Some of the stats they have released are 3 series cards with no dlss turned on versus the 4 series with dlss 3.0 on. They always pull shit like this, in reality in an equal test you will most likely see a 10-15% performance increase. I think it should be a fair bit better than that. Lovelace seems to hit far higher clocks than Ampere, so that alone should ensure a sizeable performance boost. The question is, how much extra power do those higher clocks need? I wonder if efficiency has improved in any considerable manner. And I guess we won't really know that until the midrange comes out, if it ever does. Nvidia talks as if Ampere itself were to become their midrange for the foreseeable future.

Digital Foundry put up a preview of their coverage today in more like-for-like scenarios (native vs. DLSS 2 vs. DLSS 3) and the numbers looked encouraging.
The phrase “one of the largest generational leaps” was uttered. I know DF can be a bit of a cheerleader for the industry but their claims are usually backed up. Shouldn’t be long now before we’re drowning in benchmarks.

I'm seriously toying with the idea of moving back to the red team whenever I upgrade my 3080. I'll probably get a few more years out of it first in fairness.
Between the pricing of the 4xxx series, the utter fucking lies of the 12GB "4080" and no more EVGA it's feeling hard to stay loyal.

Has anyone seen the size of a 4090? It's essentially PS5 sized and a 1200w PSU?!

Christ
No miniITX builds with those I guess
actually, I want to see Zotac tackle it. If I remember correctly, their 600 or 700 series were much smaller than the competition.

So we used to plug gpu’s into a motherboard, but if they keep it up we’ll be plugging a pc board into a gpu soon. Maybe PC’s will become consoles, one APU, and shared memory for the whole lot.

Yeah, Zotac have been my choice for smaller cards. Had a couple of different cards of theirs in a Node 304 when I wasn't sure if it was a NAS, a second gaming PC or both.
Somehow doubt I'd find a 4090 that fits that case now...

Yeah, absolutely no rush to replace my 3080. If anything I want to go for a smaller case (currently a meshify C), so I'll probably sit out this gen and look at Nvidia, Intel and AMD's options when the 5xxx series comes around.

I'm delaying my upgrade from a 1080p monitor so my 2060 super still plays nice with everything. Can still hook up my TV that's not far away for the Dlss boosted stuff.

Fighting the urge but I want a 4090FE.
I can't find any release time for the FE cards apart from some hearsay about what they did last time. Anybody have any update on 6am (US) and 2pm (UK) ?

I weep thinking about how expensive even the mainstream range is probably going to be.

The issue is price Vs performance. No point buying one of these if you don't have a high refresh rate 4k monitor and even then a lot of tests suffer from CPU bottleneck even on the latest releases.

Twice the performance of my 3080 for twice the price. Wonder if my 850 watt psu will manage it.

Derbauer's video had a graph of performance versus power limit and basically, unlike Ampere which was much more linear you can run it at about 70% power without much of a loss in performance and that'll save you about 100W. It falls off badly below 60% though.

Yeah that video was quite an eye opener.

It's tempting. Fucks sake.
Q: think a 5800X would be much of a bottleneck at 3440x1440/175hz?
If not, a 4090 would double the perf of my 3080 and basically max out my monitor's refresh rate. That's uncomfortably perfect. I have an 850w psu already.
I seemingly have a shitload of cpu headroom even in tw:w3...
