I'm feeling the album for the features alone. Listened to it twice so far and really liking it. I want to say my favourite album of the year so far but then when I think about it this year I've mostly been listening to 'classic' stuff. Been through a bit of a 2pac renaissance at the moment (I was firmly a Biggie kid... like 7 year old me was really into the east/west coast beef. In my eyes at the time Biggie, Puffy and Mase were basically gods among men) and realised how much of his stuff I glossed over.
Been enjoying a lot of Bone Thugs n Harmony at the moment. Cross Roads was the first ever bit of music I bought as a kid and bought it on cassette. Must've been 5 or 6 at the time. I do think they're criminally underrated but then I also think the 90s was a hell of a time for hip hop groups. B-T-H, The Pharcyde, Naughty by Nature and Sounds of Mischief
Now we had Migos...

Shame its not BBQ weather, this would be the perfect soundtrack/The soundtrack for a bar that sells expensive gin cocktails to middle class white people (delete as appropriate)

Been listening to Aquemini a lot recently. Such a timeless album, the production is flawless.

I'd loosely call this hip hop. Went to the album launch party last night and it's a great album. Mainly 80s synth beats.
Casisdead - famous last words.

Not really feeling it - big fan of Raekwon and was only listening to OB4CL2 the other day. I'll give it a bit more time.

Ah yeah I love that one, gets regular listens on spotify. This is good too. soundcloud.com/jperiod/rageisback"J.PERIOD presents #RAGEISBACK, the official music companion to the acclaimed new novel, Rage Is Back, by best-selling author Adam Mansbach. Paying tribute to hip hop culture and its birthplace, New York City, #RAGEISBACK brings together an all-star cast of icons & rising stars for a first-of-its-kind hip hop storybook in the spirit of classic book-and-record sets." (I have not read the book. I might one day)

What's everyone's album of the year?
For me it is between Killer Mike: Michael and KRS-One: ImAMCRu12

Billy Woods - Maps by some distance for me. Stunning wordplay at times.
Noname's Sundial and Veeze's Ganger are second and third respectively.

I need to listen to and then you pray for me more to decide but I really liked that. I really liked killer mikes album but didn't go back to it after listening to it quite a bit around release.

If I had to pick one it’s probably the McKinley Dixon one but Maps and JPEGMAFIA probably got the most listens.

I've got to be honest, first listen of that Maps album and it's not working for me. He sort of reminds me of Jay Electronica but I just there is something about his flow I dislike. I was enjoying it up until track 8 (Year Zero) then the album went a bit left for me
I've got to drive a hour an a half tomorrow so may give it another go.

I love this new Cappo tune. Both the flow, lyrics, beats, and overall sentiment

Maps and JPEGMAFIA probably got the most listens. Is that because it's really hard to make out what they're actually saying most of the time? I get that JPEGMAFIA's production style is meant to be overblown, but a lot of the time it just feels like the duo's rapping is taking a backseat to just noise, and Danny Brown's high pitched style doesn't come across that well. It's certainly compelling and has its moments but I can't decide if it's actually good, having listened to it loads of times. Also been listening to Quantara - somehow I missed Danny Brown had released two albums last year - and that seems more my style and way less zanier overall than his previous albums.

Why oh why don't I listen to her more. She is AMAZING. Top 3 UK for me but Vs others I have minimal listening to time. Had her on play the past two hours whilst doing jobs and it's so nice to see Vs the usual female rappers I get force fed.

Top Boy kind of ruined her for me a bit. I found Shelley such a dull annoying character and now all I can her being boring. But yeah she’s a huge talent.
