I think this would have been an easier sell, if we didn't have so much cross generation support. They should have bookended the PS4 and gone this is now exclusive to PS5. Then you can move onto PS5 Pro enhanced games. I've always been sold on exclusive games when I buy a console. This generation has been pretty crap for that. I truly think crossgen is here to stay and it will continue into ps6. The length games are taking to be made and the sheer cost involved practically demands it.

Hell, we'll probably still be seeing some PS4 versions when the PS6 is out.
Mine has arrived now and it's a very nice bit of kit, although quite a lot less sexy with the disc drive hanging off it like some sort of growth. Surprisingly light and small (especially the box it comes in compared to the launch model's massive beast of a box)
Could've sworn the old one still installed games off disc in rest mode, but this is just spinning down the disc even though I chose the environment destroying power settings. It would've been a much nicer experience overall if I'd just gone all digital, but a CD wallet full of games put a stop to that.

I think I would have possibly bitten if they didn't hammer us on the conversion rate. £540 is a much more acceptable price for me and I just can't support their decision to stitch Brits up compared to the US price. . It's slightly better in Euros but not too much.
I think you being able to buy one on launch day with no shortages tells you that they have got their pricing wrong.

I didn't get a PS4 Pro, so my main idea was getting into 4K gaming by getting a PS5. If I had a Pro perhaps I'd had waited? I don't know.. at the time I did have debates with my mate about whether I should get one, as there were no killer apps.

I had the 4 pro and never regretted it. It allowed me to donate my PS4 to a friend who couldn't afford one at the time as he was raising his son by himself.

It was never going to sell out on launch day regardless, unless they literally only made a handful.

A bit like the One X, I bought it in Europe so it was a silly price but I never regretted it because it was just on the cusp of my affordability justification.

Well it'll be interesting the stance on the Switch 2. We already know that it is backwards compatible, but no idea on performance increases (probably loading times a given with more POWER). The handful of first party games they have announced for Switch, is going to be cross gen, but are they day one?

I would imagine it's going to launch with a ton of first party games, it's been delayed specifically for that reason. They've even said so.

I hope it's not too many 1st party games, else it's going to be a very expensive launch day

Without knowing the price or anything besides the b/c thing really, I'm rather willing to part with my cash for a Switch 2 at launch. My only current reservation (unstable and terrible economic climate not-with-standing) is the possibility of a OLED revision down the line (similar to OG Switch and Steam Deck) which would stink (once bitten, twice shy, three times what? the charm?) even though both me and JuniorFE barely played in handheld mode (only during vacations)...

Edit: Unless they are a limited run that is (Super Mario 3D trilogy I'm looking at you)...

I wouldn't say barely... I've used it much more often that way in the past year, at least, between my COVID bouts and us going on more trips Plus I've got sort of an idea for when I do my treadmill sessions as well, although I'm not sure how well it's going to work...

...What game have I played on the Switch with motion controls... ever, let alone on a treadmill? The, like, two shrines in BotW where you used the controller's gyroscope?

Got mine setup and downloading games. It's a fair bit smaller than the base PS5 and lighter as well.

So, random question for PS5 Pro owners (which is definitely a lot smaller than the original machine, it looks like it's been on one hell of a diet over the last 4 years)... The initial set up of installing the extra M.2 drive and the disc drive took a bit longer than I anticipated so I have yet to try any games.
What TVs are you playing on? I've read gamers with older screens may not get the full benefit. Gamers such as me as I've got a 7 or 8 year old Panasonic TV (TX-40EX700B) which is 4K, allegedly has HDR although it's barely functional due to the limited brightness and the real lack of dimming, has never heard of VRR and the poor old thing does not do modern high frame rates.

Tbf that also applied to the OG ps5. It outputs exactly the same as the ps5 pro apart from 8k. If you had a shit tv for the ps5 it will be a shit tv for the pro. I'm a bit confused at what you're asking?

I didn't think it was too bad on the old TV but I am more aware with the new system that I may be missing out.

You'll still get the same HDR output as you would have for OG ps5, VRR existed for the OG ps5 too as did 120hz support. So basically you won't notice a difference apart from shiny graphics and better performance where applicable.

Yeah, recent 55" LG C3 purchase here and I'm very happy with it. Big improvement over the Samsung set I had before, which technically did HDR on paper, but it really didn't look like it whenever it activated.
VRR is great for smoothing out games that have dips below 60.
If you can spunk this kind of money on a PS5 Pro, you might as well do it in style and get a shiny TV too.
