Yeah I really like the idea of the circuit breakers. If I have an option of turning off the lights OR removing the oxygen, I choose lights every time. I hate rushing through and no oxygen would make anyone rush

So it looks like the mods over at Eurogamer have removed all my comments along with any others which critisised Edwin and his pathetic review of the game. I think I am done with Eurogamer, they are so out of touch when it comes to their reviews. I'm sure they do it on purpose just so they stand out from the crowd.
Anyway, hope you survived the night Quad.

That's absolutely pathetic. I've barely commented on there at all recently, but might do the same. What a sad little circle jerk.

Thought it was supposed to have ray tracing on console? Any comparison videos I can find the two modes look identical?
Not that I'm complaining, makes the decision a lot easier.

Squinting and trying to notice a difference has pretty much been my entire experience with the next gen wonders of ray tracing so far.

Squinting and trying to notice a difference has pretty much been my entire experience with the next gen wonders of ray tracing so far. When ray tracing is done properly you definitely notice the difference, stuff like Miles Morales and Metro Exodus with its RT GI.

While I'm never as blown away with it as I'm supposed to be I can always tell the difference, the two modes look literally identical in this from any of the videos I've watched.

The only time i noticed Ray Tracing was when the sparks hit the floor. In Ray Tracing mode there seems to be more light reflection in the floor surface. But thats it. Swictching between the two modes I was hard pushed to tell the difference.
I'm sure Digital Foundry will say otherwise, but my recommendation is to keep it in performance mode for the best experience.

I think the RT is just reflections.
Mine has downloaded, will try to get a bit done soon.

Sounds like the frame rate is unlocked if you have a VRR display in quality mode. Thought it looked more than 30 in the videos.

Squinting and trying to notice a difference has pretty much been my entire experience with the next gen wonders of ray tracing so far. Me too. Which surprises me, because I personally find natural lighting to be more important than high resolutions and ultra detailed textures to make a good-looking game. But ray tracing definitely doesn't seem to be worth the heavy compromises.

I'm not, but the RPS review and a couple of comments mention micro-stutters on PC. So, another release that is plagued by shader compilation problems.
I recall playing the original on PC and it was a bit of a rubbish port as well (I particularly remember the turreting asteroids bit being nearly impossible because of control issues and might have been where I gave up with it). Seems it has happened again.

Man, it really is dark. Kicks off immediately too - I always thought it would be a bit of a slow burn but within minutes the shit has hit the fan.

So it looks like the mods over at Eurogamer have removed all my comments along with any others which critisised Edwin and his pathetic review of the game. Hand on heart, I absolutely cannot see anything wrong with that review. 'They didnt change much and what they did change was not for the better' is a fair opinion.

The review on Eurogamer is actually reasonably positive I thought, besides the tonal change that the voiced protagonist gives it. It spends quite a bit time saying how good the atmosphere is and the sense of character given to the ship. The gameplay is mostly praised, although basically said to be not that different from the original.
I suspect if EG just stuck a recommended at the top most of complaints would go away. I don't think it would feel that out of place from what is written.

Hand on heart, I absolutely cannot see anything wrong with that review. 'They didnt change much and what they did change was not for the better' is a fair opinion. Fair enough. Reviews are subjective after all. He spent half the review though talking about how Isaac has a voice now and how it detracts from the experience (which in my view it really doesn't). He doesn't actually talk about the game mechanics at all. Sometimes I think he just likes to prove to people how intellectual he is rather than to actually inform people.
None of his reviews I find particularly helpful and he is always well off the mark compared with the general consensus. Because of this, to me it can come across as very click baity.

The comment system they use now lets any old shit rise to the top as there's no ability to downvote.

I didn't have a massive beef with the EG review, more that it seemed to focus on one thing to the detriment of other details. Apart from that I just did what I normally do with reviews and just give it a quick skim before moving on to others. Callisto Protocol proved amongst others that reviews very rarely affect my own experience anyway. I just read enough to know if the game is broken or not.

I don't think it would feel that out of place from what is written. It did seem fair. The game is technically better, as it should be after 15 years, but it lost a lot of what made the original special by giving him a voice and changing the animations. I dont think thats unreasonable. And Im not surprised they are just deleting comments. If it was written by Barry Random, I dont think people would care as much but Edwin has a rep now and gets blasted regardless, so is damned either way. Rogueys dislike for him was one of the most tedious things on the old forum.

That's absolutely pathetic. I've barely commented on there at all recently, but might do the same. What a sad little circle jerk. Does make me wonder how... polite his criticisms were. I posted some scores from other websites and also the metacritic average. I pointed out how Eurogamers reviews never seem to align with everyone else's and that I no longer trust Eurogamer reviews. That was about it.
I got accused by one member of being totally disrespectful to the reviewer Edwin. It seems there are a lot of people that agreed with me, although there were a fair number who didnt also.
The trouble when Edwin reviews something, you are never left with an impression of how well an game actually plays. His reviews frequently differ to the general consensus. They say that an opinion cannot be wrong, but in Edwins case I think it can be!
Anyway I have been temporarily banned from posting. Don't think I will be going back anyway if they try to stifle debate.
