to have the headset and controllers within easy reach, with the proceed button greyed out. Reading online, seems this is some issue with SteamVR. Uninstalling and reinstalling seemed to sort this.
So, not completely smooth setup, but nothing that wasn't solvable. Some reviews have painted as a bit of a nightmare to get going, so fortunately avoided it being too bad. I've been using the Bluetooth on my motherboard, without any issues, so no extra dongle has been needed.
As I say, not used it too much, but had a round of Walkabout Minigolf and tried out the Alien Isolation mod for a little bit. Big upgrade on my Vive, with really crisp bright image and no screen door effect hat I can see. Also don't have the goggle vision that the Vive has, although the field of view could be a bit wider.
Looking forward to delving more into it. I'm using my brother's headset, so also have the offerings on the PS5 to play around with too

I wouldn't be a VR user without their model. I'm sure many others are in the same boat. Developers and games companies need a market before they'll commit. Even Valve haven't really bothered with software because their VR games are just to sell their VR headset. It is true that headset VR games do rather cap performance and we need PCVR to thrive as well but overall I think Meta have been a net benefit to the market.

Nice! Have you tried the Maestro demo? Really promising take on the slightly tired rhythm game and the full game is out soon.

I disagree, Reality Labs burned through 45 billion dollars in the last 4 years, but clearly that money isn’t going to game development. Becoming market leader and not pushing things forward is a net negative in my book. I boot up my Q3 about once a month to see what’s new, and without error, the most exciting thing is the firmware update.

Fair enough. 45 billion is a vast sum of money and must include a lot of wastage and I get why you'd want more for that outlay.
Still, I think they've grown the market by making affordable hardware. Look at the steam hardware survey which confirms about 65% of PCVR users are using Meta headsets. They've sold 25m odd headsets, mostly at prices significantly below alternatives. That's comparable numbers to the Series S & X.
There has to be a bit of 'if you build it they will come'. Microsoft has struggled to get actually interesting first party exclusives for Xbox despite spending vast sums on acquiring developers. Stuff like the Batman game is hopefully a sign that this is starting to happen to the Quest. 3.5yrs in development and is a Meta first party title. 8-12hrs of content. Not massively interesting to me personally, but it looks 'proper'.
Fundamentally just need more large studios in general to make games for Quest and PCVR but I'm not sure Meta is the biggest issue. Big game studios are just very risk averse.

Quest 3S announced and available for pre-order (shipping in a few weeks). Seems pretty good for the price but wait for the proper reviews to come in I guess.

Fresnel lenses though. I understand they have to cut costs somewhere but that is a real shame.

Hey, if you can run pcvr, maybe give the SubSide demo a go. store.steampowered.com/app/2550040/Subside/Not really a game, but just a really good looking diving experience with really intuitive controls. Really relaxing, and enjoyed my 30 minutes with it.

Ian Higton is being extremely positive about the new Quest3 Batman game over at EG.
Seems it was released early so reviews are coming fast.

Yeah, it dropped for me yesterday. It’s very good, and is actually a game rather than a fancy tech demo.

Bought Maestro, which is a rhythm game with very good hand tracking where you conduct an orchestra Really great idea, well implemented. What's there is great but it's maybe a bit short on content so hopefully they will expand the track listing with some post launch DLC.
Think it'll be a good 'try VR' game for the family at Christmas. Worth the £20 they are charging. There's a demo on the store too. DM me if you want a referral link for a discount.

Hope they don't screw it up as they did Walking Dead: Onslaught which looks good in the trailers!! NO THANK YOU. Sounds like a recipe for a panic attack. I guess the Youtube videos of people in headsets running into walls will be entertaining.
