If you sell a set of full equipment (covering every equipment slot) of rare quality to a vendor, you get either chance orbs or chaos orbs back. I think chaos orbs start being returned when you trade gear with iLvl of 60 or more, which starts dropping in Act 9. You get more orbs if you sell unidentified sets and even more if all pieces have 20% quality (which is pretty rare to achieve). Now, elite players claim it's a waste of time, but for me, it was one of the steadiest sources of income (next to the chroma recipe), and if you have the stash space to spare, it doesn't take much time. You just pick up rare stuff and throw it into designated tabs (a helmet/gloves tab, a jewelry tab, and so on), and once you have a tab full, you'll probably have enough of the other items to at least sell a few sets. If not, you just don't pick those up you have a full tab of, so it requires a small mental load. You can optimize a bit by only picking up the 3x1 size weapons, so you have to travel back to town a bit less often and save some space in stash. I usually played SSF, so it was of course very worthwhile for me, but I think at least the chaos recipe should also be worth it for regular players, at least up until you reach the later tier maps. ERMAGERD! ... i must try this. i have loads of alcs from this league event.

Probably not worth spending an alch for, though. Since chaos orbs are what? A couple alchs at most when you trade?

its a chance orb. it was a worthy test, league ends in a week so all this stuff will be dropped into the graveyard/standard league anyway. I have stash space so next league I'll hold onto random rare crap and vendor it.

D2 servers have shit the bed for the 4th day in a row, so I'm downloading this. Is there a good intro class? Something that gets around quickly and doesn't have too many buffs/debuffs/skill interactions to keep tabs on.

Look in the forum for easy builds. I guess a cyclone marauder or duelist should work (it's basically a whirlwind baba from D2). But since you're going to fuck up your first build anyway, just pick whatever you fancy and make it your first goal to learn the game.

Get a Templar or marauder and a big fucking stick with the Smite and Ancestral Call gems in and go hit something.
Then as you progress aim for around 300-350hp per act and don't forget your resists.
No gold, all the crafting mats are the currency.
If you stick it at all I'll drop some other shit I've learned so far

This is a pretty rough ride early on. The necromancer and now some coldfish thing are having me on toast

Necromancers have a curse that make you take more physical damage. For dealing with the coldfish, two cold resist rings would probably help a lot.

I whittled them down in the end. I'll see about getting resists, most of the tougher fights seem to involve the elements.

Molten strike is crazy if you invest into added projectiles a lot. Like introducing framerate problems for weaker machines crazy. But it also clears groups of enemies very quickly.

Generally, you should look up enemies you have problems with in the wiki, because you can learn about some damage mechanics that way, like reflect, or corrupted blood, or chaos damage (which bypasses energy shield), and so on.

i've done it again and my dps fell off a cliff but now i think i understand whats happening. I'm obviously wanting to transition to the brand build i've been working towards. i've finally rerolled some gear with the stats/sockets etc that i want and slotted some support gems.
now the problem, the gems i'm transitioning to are now low level so all my scaled damage just 'poof' gone. i'm guessing its not a simple case of just swapping over like in d3 when you get the kit you want and now you've gone Super Saiyan.
do slotted gems level even if not actively using them?

Yeah, they just have to be socketed in your gear (that you are wearing) and they will gain XP from you slaying monsters. Maybe you could try to buy already leveled gems, they usually weren't that costly if they didn't have quality.

Solved my issue by moving some levelled gems back in but keeping the low ones to level up. Crafted a bitchin 2nd wand with essence and then some bench use to get a lightning/spell mod on it.
Then remembered that all the rares can have 6 affixes so went through them all and added missing Res or life stats.
A simple uplift if 100 life and some DPS and now I've smashing through shit again. Completed act4 and now I'm in Oriath. Went back and blitzed through the acension like a beast.
Game is ace

i like the idea of this new league mechanic and the rework of the tree is actually good and should require less travel along its paths for some odball stat that you needed
think i want to create something with tornados

Wow, that is a loooooong changelog: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3186390The new "player link" gems are pretty cool, especially the Intuitive Link seems pretty OP (if you play with other people at all). And the new orbs for changing sockets of corrupted items are interesting. Will probably be expensive as fuck, but I had some great mods on corrupted items that were only ruined by the sockets. League mechanic also seems strong. If you get a strong positive mod and a strong negative mod, and the latter doesn't affect your build at all, could lead to pretty OP items. Energy Blade and Temporal Rift sound interesting. 80% less ES is harsh, though, would have to see how leveling the gem affects its stats to judge it. Temporal Rift could be useful for builds with very mana-intensive skills, depends on how often it leaves copies behind. Maybe it will also work in an emergency setup, as it is a spell, it can be linked with Cast When Damage Taken. Passive tree rework is always cool, I enjoy the whining of people who can't do their favourite cookie cutter builds anymore and must wait for new build guides to come out instead. Also it often makes new stuff viable that was just borderline good before. Really tempted to reinstall... But no, I must not.

Costs <regular item> + Vaal orb to re-roll

Guess I'll have another go at this new league. I never get too far though, the massive size of the thing just shouts 'this game is not for you unless you want to devote all your free time to it', bit like Warframe in that regard. Oct 22/27th pc/console dates anyway.

If you are a completionist, or aspire to master the stuff you play, then it will eat a massive chunk of your time. The leagues are also pretty insidious, as they entice you to start all over again after a few months. At least in Warframe, once you have done everything, you only have to catch up with new stuff occasionally, whereas in PoE, you literally start from scratch every new league (if you are a league player).

I *finally* dropped a expedition logbook. It's worth about 30-35c but I think I'll hand it in and see what it leads to ... hopefully more lewts!
Got myself an instilling orb and dropped in in a flask. It now triggers my granite flask if I have to dodge. Result I'm now auto-tanky :-)
Also some of the jewels for the passive tree are very clever. Got one that gives lightning damage but if I have 40 int within a circular radius around it, I also get some spark buff.
Also I got a cluster jewel .. WTF. I opened a whole new section of the passive tree with loads of Dex base stuff for a ranger.

This game is turning me into a stat whore.
Found a new wand today with nearly double the spell damage of my current offhand. Took it to the crafty bench and stuck additional lightning damage.
Path of Building claims it's a 1600+ dps uplift. o_0
Also I've made around 8c with my trades today and I got a phat exalted orb. ooh what to buy just before the league ends.

I've just realised that some of the events that keep happening are actually past leagues that have become part of the core game. Some of them are very rewarding.
Walk over a protruding plant and it starts an abyss. Keep chasing it and killing everything and a trove box is dropped at the end with loot.
Ive come across a sort of reflective rift that turns out is a delirium mirror. The enemies in here are a lot tougher but if I keep it going then some serious fucking loot drops at the end.
Been collecting rogue markers but not understanding what to do with them. Googled it to find out that I right click and go to the ring and can do Heist missions. Confusing at first but this made my loot filter chime like a mother fucker as I opened chests.
Not eve touched delve yet as it's bastard hard

Good to see a POE thread on the forums.
I Bounced off of Diablo 3, never finishing the campaign, and more recently the D2 remaster, which I only played because I was told over and over again how much better it is than 3. POE feels the more interesting of the three and I’m having fun planning my new character. I know people say it’s a big mistake to not follow a guide but… I’m not following any guide.

Me neither. I'm trying to maintain a balance of life/resists and then pumping into damage where I can.
Taking nearly everything that's elemental or brand related. Had fun the other evening just searching the trade sites looking for items that might complement my shocking elementalist.
Got a lovely chest piece that does lost is shock related stuff, hopefully it works.

I know people say it’s a big mistake to not follow a guide but… I’m not following any guide. I don't consider it a mistake. Just keep in mind that you will most probably fuck up your char and get stuck somewhere in the later acts. But you learn most from your own mistakes, so when you eventually do get stuck, try to find out what the problem is, and try to make it better next time. I've just realised that some of the events that keep happening are actually past leagues that have become part of the core game. Yeah, they folded most of the temp league mechanics into the main game, so that they will be active in standard and every new league as well. I think they started to kick out one of the older league mechanics, when they fold in a new one, because of droptable overload or some other reason. Got a lovely chest piece that does lost is shock related stuff, hopefully it works. I've played a lightning caster templar once that used Lightning Tendrils, Cast When Channeling and Shock Nova together with some support gems as main skills. I had an Inpulsa's Broken Heart as chest, worked quite well up to red maps.

Yeah that's the one. Inpulsas. It says something like deal damage to shocked enemies a d they explode for x% life. Sounds right up my street. I'll be able to wear it in a couple of levels as well
