Hmm. For the first time I don't think I'll be day one on this.

I will be. Thanks to GP it would be rude not to.

Looking forward to this one, and with GP it will be day one for me.
Previews seem to all be mentioning the new handling model and it letting you feel the cars (and their differences better) as well as the option for a more sim setting. Hoping it will play nicely with a wheel and pedals setup as I found FH4 unplayable with it, unlike Forza which is a delight.

Nice. I bizarrely love getting everything installed and ready weeks early like this. Hopefully there's just a tiny day 1 patch (if at all)
Nearly time to start planning my holiday to NZ!

Jesus, that's a big game.
I guess they're all big games at this point, I just tend to forget because games download in the middle of the night for me.
But yeah, I'm day one for Forza. My favourite Horizon was 2, and this is giving me similar vibes to that and 3.

If you change your region to Kiribati rather than New Zealand it has a 2 hour earlier time

It's 103GB on my Series S too.
I must admit, that whole thing Microsoft said about S games being smaller? Not that I ever believed it much, but it's disappointing to see that after Gears 5 they already stopped even trying.

This may have been because I got into it after all the DLC and added cars had already been out but I found FH4 a bit overwhelming. It was hard to know how to progress and incredibly easy to get the nicest cars right out of the gate.
I remember the days of Gran Turismo 3 when it felt like you’d really earned each car.
Am I missing something with the progression? Is there an ultimate goal that people are trying to achieve?

I'm loving the maxed out Escort Cozzie I was given at the start for the off-road races, and the maxed out Lamborghini Aventador I easily bought after 10 hours for everything on tarmac. Is there something I'm missing? There's no structured progression whatsoever.

I quite liked the progression in FH1.
But FH4 was somewhat overwhelming. And the public events were a bit too long. I finished the mandatory main story events and then left it there. I'm hoping FH5 will be more focused.

Nope, it's pretty much use what you want. You are limiting your experience if you only use 2 cars for everything

Nope, it's pretty much use what you want. You are limiting your experience if you only use 2 cars for everything I sort of get the appeal but when there’s 460 cars at launch, it quickly becomes overwhelming to a car layman. Since this is the casual version of Forza I just sort of want a linear progression of better cars.

You can use favourites so you've got a shortlist of cars you can concentrate on and get to know, one or two in each category to cover all the different events. Helps cut through the drowning in cars thing a bit.
I do agree a more linear progression is preferable, but equally I don't miss the old GT days of 10 races in an MX5, to get a slightly faster MX5 for the MX5 endurance race.

One of my favourite races on horizon was one I created, racing down a mountain forest at night in the rain. It had a piece of classical music set to it and you were doing it in a Robin reliant.
It just wouldn't have been the same in a lambo.

The Motorsport series is about linear progression, this is a lot more freeform. The best thing is that races tend to tune themselves to the car class you're in. I tended to find A class as the sweet spot between speed and drivability.

forza has never been "do 500 races in clapped out mx5 to get a slightly less shit mx5" but still would like a better progression for both forza games

Yeah, on my S, I’m going to have to ditch Flight Sim for this. I love it, but the Xbox is very pick up and play for me and FH5 will suit that better. I added an external HD, but find most games I want to play are X/S enhanced so it hasn’t actually helped with space much.

So that's good in one sense but fuck me that's a massive filesize. It's only going to get worse. I imagine Halo infinite will be bloated over time too.

No doubt FH5 will increase in size with free content and the paid DLC will be added in (not the actual DLC but sometimes games have the base files for the paid for DLC in an update)

Yeah, I remember by the end Halo 5 was huge. Back to those days then.

Digital Foundry have released a great video posted above absolutely eulogising Forza Horizon 5. It looks phenomenal. I've got it downloaded and I am so ready. I'm looking forward to this more than Halo I reckon.

I found the last two games to be very similar. Not that I didn't really enjoy both of them.

Yeah, it's interesting that I'm not massively more enthused for FH5. It looks absolutely stunning, but then so did 3 and 4. And arguably 2 and 1 in their day.
It's going to be an iteration on the theme of the most recent two, in a new locale. I'm not going to beat myself up about not completing all the content, I'm just going into this one as a fully casual dive in and out kind of experience without any real impetus to advance.
