Saw this last night - horrific. Reminds me of the Nutty Putty Cave story. the memory of which always haunts me when I have a bad hangover and gives me the fear.

That is horrific, but I'm having difficulty really visualising it. Sorry that sounds more grim than I intended. What I mean is, you'd think an indoor system would be relatively safe, and without knowing how the structure is set up it's a bit tricky to understand what happened. I guess that doesn't matter, really, given the outcome

Anecdotally it as that incident ath inspired one of the few short stories that I've ever had published. Caving just fucking terrifies me.
As to this, that's such a shame. Can't account for that rare freak accident that occurs sometimes, no matter how safe things may be.
People dying through getting trapped is the worst. There was a story a few years ago about a guy who dropped his phone inside a big fake dinosaur or soemthign, climbed in for it, got stuck and died in there. Weird.
it's like, if you're young and you get shown how you're going to die. "You're going to get stuck inside a plastic cave system meant for children." you would think that's impossible. Poor guy.

From the pics on the website it's a fiber-glass type set of tunnels, which you wouldn't think would have a big enough drop to cause 'crush injuries' leading to multiple organ failure. And you'd think anywhere inside the planned tunnels would be pretty accessible to get someone out. Pure speculation, but I wonder if he fell into the 'behind the scenes' structure.

Heart attack and then suffocated under his own weight is my theory.

I do feel bad imagining how the guy died, as that's the important thing, not the how.
But it's really hard not to. Maybe details were left vague out of respect but it just means I end up speculating.

We share terrors then, lovely. There was the guy at the cinema who dropped his phone and the powered sear crushed him to death.

To be fair, he shouldn't have been looking at his phone in the cinema.

It's fucking horrific actually. He's just attending a birthday party with his niece ffs. A few hours in an afternoon at an adventure centre. Ends up dead.
I'm overthinking this as usual now.

Crikey. My kids went to Ninja Warrior (based on the TV show) and were terrified. My daughter fell into a foam pit which was insufficiently filled so she sank to the bottom. My son and his friends had to hoik her out while the spotty 17 year old gawped at his phone. I thought they were exaggerating but perhaps not.

Has anyone else been following this Lucy Letby trial?

I only know basic details tbh. Whether she's guilty or not it seems she does have mental issues.

She does but I'm not sure what she's actually done and what's being painted to make it look that way. There's a big list of deaths that they are attributing to her but the more I read about it the more I get the impression of an over worked and understaffed facility that had an unusually high amount of critical care infants in a relatively short space of time. I'm also not quite sure if the mental stuff came first or whilst this was going on. There's no doubt looking at her scribblings that she convinced herself at one point, but whether that's an admission of guilt or not is impossible for me to figure out.
Just another desperately sad thing I'm thinking about now.

Yeah, I'm not convinced of her guilt either way. A note does not mean anything.
I think there's a good case that trials shouldn't be reported on until they're concluded. Reporters should be allowed to attend but the entire thing should be behind closed doors entirely until it's done.

Yeah, I can't read any of that. Both my kids were in NICU but the idea that someone working on a unit like that could harm them chills me to the bone.

I know what you mean, but on the other hand I find it very interesting to read about the trial as it goes on. The danger with that of course is everyone forming preconceptions and bias for or agaisnt the plaintiff, but I suppose a case like this could be deemed in the national interest due to it's scale and complexity.
I obviously feel terrible for the infants and the parents, but for some reason feel really bad for her as well. I'm just not convinced we're looking at a killer here.

In fact I think I will. I don't think there needs to be a discourse on it. I was just curious if anyone else was following it. Think it's the parent part of me that gets drawn to these cases.

I've been following a bit but seems very hard as a layman and when we only get snippets to really understand what's gone on. What is clear though is that if you are innocent and you're accused of having a hand in the death of 7 babies, if you didn't have mental health issues before you certainly will do afterwards.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-65466493 What a plonka, as a dad and not a fighter I wouldn't dream of going out and confronting a couple of drunks, sure we don't know the circumstances but presumably unless they were actually on his property or something then why would you?

Can't remember which thread the first part of this story was in, but here is the inevitable conclusion. The destination was never in doubt, it was just the route it would take that was open to debate.
