Get a cheap used copy then. Why pay full price when you can be a cheap bastard?

Especially porn.
@spookyxelectric
I'm either gonna wait for the eventual PS5 physical release, or give up altogether.

That said, I really don't want to urinate all over anyone else's freshly-lit fireworks - yes, I'm disappointed for myself, but for all my fellow Font Geeks who're pleased by this news and looking forward to revisiting the Continent over Xmas, I'm psyched for you. Honestly.

Uly it’s been pretty much a fiver in the psn sales. Just buy it you maniac and I’ll fucking make you a disc and case out of an old cereal box and post it to you. I’ll even ask and see if decks can draw the cover.

Haven’t played any of the DLC yet, so that’s lined up quite nicely as a shiny new Xmas game.

Will the next gen update be on the steam deck? I literally won't play it unless it's 4k 60fps in my hands.

Looking forward to this. I’ve owned a PS4 boxed copy for years and never played it. Partly that was just Backlog but for a couple of years now I’ve been putting it off until this PS5 update arrived. I’m looking forward to finally seeing what the fuss is about.
Am I right that these upgrades will include the DLC for free?

Any ideas how they have improved it? It’s already 4k 60fps on series x…

dogbot Thanks for the offer, mate - very kind, and much appreciated, but I'm good. It isn't a question of money, nor one of principle; it's at least in part a question of OCD stupidity, although I'd rather not delve too deeply into that right now! I was/am looking forward to buying a boxed PS5 copy, is all, especially as the original September 2020 announcement of the "next-gen" version (as it was back then) featured this image:
Sure, I'd already resigned myself to the fact that a retail version was unlikely to launch in 2022, but I'd hoped CDPR would've had its act together to the point whereby they'd have been able to announce a firm 2023 release date. They didn't, hence my disappointment.
I don't want to overplay my righteous indignation, though. I'm still having a blast with Ragnarok (and The Binding of Isaac, although I've barely touched it since GoW launched); I'm sure The Witcher 3 will launch in physical form on PS5 within the first half of next year, and I can decide at that point whether or not to buy it; and when all is said and done, there are more important things going on in the world at present!
Still really appreciate your offer, though.

Actually looking forward to delving back in to this over the Christmas break. Great timing. I never did either of the two expansions as after I finished the main game (which was only a couple of years back) I got the PS5 and got distracted with other stuff, then held off after first hearing about a poss next (current) gen update. Brilliant game.

@uly - presumably you'll find out the release date next week, so fingers crossed it isn't too far away.

I'm looking forward to this. I can resume my drug-addled Gerald playthrough in the hearts of stone dlc.
Wonder what it'll look like with all the shineys turned up to 11, it's still a looker now

dfunked I hope so, dude! I've seen some comments to the effect that the retail version won't be formally announced until the digital release has been and gone, but that's all speculation insofar as I'm aware. At this stage, my main concern is the Cyberpunk DLC - no doubt CDPR will want to avoid a scheduling conflict between that and the physical editions of TW3, and the former is bound to take precedence (especially if they want to release it in hard-copy form as well, as part of a 'Complete Edition' on PS5 and Xbox Series X).

Maybe this will tempt be back to The Witcher 3 and actually finish it some time.
Do we know if this will be compatible with existing saves on PC or is that too much wishful thinking?
I think I've tried to play through it 3 times now and have drifted away from it. First time was somewhere in Skellig and the next couple of times in Novigrad. Not touched the DLC, which is probably my main incentive to return, as they get so much praise.
Not sure I would want to start over a 4th time.

I’ve only ever finished it once, but restarted… countless times. I actually love just scrubbing White Orchid over and over. I maybe got to Novigrad last time before stopping to wait for the update. Will no doubt start from scratch.

PC to PC saves will probably work. Even if it's not officially supported I'm sure someone will figure a way to convert within hours.
Curious to see if it's a replacement for the existing version on PC (like the recent RE updates that didn't go down well), or if it'll be a separate SKU.
It'll be a fresh playthrough on SX for me.

I'll be doing a fresh start, mainly because I can't remember where I got to in my last play.
Expansions will be all new for me.

I'll resume from my save which is after finishing the main story. Probably pootle about to get my bearings and remember how to play the thing then hit the first of the DLC's which I've still to do.

To be honest there's a good chance I'll load the game, look at the ray traced shadows / lighting / reflections, think "yeah nice" then log off.

I have never completed it but got a fair way through. This might pull me back in, though picking up all the systems again may dissuade me. Oh that, and the wanky combat system.

Saying that though, I'm starting to look forward to it a wee bit.

I would like it if they made a super hard difficulty where you had to actually use the right potions, spells and whatnot. Instead of ending the game with a bag of unused materials and just flailing about with Quen up, like you can do on Death March now. Wont happen though of course.

Good to see I'm not the only one to never finish it.
To be honest, I've always thought it a bit overrated. The open world is obviously a massive achievement, but the actual gameplay falls a bit flat for me. The combat is pretty dull and the character progression is handled with some very bland RPG leveling, focusing on simple percentage increases most of the time. The missions themselves are mostly just going from point a to b, with too much reliance on your witcher senses. Writing is good, although I still feel I have to caveat that with "for a game" most of the time. There are some stand out genuinely great moments, but it is mostly good by comparison.
