I think the Flash one in particular is a way of having a clean break from his stuff, the others such as Aquaman and Black Adam are completely separate too. I think technically all the movies are supposed to be in the same continuity, it's just very loose and doesn't reference itself much. They all have the same cast, and even when Superman appears but we don't see his face, he's in the Man of Steel suit. It's possible that The Flash is a reset button of sorts, mind, as it really looks as though Keaton will be the DCEU Batman going forward, seeing as he's in Batgirl. Incidentally, I do hope the HBO movies such as Batgirl and Black Canary get a theatrical release over here so I don't have to give money to Sky ...

I'm enjoying Peacemaker, but does anyone else think he talks too quickly to understand? He's got this Robert Downey Jr way of mumbling at a million miles a minute, and I'm finding it difficult to understand a lot of lines without subtitles.
Maybe this is just the way people talk now.

Ooh. Didn't know there was a Black Canary movie incoming. Level of excitement depends on how 'mature' they're making it. Haven't seen Birds of Prey yet, but just read a Black Canary graphic novel with my daughter. She has been pissed that the last 3 Harley Quinn projects have all been too adult for her to watch.. if Black Canary is as well then there will be grumps. I guess I could point her towards Arrow or Legends of Tomorrow.

Depends how old your daughter is. The Black Canary is pretty violent in Arrow, and the Canary in Legends of Tomorrow is... weird. It's a weird (and great) show.

I think the issue is that DC has done a bunch of really good Graphic Novels aimed at younger kids, plus stuff like DC Super Hero Girls aimed at younger kids. But once they actually get into the characters suddenly everything is r-rated.
I did watch the first few seasons of Arrow (started good, went slowly downhill) and the first one of LoT, but drifted away. I imagine they finally got around to turning the lawyer lady into Black Canary? They were hinting at it for long enough...

LoT has a pretty bad first season, but it gets a lot better after they embrace the insanity. As for Arrow, yes the lawyer lady goes down that path. Though it gets pretty complicated, and ties up with Flash too.

Think I gave up on GA after season 4.
Flash after season 2 same with LoT.
Has Flash ever managed to defeat anyone without the help from about 8 people via a earpiece?

I guess I could point her towards Arrow or Legends of Tomorrow. I don't know if the plan is for it to be R-rated but it's the same actor from Birds of Prey, and rumour is she's also in Batgirl. Hopefully we'll get to the Oracle/Canary/Huntress lineup from the comics before long. With you on the whole adult tone of the DC movies though. My kids - who are still quite young really - came to DC though the cartoons, but all the films are quite serious and grim. Even stuff like Wonder Woman and Shazam can be quite violent and scary compared to the MCU, and Harley is effectively an R-rated character now. It's one of the reasons I'm always annoyed by serious takes on Batman! Someone reboot the Adam West series! Please!

Batgirl looks promising, so I hope that's a bit more MCU level in terms of tone. Wonder Woman 1894 wasn't too bad actually, I was expecting it to be darker. It helps that WW herself basically spends a lot of the fight scenes trying to avoid seriously injuring her opponents. Though the (tame by adult standards) bedroom scene elicited a few 'eww gross!' comments The R-Rated Harley cartoon is great for me, but frustrating for kids.

Dark small scale film noir detective story. Sounds good to me. Looking forward to it. I'm slightly bored of all the constant imminent destruction of city /planet stuff.

By the sounds of it it does manage to mostly hold it together for the run time. It's relatively low key nature seems to work in its favour for that. If it was the usual full on bombastic shit, it would be exhausting. Still too long though.

The run time is ridiculous for a comic book movie.
That’s completely put me off seeing it in the theatre.

I'm not sure what the genre has to do with run time. Surely a good movie is a good movie irrespective of the subject matter?

it is an odd complaint to make in a thread about comic book movies. long films are long films. It's hard for any genre to keep interest at that length, but when they do, it's great.

Am I the only one who thinks the idea of The Riddler as a John Doe-style serial killer leaving creepy clues behind is totally first base and phenomenally uninteresting?
The fact that I'm sick to the hind teeth of "realistic" interpretations of Batman might be colouring my opinion however.

Talk is that they have found a realistic way or doing Mr. Freeze for the sequel. That would be n...ice!
Going to see it on Friday but despite the mostly terrific reviews I do not really have many adrenaline’s pumping for this. Might change later in the week.

I kind of like the idea of a film depicting batman as an actual détective for once so I'm into it. Looking forward to seeing this in the cinema.

Run time is massively putting me off. Looks to be 45-60 minutes too long. 20-30 mins I can handle (Dark Knight, No Way Home, any Tarantino) but a potential 2 hour plot stretched to 3 hours.
Either there's a fuck load they haven't revealed, such as Arkham/ another villain or it's bloated.
The gf wants to see it but I'm very much in wait for reviews and catch it on a quiet Saturday morning showing in a few weeks territory.

The Guardian review of "incredibly saggy last act and rubbish ending" is setting off my Wonder Woman / all DC movies alarm pretty strongly. We thought we had an interesting idea that maybe the system is bad in some way, oh no it was a CGI villain all along. Cool.

A Batman detective movie sounds interesting.
But a movie with lots of villains etc.. less so.
I was kinda hoping for a tightly focused indie batman.

I totally forgot about the long runtime when I booked tickets for the late show on wed. It’s going to run almost to 1am.
