We are not far off PC cases being too small for these cards and needing a steel bar for that GPU sag.
Looks like they've binned the 70 series of cards with the 12gb version and it just doesn't look like great value for money when you compare the 3000 series.

My case might be too small. I only just squeezed my 3080 suprim in with about 8mm spare. Had to swap to a slimline fan on the front to get it in there

I'll stick to my laptop then. Every time I think "this is the year I build a new desktop," Jensen says "lolno."

Just reminiscing about when our VooDoo 1 card cost something like £79.99 in GAME, haha.
Actually thinking about it, even when I went crazy trying to do justice to Crysis in 2007 I think my 8800 GTX only cost something like £329'ish, that was the absolute bollocks back then.
Prices now though...

CNBC is on the office TV and they're talking about the new GPU announcements and nvidia's fallen stock market value. But also they're clowning them, calling nvidia a bit a cult (not entirely inaccurate) and clowning Jensen's motorcycle jackets.
Seems unprofessional for a financial network but I still giggled.

Remember that the 12gb 4080 is what was originally rumoured to be a 4070. It is a significantly less powerful card on top of the smaller frame buffer.

The AIB cards look like they need planning permission to install.

Ahahahahahaha those prices. Fucken hell. What cost of living crisis.
I paid an eye watering 650 for my 3080 and thought I was a fucking moron for doing so then.
Guess it might hold its value for longer with this price gouging.

£650 seems a great price for a 3080 in hindsight!
But yeah, I paid that too after paying like £450 for a Vega 64, and that seemed a lot at the time. Though being able to sell it for like £600 certainly took the edge off the 3080 price!
Now I'm wondering how much I'd get for my 3080, whether it'd be worth dropping a grand on a 4080 at 3440x1440...
Perhaps the sensible move here is to just skip a gen. But in 2 years time we'd get less for a 3080, so I guess the question is really what price you'd pay for ~double the performance for the next 2 years.
I'm tempted tbh

Skipping personally. 3080 is more than capable of driving my mahoosive monitor and those prices are royally taking the piss.

Thingis that Jensen's double the performance is based on DLSS 3 and I guess that's the reason why he didn't say anything else. Early opinions point to a fairly modest update for something so ludicrously expensive - partly due to TSMC .

Yeah, they always use that slick speak to make their cards look more impressive than they are. Like I remember in the PS4 days they'd talk about their cards having double a console's power, and the base of comparison they'd actually use was an Xbox 360. Often their refreshes really equate to a 10-15fps upgrade gen on gen.

They key thing is to completely ignore nvidias bullshit they announce on unveiling day and wait and see some proper testing.

Wonder if I could actually turn rtx on in dying light and still keep ultra wide high FPS?
I mean, it looks the bollocks but there was no way was I sticking with the drop from 100+FPS down to 30-50 for some fancy lighting

I mostly play Total Warhammer 3, so thought I'd benchmark it at super low res, try to see how much a new gpu could help by testing how cpu limited I am by my 5800X. Presumably quite limited, I thought. Well.
At 3440x1440, mostly ultra/high - Battle benchmark: 78.4 average fps Campaign: 64.8 fps
At 1024x768 and 50% res scale - a blurry mess - Battle: 201.7 fps Campaign: 151.9 fps
200 fps!! It's presumably not a perfect test, but does that not suggest that there's actually quite a lot of headroom here for more GPU power? Surprised how fast it can run tbh.
Obviously it runs really well and is above 60fps as it is, but still...

Definitely skipping. I doubt I'll upgrade until my current GPU packs up.
Have a 3070 and it plays everything I want more than adequately. Especially as I only have a 1080 monitor, I have no plans to get a 4k monitor and, as it's been mentioned in some of the 40 series press, definitely have no plans for 8k.
It also helps that most new games are frankly uninteresting wank so I'm not going to miss out on much, and I have a game backlog anyway.

Shit, my mobile 3070 crushes everything at 1440p. If the desktop GPUs were more reasonably priced, I'd look into maybe building a new PC, but when they're not much cheaper than my entire laptop, I think I can wait.

Even so, with my RX 480 approaching six and half years of use, I have almost no choice but to upgrade.
Not with a RTX 4000 though. That relatively old RX6700 is looking quite tempting at 400 euro, I must say... or hell, I could even settle for a basic RX 6600 for 300 euro. I'd still get twice the framerate and most likely steamroll anything on my 1080p60 monitor for a couple more years.
Given that my monitor is ultrawide, though, I could do with the extra power of the 6700, since the 6600 seems to have standard 1080p as its sweet spot, and 2560x1080 is one third more pixels.

Some of the stats they have released are 3 series cards with no dlss turned on versus the 4 series with dlss 3.0 on. They always pull shit like this, in reality in an equal test you will most likely see a 10-15% performance increase.

I’m close to pulling the trigger on the Samsung Neo G7 monitor at pretty much RRP. I need a new screen. That’s the one I’m lusting over. Help me!

Enjoy your new monitor. Yeah it's a lot of money but you will die one day and you can't take it with you. In fact you might be attacked by a gorilla tomorrow and die. There I helped.

No you should go. It's a nice day out and you will lose the tickets otherwise. You can't have fun days out when you are dead and you never know you might be attacked and killed by a gorilla tomorrow.
Look at me, still helping.
