Not sure why derbs thinks he gets to decide what's canon or not in the toyverse...

Wonder if they'll do one on the real life inspiration for Mr Potato Head, and the sordid sexual abuse scandal. That's some libel right there buddy. Everyone knows at the time those allegations were reported, Mr Potato Head was at a Spud-U-Like in Watford.

All joking aside, I'm super-excited about a movie that purports to be an "in-universe" movie from a different film series - the way Tarantino has said that the Kill Bill movies exist as movies within the universe of all his other films, rather than being "real" in that universe. This has absolutely no bearing on the quality of Kill Bill or whatever, but it just tickles something in my nerd brain.
On the other hand, it feels really weird and kinda reductive to even think "hey, what if Buzz Lightyear, but real?" I mean, why not just do another totally original sci-fi story? Pixar's best film is WALL-E, which is fantastic sci-fi, so the idea of them going back to that well is really, really exciting. But I don't see any reason to do that with Buzz Lightyear - who's a joke, really, a play on gizmo-laden action figures and lunkhead deadpan by-the-book officer/cop archetypes - unless you're trying for something weird, meta, or funny with it. Which - hey! - maybe they are, and I'm absolutley 100% certain I'm overthinking it.
But for me, "meta in-universe movie, even though this is something never acknowledged in the movie itself" is still more interesting. I will accept I may be weird.

Hopefully we can get this nailed down today. I might be going into the office this week and I don't want to be giving out false information on what is and isn't canon in the Toy Story extended universe.

Look, it's obvious. The toy Buzz is based on the movie Buzz from the toyverse extended storyverse, which is based on Buzz Aldrin from the fake moon landings in the Tom Hanks movie that got canned.

The movie ends with a pullback revealing weโre actually in the American Beauty universe and Kevin Spacey gives a sly nod to the camera as he puts on his jogging clothes.

At the end of the movie, the astronaut Buzz Lightyear is hit by Emperor Zurg's superweapon, which turns him into a plastic miniature version of himself. He then falls into a wormhole and is teleported to the other side of the galaxy, in Andy's house.
Eventualy, as we all know, Woody brainwashes him into believing that he really is a toy.

At the end of the credits, the screen goes blank, the music stops and there's an expectant pause... Followed by a shot of Mark Zuckerberg holding a sign saying "Metaverse. See?!?!".

Quote from the director, bold text my emphasis. It's a standalone film, it's not canon to the Toy Story films. It's a sci-fi film about a space ranger who happens to be a character in a different movie too. A "What If...?", if you want to think about it like that. It's pretty impressive that that clarifies absolutely nothing at all and also contradicts itself, but okay lol.

So Tom Hanks' brother Jim Hanks does the voice for the video games and TV spots, why didn't they get Tim Allen's brother Jom Allen to do this?

Itโs voiced by the real life Buzz Lightyear guys, itโs an auto-biopic.

I think it's time we all moved on from this childish discussion, and instead focused on the fact that Chris Pratt has just been cast as Garfield.

Yes, but only Garfield in the 'What if' Garfield was voiced by a fat, annoying, moronic cunt timeline. It's its own thing, man.
The scene where John has him castrated is allegedly very graphic, and provides the narrative motivation for much of Garfield's caustic and acerbic humour.
Not canon, though!

But the mid credits scene where Captain Carter hands Buzz the wrist laser that Howard Stark made for him will at least clear up the canon.

So am I correct in thinking that the Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story series was voiced by Allen as Pixar were too cheap to get the real Buzz to record the voice?

Well they paid Allen in bags of cocaine, it was the most cost effective.

Really, they should have just got William Shatner and it would have been perfect.
Or perhaps Chuck Norris. And maybe have Buzz, Texas Space Ranger throw a roundhouse kick or two during the movie.

Thing is, in 1995, Tim Allen was almost as big a draw as Tom Hanks. Home Improvement was either still on or had just finished, the Santa Clause movies were going strong, and he was cropping up in other Disney family films around that time too. Hanks had only just moved from "comedy star" to "megastar" with the run of Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, and Apollo 13. So arguably they picked two of the biggest stars in Hollywood, both of whom were known mostly for comedy.
