Just make Everything or Nothing. They already have the theme.

And they say creativity is dead. I mean technically they did just adapt all of Ian Fleming's work.

To be fair Quantum of Solace did give us the Adam and Joe song wars themes which are honestly the main thing I can recall surrounding the film.

The weirdest thing these movies did was the status quo reset in Skyfall, giving him back his walther, making M a dude, moving him back behind a leather door and showing off a load of classic stuff while categorically stating it’s not a code name, giving him parents and a whole load of lame back story.

The Substance - wow, that really was quite something. Did I like what I just watched? I'm not really sure, but it certainly was... a film. Absolutely disgusting throughout and I'm glad that the Foley artist got a prominent credit, as they really add to the gross out nature of it.
Felt very like a very extreme episode of Black Mirror, which is good, but also perhaps suggests why these things might be best with shorter run times, as I really started questioning motivations of both characters. Mainly I had no idea why Elisbeth would continue doing this. Unless there is some shared consciousness thing going on, it doesn't seem to give her any benefit, beyond a nice long nap. I guess we are just meant to accept it is the effect of the drug her inability to quit, but it didn't really do much to explain the appeal beyond that initial desire to be young again. Sue is also just a little empty and fairly standard young woman after fame stereotype.
Also wasn't sure what the people who are giving out The Substance get from it. Can't recall there being money exchanged.
It is obviously intended as fable though, so the broad brush strokes mostly work. And that ending really is quite something. It echoes lots of classic tales, such as King Kong or Frankenstein, but certainly can't accuse it of not being unique.

I think it’s best not to over think it. It doesn’t explain anything or make logical sense because it doesn’t have to as it basically runs on cartoon logic to tell its story.

Also wasn't sure what the people who are giving out The Substance get from it. Can't recall there being money exchanged. It would of been so easy to add a line about a setting up a payment and just a quick idea - Elizabeth gets a little younger by a month everytime she swaps with Sue also never got the impression they were the same person or "they were one". As someone else said best not to think about it but its a shame someone didn't see these weak elements of the script.

I wouldn’t say that was a weak plot hole or anything. It’s just a tighter story without additional details like that.

Most horror films don't really make a lot of sense when you think about them in the case of The Substance it could quite possibly be a beta test of a product that would then be made available after more development but it's just easy to call it handwavium and "enjoy" the ride.

I think there is a definite message about how women are treated when they reach a certain age. The whole going invisible thing that a lot of women mention. I'm not qualified enough to talk about that either way though so I will just say I enjoyed the ride and would recommend watching it.

Agree with all that. I don't think those plot elements I mentioned are necessarily the problem I had, but the length is really the issue. I tighter runtime likely would have not given time to worry about that sort of thing. There was quite a lot of time spent ogling at Sue (not that that didn't serve purpose) and some of that could certainly have been trimmed.
Definitely well worth watching though and I thought it was generally excellent. I probably liked Heretic a little more, but this stands out and is more unique.

I didn't feel the story in the Substance was particularly strong, it was fine for what it was but kept everything very surface level. Was surprised Dennis Quaid's character didn't try to assault her, the side plot of the nerdy high school dweeb didn't go anywhere, the other people taking the substance didn't show up much. Felt they could have edited it a bit more, cut out 20-30 mins and added a bit more plot.

The thing that annoyed me the most about the Substance was that I read several critical reviews who all included a variation of "it's a case of style... OVER SUBSTANCE" and I wanted to reach through the screen and punch them.

Yeah, I genuinely don't know how you could look at Skyfall and say it's wank. But I was never a huge fan of classic Bond, so maybe that's why?

I thought Skyfall was great. Very much between it and Casino Royale for top of Craig's Bond films. I did like No Time To Die too, although not seen it since the cinema and have a feeling it may not hold up on a second viewing.
Spectre was shit though.

I’ve said this on EG/FG before. I thought it was wank, cliched rubbish almost all the way through despite a promising start
Then towards the end the baddies are after M, she and her escort decide to shine flashlights at the enemies so they can track them in the pitch black. Then when they get where they are going, was it a church? She just sits there whilst he looks for some candles, at that point I thought they were just taking the piss
I was just annoyed at how wank it was overall by that point so it will always be remembered as wank. Only seen it once though so might watch it again

Gaia (all4)
South African horror film about a woman who gets trapped in the forest. Its got a very strong influence of Last of Us and a similar vibe to parts of Annihilation.
Manages to maintain a creepy vibe with some dreamy atmospheric stuff and scratchy body horror for what was obviously a limited budget.
Decent enough.

I liked the end of it. But I did have a thought in the back of my head, about why MI6 couldn't have sent maybe a couple of guys to help out. You know exactly where they are going to be, exactly the time they are going to be there, and you can't send a helicopter?

It’s also got the Dark Knight issue of the bad guy’s master plan basically needing insanely implausible coincidences to happen all at once.

I watched the seasonally appropriate V for Vendetta.
It's great. Better than I remembered actually. I think when I watched it back in the day I was mainly there for the action, but now I appreciate some of the performances and details. There are some really good lines and quotes in there too.
Though watching a scarily prescient film about the rise of High Chancellor Adam Sutler right after recent events in america was probably a bad idea, as now I'm depressed.
Remember remember the 5th of November...

Also right at the end where he talks to Moneypenny (whose dream job is apparently admin work) and says "I don't think we've been formally introduced" Really? You've been colleagues for how long, and you haven't been introduced? What did he call her when they were on missions?! I must know!
