So... whitewash? Doesn't really feel like you're going to get a win in this series, not unless things massively change. I’m sure in the next match they’ll double up on spinners only to find them curiously ineffective. And the batting will still be shite.

It's the batting really. The tram selection has been shite too, I agree, they've got that wrong every game. Aus bowling attack has been excellent though tbf.

That's how it feels but there was a stat shared on Twitter about the opening bowling attack and the terrible figures they returned. The eye-opening thing was that the same three bowlers (Broad, Anderson and Woakes) returned nearly identically bad figures in the same test four years ago. I agree, the batting had been poor but I think the bowling attack has not looked like a unit for a couple of years. I reckon Silverwood will get the axe.

This was it:
"Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes in the 1st innings at Adelaide in 2017: 88-20-230-4
Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes in the 1st innings at Adelaide in 2021: 78.4-22-234-4
Four years of Ashes planning..."

Yikes. I think they got it wrong by "resting" Jimmy and Broad for the 1st Test. If they needed a breather after, fine, but surely you start with your strongest team 1st up.

Put us out of our misery FFS. I very much admire Buttler's resistance, and those around him, but, even now, yes, very much this. Get it over with.

I'd love to see our batters protect their wickets better, leave better and make their bowlers work a bit longer. The openers need to see off the new ball. The bowlers need to pitch it up. It's too friendly. Unfortunately our players just don't look up to red-ball cricket, having lost test after test for months. The ECB just isn't interested it seems. Such a shame.

The ICC need to do something tbh. It's dying on its arse. Which would be a proper tragedy, I don't think any other team sport can match the tension of a good Test match, which shifts back and forth etc.

I think the logic at the first test was that Anderson’s figures at that ground were historically pants, so pointless to risk knackering him up

But there isn't going to be anything while the moneymen custodians have got a short form tournament making billions. Clearly the scum at the top want to emulate the success. So we get the hundred. IPL needs to die before we get any meaningful change. More inclined to think test cricket will be moribund for a good long while.

Pathetic. I predicted 160ao when I saw we'd lost the toss but I had hoped to be wrong. Listened to 30 mins when I stirred at 5.30am and that was enough. Silverwood has to go, surely.

Fuck, David Gower looks old man. He's only 64 but looks much, much older. Did I miss an illness or something?
