West Ham fans are cunts up and down the country, week in, week out. Especially when it comes to singing songs about the holocaust/Jews. I know it's a minority, but it's a not insignificant one. Ah, my bad - had no idea of this, don't follow football as closely as I used to. So why come in here swinging then?

I don't get the reference. Character from Green Street. Which makes it even stranger considering its about West Ham hooligans. It’s a reference to an old Liverpool meme FFS.

West Ham fans were apparently dicks at our last game, singing they sent us down. When they didn't, Everton did.
I'm glad Moyes won the cup and to see a non oil money team win but their fans didn't help themselves.

It’s kind of amazing in a season where Arsenal could have won the league, Spurs had top four and Conte, and Chelsea spent the GDP of a small country, West Ham ended up having the best season of the London clubs.

Any trophy automatically trumps all else imo. I don't get why (some) people are sneering at it.

Got to say I was a bit skeptical of the Conference League when it started but I've really enjoyed the bits I've watched of it and enjoy how seriously the clubs in it actually take it.

The problem is the impact on the league. But it's the same as the EL and you should aspire to have a squad that can do both.

Obviously things have worked out, but a few different results and they could have been relegated and not won the cup, in which case the narrative would be how awful the ECL is.
Cups are Cups but there is a hierarchy. I’m not particularly proud of the League Cups we’ve won. They’re nothing in comparison to my memories of winning the FA Cup or Europa League.
But yeah obviously for a club like West Ham it’s a big deal and I think they’ve benefited from Roma and Mourinho winning it last year which gave it some credibility. If we’d won the first one I’ve no doubt the Mickey Mouse thing would have been a lot louder.

As with the Europa League it could really do with just being a straight knockout competition to shave off games for the teams. That being said I think West Ham just genuinely underachieved this year in the league with no real good excuse. They were god awful for a large period and had one of those seasons where they were fortunate enough that there were a few teams that were even more terrible than they were to save their skin.

There's def a hierarchy but I've loved every single trophy way more than top 4 finishes. Except perhaps the one in 2006. I suspect the bean counters think differently mind you.

I just see it as a replacement for the Cup Winners Cup (I know it isn't for the winners of a cup).
Anything you win by playing teams from other leagues is decent. Agree with others, straight knock out would be preferable.

We've mentioned it before. But the biggest issue with the Europa league is the 3rd place CL teams going into the knockout stages BS.
And yeah no need for the group stages for the Conference.

League Cup win definitely felt better than when we'd confirmed our CL place this season. That being said that could very easily just be a bit of privilege having been able to watch us play in the CL every season for about 25 years straight. It probably feels awesome if you make it in once in a blue moon.

It is quite funny seeing people who were barely born when we last visited the San Siro being all “we’re back!” like they’re some old timer reminiscing over the days when we’d win back to back FA Cups

Yep, the thing with trophies are they a moments. You remember the day, the goals and the feeling after. Top four or doing better than expected but not winning the league just doesn't have that same dopamine hit. Especially now that we aren't allowed to celebrate wining league games anymore. I do think a big factor in the Conference League being a (qualified) success is that reasonably historic and storied clubs who have dropped down the pecking order a bit have got to the final. Roma vs Feyenoord and West Ham vs Fiorentina feel like 'proper' European nights. Had it been an AZ vs Basel final, it wouldn't have had the same vibe. More Intertoto Cup than Cup Winner's Cup that.
