I always thought it was strange naming English teams after an animal that isn’t native to the country. Bit like calling them the Aardvarks.

That was terrific. Well done Lionesses. Saw that out really well at the end and I think deserved it overall. Absolutely delighted. Who knew binning off Phil Neville for someone who knows what they're doing would pay dividends?!

Cracking first goal. I'll enjoy watching that repeated ad infinitum for the next 40 years.

87,000 at Wembley. Feels like a sea change. …And the missus has put on Love Island.

I’m not sure southgates team is that likeable anymore True equality will be when they get boo'd off the pitch. Holding the woman's team up as being superior / better is a type of benevolent sexism and is actually pretty disconcerting to be seeing so much off at the moment. Username checks out I guess

Me being happy for the women’s team and looking forward to taking my daughter to WLS man United games next season (which I planned to do before the euros) is sexism? It would seem the women’s team winning more than the men’s team is bothering you a bit too much...

I was only talking about the comparisons to the men's game that revolve around; 1) the women's game being better because they're not overpaid morons. 2) better atmospheres at matches 3) better sportsmanship I think the BBC will know better than to stoop to these lows but the tabloids will certainly be making these lazy sexist comparisons. Let's carry on celebrating! I really had fun today.

According to the official UEFA twitter account for the tournament today’s final had the highest attendance of any game - men’s or women’s - in a Euros Finals tournament.

Let's carry on celebrating! I really had fun today. I think those points stand though. My brother in laws family love going for those reasons, his young daughter absolutely idolises them and started playing football at 10 years old because of them. Having been to a few women's games with them, it's just a much more of a family friendly atmosphere (not for everyone). There's alot of families for one, it's also a fraction of the cost of the men's game. So a family trip to see a women's game costs the same as a trip to Megabowl, not a weekend away. The players too while playing for big name clubs or England, still have that accessible feel and feel something realistic young kids can aspire to. If I'm brutally honest, I'd prefer to watch my local mens village team.. But after the women's game had to beg steal or borrow up until recently just to have games held, I think they deserve all the hype and praise they get for this achievement. The Sun will come out with their usual "subs sink Germans" bullshit, but far more important than a few days of nationalistic bollocks or comparisons to the mens game, is I think this could be a turning point for the woman's game and the next generation. In this instance the blanket coverage, hyperbole and Santander endorsements I think will be worth it.

England Women don't have a single Spurs player in their squad and they win a trophy...
Coincidence? 👀

"Money is part of what can be so toxic in the men’s game – it breeds resentment among fans, players become so wealthy that they are almost seen as not a real person and cannot be touched by abuse. Whereas the women’s game has a much nicer vibe: more celebratory, less bitterness. None of this business of middle-aged men shouting abuse at boys young enough to be their sons. I would have no problem taking my daughter to a match when she is old enough, whereas I might with the men’s game."
I'd actually welcome more exposure to the women's game. Just a shame it's again behind a paywall of Sky Sports.

Also, none of the racist abuse against the England women's team. Nice to see 👍

But then what do I expect from people who'll sit and whine about representation for a few hundred pages in the woke thread.

It really was striking though. I don't remember a single black player in the semis and I think one on each side (briefly) in the final?
That shouldn't take away from what was a great achievement though, they deserve all the success they got. I hope they manage to keep the family-friendly atmosphere with the extra money and attention that this will inevitably bring.

Women haven't been represented. There are problems within in the women's game, but you have to lay the foundations and hopefully this is the start. But no lets sound off.
Just funny to me, when a bunch of gamer men talk about women on here. It comes across as you've all been scorned by a woman, just judging by the dating thread. Did your mum also not say she loves you?
They hold all the cards remember!

I’m not quite sure who exactly you’re ranting at but the racism thing was literally a passing mention. I even said it’s a conversation for another day.
But while we’re talking about how we come across, you come across like someone who absolutely couldn’t wait to shut down any hint of ‘woke’ talk and just generally be a bit of a bellend.
