Looks fine... I mean after all this time and money you'd think it'd be better than fine. Or they'd at least get the motion capture on Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Strong to not look dead behind the eyes (considering Cyberpunk came out how many years ago now?). The actors have also got that bored as fuck vibe to their delivery.
And why the fuck is their an FPS crammed in there? Someone just make FreeSpace 3 already!

Are you trying to infringe the right of Star Citizen players to bear arms? I'm going to call the NRA on you. Or was it NBA? The one with no balls, not the one with balls.

It just has so many clashing things all united in one game. You got fantasy tech like the grav gun from HL2, but you're also still lobbing grenades like they did in WW1. You have sophisticated holo projectors, but they are used to write emails. You have advanced spaceships everywhere, but people are still manually pushing around anti-grav wheelbarrows.
The more they try to add realistic stuff, the more you notice how ridiculous their idea of the future is and how the whole mix of things just doesn't fit together at all.

I don't think it bodes very well that the frame rate is fucking woeful, even in their curated trailer.
From the video though, it is how I imagined starfield was going to be before expectations were tempered.

Still can't see Squadron 42 releasing before 2026 if at all. Was there any talk of when it was going to be ready? This is just another attempt of getting some more money in, I just don't trust anything that these guys say.
I would like to be proved wrong as it looks a game I would absolutely love.

It's impressive, but I did ask myself whether a space game engine really needs dynamic sweat and tears. Are they ever going to make a game or are they just going to crank out tech demos as long as the money is flowing? With what it has cost to make this video, other studios have released complete games. Also, based on their track record, they should probably have titled the video "The FAR Future of Gaming".
Oh, I almost forgot to mention my favourite thing in this video: the space turnip fields.

It being the future of gaming is the problem
The other problem is that if there wasn't text on the screen telling me why all these things are really impressive and I was just playing a game, I probably wouldn't really care
They can't future proof it, so whenever (if) they do release it, it'll start to age anyway. Graphic engine tech doesn't stay impressive for long - it's constantly evolving
The only thing that's immediately appreciable about that is the lack of any loading screens but I even had to think about that

Graphic engine tech doesn't stay impressive for long - it's constantly evolving The only thing that's immediately appreciable about that is the lack of any loading screens but I even had to think about that One of my favourite anecdotes is about the iPhone, there's something like 6-7 really crucial technologies that were developed by the public sector that ended up in the iPhone. The genius of Steve Jobs/Apple was to take these technologies and produce the iPhone. So Star Citizen is essentially crowdfunded? So I wonder how else they are monetising the tech? Is the plan to create an engine that can be monetised? Are they already selling various engine IP to other developers? So the crowdsource is not for a final product (though that's the promise), the crowdsource is actually funding the monetisation of graphics development, with Star Citizen being the tech demo. Just a thought.

The crowded sourcing is for a man who is incredibly famous for not being able to work to deadlines and has a massive issue with never ending feature creep. I don't think it's as deep as you think it is.
Also Steve Jobs actually, you know, released things.

The engine is a barely functioning version of CryEngine modified over the last decade by people with no idea what they were aiming to accomplish, nobody is going to be licensing it.

I should have caveated that with, maybe the ambition to achieve those things. Totally not discounting sheer incompetence as well.

Again, the crowdfunding is just because he doesn't have to have anyone to tell him "no". Sure there's an ambition in trying to make the ultimate space SIM but I don't think it goes any further than that.

Again the continuity clashes, you have advanced holodisplays everywhere in the world, but still primitive glowing iron sights on the "space guns". They have physics-defying tech in spaceships and even the god damn crate hauling devices, but the guns recoil like a god damn Mossberg 500 loaded with 2 3/4 inch shells. Their idea of space guns is basically current tech with sci-fi skins.
Yeah, I know, it's a game, and it has to be relatable. But it's just so, so lazy. They want to be visionaries, but their vision is basically Top Gun + Call of Duty in a sci-fi aesthetic. And this costs hundreds of millions of dollars?

It only took Activision one year to do Top Gun + Call of Duty. It was called Infinite Warfare.

It's still baffling that anytime they show anything it comes across as a tech demo. As it's just people talking about reload mechanics... yknow rather than fun inspirational things that might excite you.

I miss how the internet, and the omnipresent Joe blobers, would react every time an article would appear anywhere about this game.

Impressive range of customisation. Like the hair physics, plus the way you can set the level of dye in it. Eyebrows still a bit dodgy looking.

Seems super important for a space flight sim. Hey, maybe no one can hear you scream in space, but at least they can all see that you look **fabulous**

Imagine being one of the people who contributed to the now $700 million raised by this, and then getting yourself banned before it's even been released.

The game that keeps on not giving.. 2 shits about the backers. If this is not on noclip soon I'd be surprised. There may be some good parts to what they are doing but it also still looks like a shell of a game.

It’s frustrating because in theory it’s exactly the kind of game I’d want to play, but I have no idea how much of game there is, how broken it is, and how unoptimised it is. I’m just waiting for someone to say the single player bit is done and it’s alright.
