Should've been more specific - don't associate GameCentral's quality of writing (or more specifically, David Jenkins' quality of writing) in with the Mail's general writing 'quality'. Poles apart imo.

Must admit I haven't read GameCentral/Metro for donkeys, but seem to remember they always used to be pretty strict on scoring (average is 50% rather than this 80% bollocks) and a review covered the game rather than some reviewer's whimsy.

You mean you don't like it when a reviewer starts waxing about poetry when reviewing a FPS or talking about how they went on a couch to 5k run???

Wasn't the original Xbox One X version either 4K30 or 1080p60? It was dynamic 4K60. Could drop to 1080, sure, but could also rise to 60. On One X. On Series X, it’s been updated to while there is still a toggle, both just do native 4K60 at all times. This could be one of those cases like Cyberpunk, where there was a noticeable increase improvement post-patch on PS5, but that Series X gets a drop in resolution for some minor upgrades.

Always seemed like joyless cunts who desperately look for a reason to dislike something rather than trying to enjoy it to me. Although you could say that about most of the internet so I can see why they might be held on high regard.

They're effusive as anyone when they enjoy a game - they just don't wet their pants at every AAA exclusive like most other sites do (Ragnorok, Skyward Sword being prime examples).

Ha definitely him, also Donlan and another reviewer for PC Gamer back in the day, I can't remember his name I know he made a mildly successful indie game after leaving. He reviewed the original Modern Warfare and when I say 'review' he just spent 3 pages of the magazine writing a fake news report about a fake war in the Middle East.

The Metro "review" is complaining about massive visual glitches and game-breaking bugs like quests not triggering or completing properly, not the quality of the game itself. I don't think it's anything to do with trying to go against the status quo to win internet points.

53GB 'update' on the series X for info. Yeah it’s going to be the whole game anew. had a tiny crack appear in my face when 14th December somehow turned into 15th December for the patch. Maybe it means the stuttering issue will be addressed. Ha ha joking.

50.81GB download on PS5, I think it was. But it asked for something like 83GB free, so not sure if that’s the typical Sony (almost) double the required space to install, or if that’s the final size when decompressed.

Fuck this game’s fucking good. Sounds like they may have reworked the audio for the Sony 3D headset.
RT mode is broken, unplayable. Walked out onto the balcony immediately and the mountains were all popping like crazy. Switched to performance mode and was instantly fixed.

Ha yeah. Looks like the metro article was at least partly right. My mountains were going nuts.
It didn’t find my ps4 save so I’ve left it downloading on the ps4 today. Hoping I’ll be able to enable cross progression from there like I just have on the ps5 version and eventually access my saves. If not then… I’m not sure I’ll bother with it tbh. Too many other things to play.

I was considering picking up where I left off on Blood and Wine, but I’ve started a new Dragon Age Inquisition playthrough and I’m more excited to return to that, tbh. 👀 Really wish that a current gen upgrade, or at least a PS4 Pro enhancement.
Also picked up Crisis Core, so I don’t have a lot of time for Witcher 3 either.

It looks and sounds spectacular in performance mode so I’m happy.

Not tested but looked it up as same thing happened to me despite the old saves being on the ps5.

Copy/paste from a reddit thread....
If the PS Store search only shows you the PS4 version that's currently 40% off and you already own it, click the (...) button and choose the "Complete Edition" which will pop up with PS4/PS5 labelled version.
Click Download and it prompts you to confirm you want to download PS5 version. 50.619 GB download.

The new textures combine with the new camera angle to really redefine the look of the game. I’ve toggled combat and horseback riding to be in the original camera distance though after getting nailed in the very first fight. Close up camera in “exploration” mode though and just hanging out in that inn early in the game was such a visual jump.
I played maybe a dozen hours of the game not too long back on PS5 so I can see the upgrades pretty clearly.

I left off doing the DLC and mopping up a few quests when they announced this version ages ago, so hoping I can get it working. I'm not starting again so my continued playing very much hinges on it (I know I can do the DLC as standalone with a levelled Geralt but I don't want to - spent hours building my character etc so it's this or nowt). Just as well I still have the PS4 (relatively) handy.
Edit: Of course, I didn't have to dig out my PS4 did I. I presumably could have just made sure to download the PS4 version on the PS5 as well, update that, then do the thing. Stupid morning brain. Meh. Still a fuck about though innit.

It's a massive a ballache and I still havnt got it to work. Can't load PS4 save in PS4 version as apparently I dont have the DLC installed even though I do.
Jealous of you not having played the DLC though, absolute bangers.
I have a feeling PS5 version is on internal storage and PS4 is on m.2, probably the reason.

I bought / installed the Witcher 3 Game of the Year Ed. on Xbox yesterday afternoon (for £2... get in) expecting there to be a next gen patch to install today.
Instead, it seems like the 50GB odd install yesterday afternoon WAS the next gen version, as the Series X has been completely off all evening / night, until now. I could have been playing it last night, grrr.
I can't verify if this next gen "patch" is an actual patch, or a completely new version of the game that must be installed from scratch.

The next gen update on Xbox didn't happen until midnight last night. The game tile icon should have a "X/S" logo if it's updated.

darkling - there should definitely be a patch for it. The tile for the game should presumably have the SX logo on it if it's been updated.

Yeah could be the storage thing but fuck knows. Let me know if you manage to get it sorted. I'm hoping that when I go home this evening I can just do a Bob's your uncle with the saves on PS4 and that will be that, but I'm not holding my breath.
The more I think on it the more I would like to play it so I'll be quite disappointed if it doesn't. I bloody loved the main game but not enough to start from scratch. The thought of doing all the Novigrad bit again for example...

Yeah, saw those names last week and wondered that. The fact that they're publishing the names makes you think they won't get stiffed.
