It does very well at establishing a sense of place in the first few minutes.

You would not believe how long it took me and the Hail Mary BULLSHIT strategy I had to pull off to finally finish the HK-51 Companion quest in The Old Republic.

In spirit I guess it is, but the quest starts and finishes on a crashed transport ship on Belsavis. You get tasked with retrieving the cargo from the ship, which turns out to be a shedload of HK droids, but they are all so fucked up from the crash that you can't activate any until you go off on a scavenger hunt around the galaxy for droid parts, which included a uniquely creepy deserted ship called the Theoretika which had some great music and atmospheric design, but also sends you to dig up parts on various planets with an infuriatingly badly designed metal detector mechanic, one of which you need an alt character from the opposing faction to find and mail back to your other character.

By the time you return to the ship on Belsavis to reactivate HK-51 with the parts, you find that the ship has since been infested by various arseholes including a boss called The Lord Of Agony. Because the ship is classed as a not just Heroic, but Heroic +2 area, the enemies are massively overpowered to the point where one mob of them right at the beginning slaughtered me over and over again despite my being at the level cap with high level equipment and a maxed out healer companion, for a frustratingly long number of attempts, which is not helped by the fact the most recent big update seems to have nerfed how frequently your companions actually do heal you.

So last night, I decided to invest some time and effort in upgrading my equipment further, to the point where I was able to raise my damage output by over 5000 points and my survivability by almost as much. I still got killed on my first two attempts again, but on the third I just barely managed to do the first mob with a miniscule amount of my health bar left. When the second one appeared, I used a specific Smuggler ability to bypass them by literally rolling forward through an open elevator shaft and diving down to the next level, which I wasn't sure would work, but by fuck it did. The Lord Of Agony himself turned out to be a fucking walkover, which annoyed me because his underlings were all so much stronger than him.

I'm going to take 51 to the instance where you encounter HK-47 later to see if they have any dialogue with each other.
