Do you not find her teeth weird?
And, yeah, by the end of the campaign, her incessant buffy dialogue gets fairly grating.

Has quite an unsettling grin in the first part of the game.

I'd rather have go at Halo 4's Cortana. (You know, in theory and all...) Only when she's HARDlight.

Just finished the campaign. Very underwhelming. Story is terrible. Repetitive and uninteresting. Spire levels are abysmal. May be the worst halo yet. Good Reviews are due to the golden triangle and nothing else. Very disappointing.

It never really changes. Exploration is pointless because of that. It's the biggest fault with the game - it's open world, without having any reason to be open world. Given that Ubisoft et al get criticised for stuffing every single nook and cranny with icons to clear, it seems devs dan't win. For my part, the exploration actually was quite rewarding. There are some fun Easter eggs in there (found a room containing a bunch of arcade machines), and also lots of little combat vignettes plastered around the place to come across. Little pockets of resistance. A propaganda tower. Whatevs. Given that the combat was the best thing about the game, more of that was OK. Plus some of the locales had some breathtaking views, and sometimes the HDR would really make it sing. Agree with this. The open world in this just enables a bit more freedom in strategic positioning when taking on the FOBs and outposts etc. Much prefer the way this has done it than Gears 5, which as has been said just uses the hub bits as a long-winded menu screen. I can't disagree with the complaints about the actual story missions, but I'm having so much fun in the open world encounters I don't really care. I think I'm near the end of the story, but I've done all the FOBs and outposts and have two high value targets left. That's been the game for me, and I've absolutely loved it. The combat is as good as anything I've played - certainly much prefer it to Returnal's, to take a recent example.

Finished the campaign last night and was quite underwelmed with the second part, the last stages of battle seemed to drag on without any real logic or momentum. Also, way too many reused assets.
Still, I booted up Halo 5 right after (having never played it before) and was surprised how much I disliked that one right away - so much worse in every possible way.
That golden triangle (plus that grappling hook!) and samey Bungie-era vibe may not be enough to make it GOTY material, but there's indeed a lot of 'pure gaming fun' in there. A solid 7/10 for me.

The combat is as good as anything I've played - certainly much prefer it to Returnal's, to take a recent example. I agree too. The combat just never got dull me - the moment-to-moment gameplay is by far the series's greatest strength. The golden Triangle apparently (I just had to look that up!). And I really enjoyed mopping up FOBs, HVTs, spartan cores / armour and those things you need to scan after I finished the main campaign. It was quite pleasant spending a couple of hours flying around in a Wasp, though I wish they weren't so damn fragile. Definitely looking forward to seeing how they build on it and giving legendary a go with my son when they add coop. Hopefully he'll carry me through... 8/10.

Agree. The story is rubbish but the gameplay is very good. So it’s easier to get away with just cruising around killing groups of baddies when it’s so enjoyable.
Some environment variation in future would be good, and I found the AI pretty tough at times even on normal .. that one grunt scream is awful .. you I know the one!

I think this just reinforces Halo's base mechanics. The combat stuff is still great but anything else either doesn't really seem to work or makes no discernable difference.

It is kind of true. Despite how bored of the actual corridor, room, corridor, room structure I got, actually clearing the rooms is still pretty fun.

Finished it. Kind of thought it was great in some ways. Very strong start, but after a couple of hours on Zeta Halo it was just go here do that rinse repeat. The story was ok but it was very forgettable and half the time I didn't really know why I was doing stuff. The ending section really really dragged. Still, you know, whatever, it was pretty good.

Didn't think I'd say this, but dreadful end game. Repetitive wank that actually makes me see the game for what it is. A poorly staged, poorly written and ultimately vapid exercise that trades too heavily in spinning out the same shit.

Any tips on stage 3 of the Escharum fight? It's not that hard, but a full clip of any gun appears to take about one pixel off his health bar, so I get bored and then killed in one hit.

I should probably just stop playing before the whole thing is soured for me.

Overall though a massive lack of invention and creativity in 'staging' the bosses. 'Hurt' them 2/3 times, with more difficult oppos turning up. Yawn. I know it is a gaming trope but it's one I'd like to think could be avoided or improved upon after this much dev-time.

Unfortunately I'm not sure there's much you're missing about him from memory. He's just an easy to escape but slow to kill bullet sponge.
That said I do remember finding certain big enemies incredibly sensitive to certain weapons. (Which I never like. a) It's just random trial-and-error to find the right one rather than any kind of meaningful tactics, and b) you never know when finding a particular bit of the game difficult whether you're doing something wrong or just need to try 20 different weapons to find the one that is disproportionately effective against that particular enemy. It's like setting bad laptimes in a racing game and not knowing whether you're doing something wrong or whether they've randomly made it so that blue cars go faster on that track and you're in a red car.)

Yeah I got him soon after, turns out he didn't like the shock rifle. Now struggling on phase 3 of the Harbinger fight, when a thousand enemies including one of those hammer cunts turn up.

He was horrific until I realised you can manipulate which door he's going to come out of, which means you can stick him with a shock grenade before he really gets running and then headshot with him a sniper rifle a few times while he's still stationary.
