PC download is now available. On the steam page for monster hunter wilds you have to click "request access to playtest" or somesuch thing, and then you can download the beta. I've read that you should run it as soon as you get it, as there's a lengthy optimisation process.
It's 23gig.

I was looking on Xbox last night, as it said 8pm for the predownload...because my language settings were default US, and switching it to UK turned that into 3am this morning when I've checked now, doh. 16GB for Series S at least.
In the queue, and more likely around Sat night than Fri. Those that have played have any idea on how I'll find you ?

Those that have played have any idea on how I'll find you ? I'm not sure. When your start the game and select your save it looks like you have a unique HunterID code. That may be how we search for each other. None of us on PS5 have met up yet.. 😔

Its a 21gig download and 23gig install on steam. Installed and loading \o/
EDIT: optimisation ref'd above is shader pre-comp and its probably the longest one I've seen (ooer). Took 6m20s on a 5800x3D for reference

hahaha. I installed the game to the mechanical hard drive by mistake instead of the m2 ssd. Game took 15 minutes to download, optimisation took a full 10 minutes.
Realising my mistake, I uninstalled it, downloaded it again to the right hard drive. Took 2 minutes to download, less than 5 seconds to optimise.

Took down my first ever monster ... wooooh
Seems to run great but there are lots of controls and things on screen for a noob to follow. Tried it on M+K but i'll try with a pad later. This is my first hunt straight after the intro, Chatacabra?
Girl recommended a switchblade charged blade based on questions asked so I went with it. Feels weighty when it hits so I'll practice. and see how I get on. Any tips will be appreciated cos I ended up just wailing on it at one point and not really sure if I was hitting it very hard or not.
Video looks to have processed all resolutions but its currently checking restrictions so I can't apply a thumbnail yet

I guess my basic tip is to stick with the weapon you've chosen for a couple of hunts so you can try to get the moves into your muscle memory. Although it looks like a simple button mash of triangle or circle there are subtleties around timing, chaining attacks, and using L2 or R2. Take a look at the Arrekz gaming channel for weapon guides, and look at the in-game guide to your weapon. It will describe the basic moves and also show some simple combos. Should be enough to get you going.
The other skill is in learning the moves of the monster - they will have standard 'tells' so you know an attack is coming. This allows you to dodge, and also often leaves the monster vulnerable to a counter attack.
A benefit of this beta is that you don't need to worry about weapon choice or advancement. So you can just focus on learning the basic controls.
Enjoy!

Also, did you mean Switch Axe, or Charge Blade? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's a blade that unexpectedly turned into an axe...Edit: turns out its a charge blade

Those recommended requirements look wild indeed. 6700XT for 60fps on medium settings... with frame generation enabled?
I'll give it a try on my 6600XT and see how it runs without frame generation!

I ran without framegen but did have dlss quality on. It ran alright but admittedly there is not a lot going on so who knows what it's like later, I'm assuming we get to areas that are more built up. I know what capcom and cities run like

From what I can see in streams, frame gen is dramatically beneficial, also apparently vsync is bugged so turn it off as it seems to hobble your fps below your refresh rate.

I know right.
I watched a video on this charge blade and now understand why it looked like my attacks were just bouncing off. I though it was a hard shell or something but nope, I was overcharged ?! and I have to transfer 'stuff' to the shield which goes in some vials and that adds damage/buffs to attacks.
Ermagerd it's deeper than I expected. One video was 8 minutes just on new shit, I need to know the old shit.
/Must do work

RT and Y will transform into axe mode and you can unleash all the damage when you're fully stocked. You can precharge the blade tourself holding B. When you stock the charges it's best to stock red charges for more dame in axe mode and RT and Y before an enemy attack gives you a counter strike for all melee weapons.

Fightincowboy has a number of weapon guides too, here is the switchaxe one: And the Charge Blade: The great thing about MH is that all weapons are roughly equal in damage, and all can be fun. I started with a switchaxe too and loved it but ended up maining the Greatsword and it will always be my go to weapon. I have since played through Generations with sword and shield and rise with a hammer having a great time with them all. Pick a weapon - if it feels alright then stick with it and you will likely learn to love it.

Yeah there's no wrong weapon, they're essentially like fighting game characters some are easier to use than others and some require a longer learning curve.

Interestingly now it's gone full open beta it seems to look worse somehow in performance mode and run worse too since the beta for ps plus. Odd.

I'm running on ps5. It's just what it is at this point. The RE Engine does not do well in an open world setting performance wise.

Ok so, I've only tried it for a few minutes, but on the very starting area (desert ride), I was getting 58-59fps, with no way to stabilise it to 60fps even after setting everything to low and the GPU having a big power budget to spare. As I don't have Freesync, this is not ideal.
Frame generation did get me to a full 60fps, but ehm, it looks like dog shit. Ridiculous amounts of extra lag, severe ghosting when moving the camera, and horrendous stuttering throughout. No way it's usable like this. I'll try upgrading my GPU drivers but this is the worst frame gen I've seen yet (Immortals of Avernum was quite laggy but looked good at least).
This is also the first game that apparently put me at risk of running over available RAM, at 15.3GB used, and that was with no applications other than Steam running in background. Maybe I should consider that extra cheap 2x4GB to hold me over until it's time to switch to DDR5.
