Another weekend and another tune. Battered this out in 3 hours yesterday (I get bored of it if I work on it too long): drive.google.com/file/d/1xjeyX6ZZcYEJuTyThr-nS7IQYmfkT0xT/view?usp=sharingIf anyone has a listen... How are my levels? I've kept exactly the same set up as the other one apart from having to do a wee EQ notch to get rid a weird wub noise that was building on the guitars at one point. Just wondered how the balance of everything was as I can't decide if I need less bass / more bass / drums / Vox etc. Mixing was / is never my strong point. Decided to do a wee bit of vocal harmony in the chorus as well for the lols as well as throwing in a Westlife "get up off the stool" key change at the end. Vocals, guitar and drums sound good. Bass sounds a bit heavy I reckon. What's it like if you tone the bass down a bit?

Sweet. Seemed a bit bassy. I’ll drop it down a few db. Thank you chief!

It's probably easier for me as it's the first time listening to it, so it stands out, whereas your ears have probably heard it loads. Fresh pair of ears!

fancy giving these Neural plug in amp things a go, never done anything digital before. Will this be another expensive rabbit hole? Trying to setup a basic home studio, so I'll be in the market for some of this stuff. I have a guitar and a midi controller, so I guess I need a USB interface and a mic for vocals and potentially other instruments. Also a bass, a new laptop and more screens, but they'll have to wait a while.

One tip on buying an audio interface. Buy one that has more inputs than you need. Sure, you think you'll only use 1 mic and 1 guitar now, but if you expand down the line, you'll have to get another audio interface or a mixer to accommodate it all which is unnecessary cash spent. Get one with at least another 4+ inputs

Yeah I did consider the 2i2, this one will see me for the time being while I get my head around it at least. Figure I’ll either be fine with this long term or discover I want 8 inputs at some point

I use a Roland Rubix with 2 inputs which I find is fine for my needs. I do have a small behringer mixer mind you that can I use if I need loads more for anything. My midi keyboard that I use for drums is USB, as is my electric kit. I then use one of the Roland inputs for Vox and just use the other one for guitars / bass and swap out as needed.

Yeah, it's also situational depending what you do.
I've got loads of synths, and most of them are stereo, so they take 2 inputs each. As I'm using about 15 inputs at the minute, I had to get an ADAT A/D converter on top of the interface to accommodate them all. I want them all synced too, so I have to use midi in ableton + a 12 port midi thru box. Lots of cables and lots of inputs, but that's stereo synths for you.
You could just use a 2 input audio interface, and then buy a mixer and just sling everything into that. The pros there is that all the EQ'ing can be done on the mixer before it even goes to the interface, which is cool. Plus you can use effect pedals on the sends on the mixer.
The massive con for me though with a mixer, is that I want to be able to have every single signal as a separate track in ableton. So Synth 1 (Left) is one track in ableton, Synth 1 (Right) is the second track in ableton, etc etc. Takes a while to set all this up, but when it's done, I have full control on track level to every single left and right, whereas if I send everything through a mixer, I'd just end up with Left and Right in ableton and everything would be on it, limiting how much I can edit.
But then if you just have a guitar and a mic, you don't need any of that bollocks.
But it's definitely worth thinking about what you might do down the line. Because, as we all know, every time we go into a music shop and see shiny shiny, we all know what happens there. Don't we, chaps?

You're all talking a different language!
I had to waste half an hour today, so I was browsing some shops and went into Cash Convertors because they had a load of guitars hanging up.
Walked out again pretty quickly, laughing my tits off. £899 for a non-descript Les Paul copy. Not one of the well known ones or anything, just "LtD" on the head. Their prices were incredible, was worth it just for the lols.

Funny you say that about 2nd hand shops - my mate runs one, and if I give him something to sell (Fairly high price), he also puts it in the shop as well as his online store. They always sell though, it's amazing.

It looked like firewood, tbh. I doubt it sounded very good.
I still didn't buy it, though.

Nice one! Sounds very professional! And also, "Every Death you take". I love the title Wunty, have you heard this? Totally missed this!!! A younger me would have fucking devoured this man. As it is all I can say it is awesome. I’ll definitely check out the album even though my days of listening to more extreme stuff regularly are possibly behind me. Cheers guys! Getting a bunch of positive feedback, so we're stoked. Been shooting for a video lately, so probably some more shameless self-promotion coming in a few weeks
