Couldn't see the Sunbreak demo on Switch earlier, anyone had any luck yet? Nintendo gonna Nintendo. Find the base game in the store, go to the purchase page, click download demo, pick the Sunbreak demo. There doesn't seem to be a means of searching for it outright.

I'm fully expecting to get spanked for this - to the point whereby I almost posted it in the Unpopular Opinions thread! - but I *really* hope the next Monster Hunter game adds enemy health bars.
By all means, make them optional for those who like the system the way it is; hell, have them turned off by default if you so wish. But please, PLEASE include them somehow.
I know you already get a certain amount of visual feedback on the damage you're doing to a monster, which is nice, but I found it bloody infuriating to spend 50 minutes fighting an enemy (I'm looking at you, Nergy) and lose by running out of time, without even knowing how well (or otherwise) I did.
Was the monster a couple of hits away from dying, or would an extra 10 minutes have made no difference whatsoever? Do I basically have the right strategy, or do I need to go away and have a rethink? And so on.
So, yeah. Spank away!

I think the reason “MH diehards” don’t like the idea is that the gameloop is about learning the habits and “tells” of each monster. While there have been some quality of life improvements over time, a lot of the enjoyment of the series comes from learning these behaviours and that includes understanding when a monster is about to attack, or it is enraged, or tired / injured.
So while you might think that it is a quality of life improvement without any discernible downside, it would actually reduce the enjoyment for a lot of fans. Which doesn’t mean it won’t happen of course given how much effort Capcom are putting in to making it easier for new players.
Personally I wonder if they could incorporate it as a wearable - so you can use it for low rank but when you get serious you have to remove it to be able to wear a helmet or something.

Onny And I get that, I really do... but if they were to make it 100% optional, and something into which you have to opt via a menu setting, surely that'd be okay? I'm not out to dilute the core Monster Hunter experience for established fans. I just want a more casual-friendly experience for n00bs like me, that's all
This bugbear of mine is by no means limited to MH, by the way. Any game with prominent boss fights and no health bars to give you an idea of how you're faring - yes, Hollow Knight, I see you over there, trying to hide behind the couch - is in the same [Half-Life 2] boat as far as I'm concerned.

I don't like MH having damage numbers, but they're in the game now. So I think health bars could be added just as well.
I think ideally the visuals of the game would be so self explanatory that you don't need damage numbers or health bars.

The Monsters *are* health bars. Part breaks, exhausts all indicate progress. If you've broken all the parts, exhausted it a few times, then it's about to limp, which is the 20% mark (or 0% if you can cap it).
I'm not against it in principle but it better be optional. I don't want any more screen clutter

I tried the MH:Rise Sunbreak demo. It's, umm, plays pretty nice. But damn the screen is so busy. You've got your damage numbers flashing off, you've got your cat and lizard dog, you've got quick wheels and menus and tooltips popping up, floaty bugs, grappling hooks. I think I'm getting old, all I'm thinking is I'd just like the old MonHan with none of the weird new stuff.

Argh, I caved in and bought the digital edition of Rise for Switch as it was only £25.
It seems that I had put 50 hours in and got to HR33 before selling it. Not so bad. But Christ, it’s going to take a while to get used to the controls again. At least I have until Thursday.
Anyway; SnS main reporting in.

Yeah, I hope so. I will be rusty as fuck at first though. Oh same. Last time I loaded it up I had no idea how to wirebug, mount the palamute or even open the bloody map. Still gave Radna what for with my SA though
