See, all that says to me is "busy" and "full of people I have no interest in meeting".
I'd rather live comfortably, knowing I can survive doing 3 days a week if need be and have a garden to go out and have a tea, than feel pressured to constantly work to survive.

London is a great place to live when you're younger and thrive on the buzz of a big city. It's utter shite when you get older if you don't have huge amounts of disposable income, though. We just kept moving further and further out in rental properties (Woolwich by the end) before eventually giving up and buying in a commuter town and eventually finding local jobs instead.

Fair enough, and each to their own, but those things are possible in London too. It's a big city in the UK where rents and salaries are a fair bit higher. It's not a different country! I mean that does depend on your industry - for me it became financially unviable - but there are a whole host of reasons to live there if you've got a decent job.

It's been shite in lockdown. I've really missed restaurants/gigs, which are the main benefits (to me) of living here

Don't get me started. Although a lot of the stuff I've been to lately (well, over 2 years ago now but...) has been at the Kentish Town Forum, which is great if you get there early as there's a fenced spot higher than the main pit. It would take a comedic hat to block your view from there
Being tall could be worse - when I was young and pogoing I'd end up accidentally clobbering someone tall in the jaw with the top of my head quite often.

I miss London too. Whilst happy to have not paid for travel over the last 2 years, I am happy to be going back in 2 days a week most weeks.

What's the appeal? I briefly looked at London when I was out of uni. Did a few days work freelance and never again. Now I pay £360 a month mortgage for a 2 1/2 bed end terrace with garden and even then I'm looking to overpay and get it done as fast as poss. Depends a bit on your industry innit. Some jobs are less concentrated in London than others, but generally speaking employment opportunities are better. But I mean other than that? Well, there's living in a dynamic multicultural metropolis with loads going on, the best cultural amenities in the world, amazing breweries and beer scenes, loads and loads of music venues within 10 square miles no matter where you live, excellent connections to the rest of the country, subsidised public transport that runs frequently, much easier to keep in touch with people - everyone comes to London at some point, great restaurants, etc. Yeh, I miss living in London... No argument that London is awesome in many ways but what does "the best cultural amenities in the world" mean?

I once had an argument with a Greek girl I was chatting up. All was going swimmingly until she went off on one about the Elgin Marbles. I agreed with her wholeheartedly but pointed out that it was something that I had no say in or control over.

Mediterraneans are such fannies anyway, I worked with a Greek Cypriot guy once who got the hump because I told him I lived on Elgin Avenue

How culturally insensitive of you.
It was a shame as she was a very attractive young lady. Ah well.

I'd move out of London if there were the same jobs that paid as well for both of us, and had proper cities that are easy to navigate with easy public transport and cycling.
My cycle to work is 20 minutes, and we can afford a large house with a medium garden (London standards) in zone 2, and good schools nearby.
But to have proper outdoor space within 20 minutes (not a park) would be amazing.

So Biden announcing to other world leaders that the Russian invasion of Ukraine will be happening in the coming days. What a mess.

Putin is on a similar hiding to Boris. Dismal public approval ratings, so he goes to war. Make Mother Russia Strong Again

I can't lie, I'm morbidly fascinated to see what cyber warfare tactics will be deployed. I'm expecting entire networks to be taken out along with (dis/mis)information warfare we won't have seen at nearly this scale before.

Maybe we will see some photos ops of Boris riding bare chested on a horse, or wrestling a bear, like Putin. One can only dream.

Thanks for the mental image, technoish! (Nah, it's fine - I didn't want to sleep tonight anyway.)
