I think the Turbomatic 2 that was on my first proper 'racer', and now lives on the Brompton will outlast me.
Edit: new page non sequitur time.

Going to try a particular hilly route tomorrow. Most of the hills I can deal with but there is 1 hill that already has me dreading the ride.
Any tips for getting up hills other than just man up and get on with it?

I'm just going to go into my lowest third of gears and see how I get on. I don't care about how long it takes me to get up, as long as I get up it without even considering walking up. this is the culprit. It looks worse on Google Maps than the segment on Veloviewer but I'm sure I'll be able to do it. It's just that bit in red which has me worried! Going down that hill is a right laugh though, very fun.

Parked in the hallway, my Colnago Super (with full Shimano groupset, blashemy I know). Need to straighten out the cockpit, but I'm not in a hurry. Will only be using it for some nice summer rides.

Colnago had some of their biggest wins with shimano equipped teams

Like a nice climb that, smash it out the saddle as hard as you can until the switchback, then the grade eases off and you’ll float up the rest

Lose weight and ride more hills So what you're saying is get an electric bike This is never the answer to any question! I really dislike slogging up a hill blowing hard, then some chubby old bloke slides past on his leccy bike saying something like 'nice day for it' or 'some hill this, eh?' Bastards. At least it gets them out & about getting some exercise i s'pose. Bitter? Me?

Yeah I have a friend who rides an electric bike and he boasts about a 100 mile ride he has done which really annoys me as I know he just used electric power whenever the going got tough. We went on a group ride once and he breezed up a steep hill then said he wasn't using electric power either. I tend to not want to cycle with him as it winds me up lol. It's petty but all his Strava record average speeds are 15.5mph...... In other news my friend has backed out of todays cycle. It's his birthday so I can't be too annoyed as I'd opt for cake too. Still going to go for a ride but probably won't tackle the hills by myself today

My preferred tactic for big bastard climbs is to concentrate on the tarmac 2 metres ahead. Looking at the suffering to come makes it worse.

My cycle was quite tame in the end. 70k distance with only 450m of elevation gained.
Though I am determined to take that hill on sooner than later. The last 15Km were a right slog as the wind ramped up so I'm glad I didn't try it today as the higher I would've been the worse the wind would've got!

Opinions sought: White road shoes, yes or no?
Mostly UK use, mostly summer months, so still the odd random downpour to be had.

I was thinking pink bar tape when my time came to replace it.
This weather is shite though. Feels like the house will blow away so I guess cycling is off the cards. I've managed to convince myself and my preggers partner that we need a turbo trainer when the baby arrives next month so that we can still exercise when the other is out of the house

Did white bar tape once, looked great for about a week. Still undecided about white shoes, but black is so safe, and dull.
The sworks lace in coral looks alright, but.. laces.

I have a pair of Lake carbon shoes. Quite expensive, so bought them in white because they were slightly cheaper than the black ones. Nice pro look (with white socks), but after less than a year they look pretty shite now. Should've probably worn oversocks more, but oh well.

That escalated quickly I went from thinking I'd like a turbro trainer to convincing the partner we'd benefit from one to having one being delivered within the space of week. As soon as she seemed even remotely positive about it, I decided to act before she changed her mind.
Any tips for a complete novice? Any preference for Zwift or any of the other offerings? I quite like the look of RGT for the magic roads and cheaper price but not sure which way to go

Did my first hour long training session in four months last night. Felt like death.
It's going to be a long and shitty road back.

Zwift has a reasonable community feel, has lots of users and events/races/workouts.
Get the companion app downloaded too to see events etc. I've had it for a year and have really enjoyed it, ymmv, but can always cancel and try the other ones if you don't take to it.
Dare i say it, it's made indoor training almost fun.
Although I did a ramp test yesterday (which you'll need to do to set an ftp for training zones etc), which was definitely less fun.

Since I've started taking a bit more seriously I've given it the big 'i am' about doing an FTP test. I've always known my FTP would be remarkably low and I'm OK with that as the only way is up and I am essentially a beginner But now I'll actually have the ability to do a FTP/Ramp test, I find the thought a bit sickening haha. They sound like they're no fun at all.
My plan was to do the ramp test, see my low FPT and then do the 4-6 week FTP Builder course. I'll just treat it like a videogame high score.

Don't stop there, when their baby brain kicks in it's a golden opportunity to try your luck with anything, I managed to give our youngest the middle name Indiana when she was in full swing baby brain mode a few days after the birth.

Ramp tests are a big improvement on the old style 20 minute efforts. You can only really push as hard as your body will let you, and even if you don't do well today, just simply doing a bit of regular training will likely see you make a noticeable improvement next time.
