Ah, I wondered if you mentioned that.
No, as we only had the 2, we just placed them in static positions.
If we had 4, we could have done it - one on my bass and one on the guitarist, but with only 2, we opted to capture the whole band as a priority

Spent hours yesterday putting all our stuff on YouTube. The albums and EPs we've done in the last couple of years. Not sure why! Did the same a few years ago, not sure why! We're in the middle of your two, sometimes heavy, sometimes punky. The missing link? www.youtube.com/channel/UCaLCaOPQ1CKvQpFqYNSOmggRecording our first full-length at the moment, maybe we'll actually do decent promo this time.

Maybe even YouTube thinks they're shit? Just checked and they seem to play okay now, maybe just a weird processing thing.
Good link! I'll pull my finger out my arse and try what it suggests.

Putting bass to one side for a minute, I also delve into synthesis. Anyone else? Some of the songs for the band, I use a bass synth (bass station 2), which is great fun, but for home experimentation, I have a Behringer deepmind 12 for basically any John Carpenter style synth stuff, and a komplete kontrol which is just fun for patches. I did have a korg minilogue too, but that's been snaffled by the band, so I hardly ever get to play on it now. But that doesn't matter, because I've recently been pissing about with a moog werkstatt - tiny little semi modular synth that you can connect controllers too, or whatever you like really. Add to that a moog mother 32 and now my tiny little mind is completely blown. I'm beginning to think I might need 3 phase electricity in my house Anyone else like to tinkle the ivories? Or patch leads and knobs at least?

I would like to, but I've never really dipped into it much. I need to get a bigger place sometime, my keyboard is hidden away. And modular synths just look so fun! But I need to sell some guitars if I want to do that kind of stuff

Yeah, I had to sell a bass (admittedly that I hardly use at all now) to get some cash for the moog stuff - but like you say, modular synth is just so much fun it should be illegal. It really is like a wormhole when you get into it - can lose hours to it! The guitarist in the band plays a synth in the band too on some tracks, so we're going to do a bit of a session and record it all on ableton. When we ever get round to doing it, that is I have to say though - the warnings are real - if you get *one* moog modular, you *will* get more. Slippery slope? It's more like sheet ice

The p bass I don't use. Still kept my sea foam green p bass to just have one around but the other one was just collecting dust. So I'm down to 6 now. Don't say traitor - it really hurt to do it

I'll bet it did. The synth sounds awesome though and as you say if it's just collecting dust there's no point!

True. Ita just really hard parting with them. I had to go up to it one last time and say goodbye. Felt awful!
But yes, in reality, it wasn't being used and it'll go to a home where its played at least now.
Christ, it's like saying goodbye to a child!
Not fucking selling any more.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Squier Classic Vibe jazz bass, to go with my Classic Vibe P bass. Played the jazz alongside a similarly priced Sterling Stingray at GAK at the weekend and preferred the jazz.

So I think my truss rod needs a tweak due to seasonal movements, the bass seems a bit buzzy recently. How likely am I to destroy it if I try to do it myself?

I wouldn't unless you're really confident tbh. I try to stay away from truss rod adjustments and put it in for a service instead.

It's not too bad if you *really take your time* adjusting the truss rod. First, if you hold it up to your eye horizontally and look down the neck, can you see if it's slightly bowed?
The thing is when you know what you need to do to it, you need to do very very small adjustments and then check it again, and then check the intonation after each tweak. If you Google it, you'll see what I mean

Hmm, looking at it I can't really see anything. Following a guide I found on the BB forums (hold down 1st and 12th fret and check gap at 7th) it seems pretty good. I guess my playing just got worse, great!
Still, I'm thinking about swapping my flats for round wounds so maybe I'll get the shop to do it and check the setup at the same time. Any recommendations for good strings?

Capo the first fret and press down with a finger at the fret where the neck joins the body - it’s usually around the 16th or 17th. Then have a little tap in the middle of the string between those points, there should be a very slight gap. If it’s touching the frets then you’ve possibly got a back bow and need to introduce some relief, if there’s a massive gap you might want to take some relief out/tighten the truss Rod (only 1/8th a turn at a time and let it settle for a few hours between tweaks).
there’s not really a lot to go wrong unless you really crank the fucker to oblivion

Generally you want to maximise the distance between the two frets you're holding down - should be able to manage the 1st fret with one hand and the 20th with the thumb of the other, then reach up to the 12th ish fret with that same hand.
Don't worry too much about adjusting the truss rod, I'm a big ole noob and I've done it loads on my bass and guitars. Just do about a quarter turn and test. If you're getting buzzing, that suggests you need to loosen it, so turn it anticlockwise - from the E towards the G (if you have a Fender-type truss rod thing in the headstock).

Ooh, daphne blue. One of my favourites!
They've both got pau ferro necks so unless something else is different between the two, then they should sound and feel the same.

I'm not explaining myself well I could buy either model off the internet, sight unseen, or I could buy the specific one I played in GAK - the actual pieces of wood I held, which played really nicely (and happens to be black). At this price point especially every bass varies - weight, finish, etc - so 'getting a good one' is the appeal of getting the black one from GAK. But maybe I'm overthinking it and should just get the prettier one

Well, at the end of the day, it's you that's playing it, and you that's looking at it, so you'll need to decide on that really. I mean, you could just buy both and have one as a back up, you know? No, actually, don't listen to me
