One of my worries about a Vlad as he gets older, what if he gets told he’s only got a few months left. He’s the kind of fucker that would go down in a blaze of nuclear glory

Not a problem. Whilst Russia keeps NATO busy, China invades Taiwan, trades with Russia. It will all work itself out.
Anyway, has anyone tried the two state solution in Ukraine? It worked well in Ireland and Palestine.

Nope. Stop Fucking around. Let's get Japan to open up an eastern front. Team America can help them out via Alaska. Team EUrope takes on the western front.
Yes I did mean to type Europe like that.

Could be worse, could be Boris Johns- Oh, wait. Yeh. The last four incumbents. Which one would you choose to face down Russia? Essentially pick your STD.

I don't see why he'd nuke anyone just yet. I mean we are essentially chucking Ukraine under the bus. Unless any of this spills out then it'll be contained to that region ruining both Ukraine and Russia, if however a nuke comes down on Kiev then we are all fucked but I doubt it would happen.

Very much doubt Russia would unleash a nuke so close to Russian soil, nuclear fallout is hardly the thing you wanna just deal with after the fact. The whole point of deterrence is to avoid the mutually assured destruction if nukes ever do get used i.e. 'Nuke me? I'll nuke you back ya bastard'. So yeh, very much doubt nukes would come into play, but can still resort to a conventional war which can still lead to much violence and many tragic avoidable deaths regardless.

Yeah nobody is going to use nukes. Putes is many things, but he's not an idiot.
Anyway, those tanks look like they'd be good at keeping the peace.

Random observation, but I do find it a little unusual that in the age of 24 hour rolling news and blanket social media, there's effectively been a war going on for the past 8 years where 14,000 have died, while the outside world has seen next to zero in terms of footage.
Aware there's been leaked videos in the past few day's but what prior to that? When there's been claims of genocide, killings and mass displacements of people, where's the actual footage of people being moved or forced to leave their homes? Even in the Ukraine where people seemingly are under bombardment daily, there seems to be nothing to show.
To be clear, Russia clearly created this mess. Ater years of manoeuvring, Putin now acting on his plan based on nothing more than anger and USSR branded rose tinted glasses I find vaugely terrifying.
The lack of footage just makes me wonder what the hell has actually been going on over there.

I mean, there's wars and rebellions and whatnot going on everywhere that we generally don't get much coverage of. More than 300,000 dead in Yemen from the civil war over the last decade. Myanmar is still fucked. French troops are withdrawing from Mali. There was a coup in Burkina Faso!
Which isn't to say that everyone should be paying attention to all of these things; there's only so many hours in a day. And maybe there's some shady goings on in Ukraine. But it's not particularly unusual that we don't hear about them.

It kind of is, bit instead of getting fired you actually get shot.
I feel the upping of the stakes would improve our version of the show as well.
No Simon, the product was awful and for that reason I'm going to kill you.

If the Ukranians are as tooled up as they are suggesting, and they put a stop to a tank invasion, would Putin be tempted to chuck in a battlefield nuke? Heavy losses would look really bad for him for his domestic audience. They don't like their boys coming home in bodybags. I know it's very unlikely and would not be a smart move, but what would we do in retaliation? I don't think he gets great advice...
I think he'll back down gradually...will annex the areas he's in now. Has to make it look like he's won to the folk back home.

God it was painful watching Truss on BBC Breakfast this morning. She was asked about Russian money in the Tory Party and you could tell that she hadn't been pre-programmed with a rebuttal. Her talking speed dropped to a crawl and you could see the cogs whirring in the background. It just needed the comedy machine working sound effect to make the picture complete. Something like this:

That would make him public enemy no 1 around the world. Even the Chinese wouldn't back him.

It's slightly hilarious that humanity has got itself to this point where a bunch of countries spaff money up the wall on something that's incredibly dangerous and nobody actually wants to use

Although it's pre- the collapse of the USSR it's still depressingly prescient. The mention of Afghanistan is now seen in a different light too.

The thing for me about Putin is he's already told us his long term plan is to recreate the USSR. And the thing about Russia is they will continue to push onward until met by a suitable level of resistance.
