Dave_McCoy Are you talking about that bastard that patrols around a bonfire in Malum District? If so, you can run past him and find a ladder to climb up the ledges and take on his mates above, before facing him. But you do need to beat him as he opens the rest of the area... I thought it was actually...no, not that one. Its a long street with a fire at one end. I did actually run past him around to another courtyard with a Stargazer that I managed to activate. Was running around looking for a ladder like a fool! *Edit* Worst bit is that everytime he gets me, he has a little dance.

I know where you are now. He’s completely optional once you’ve got that Stargazer. The progress route is in the big house; so good luck and maybe come back to him when you’ve levelled up more.

JonFENo worries. You certainly didn't mislead me, I just didn't read it properly. Pushing forward again now and back to enjoying myself. Some good story beats as well now.

I've just got to the start of Chapter 3 in this after finally committing to playing it.
It's enjoyable and very polished but very derivative of the Souls games, especially Bloodborne.
Does it find its' own identity eventually or should I expect a riff on Bloodborne throughout?

It doesn't set up cosmic horror stuff storywise like BB, but gameplay is heavily influenced by BB, there's no denying that.
I, for one, looked past the similarities and enjoyed it enormously, to be honest; as far as Soulslike games go, this is the closest to the FROM formula as it can be...

I think that may be the problem for me - it's too close to the formula. Even the opening area gives off huge Yharnam vibes.
It's hard to stop comparing it to BB as I'm playing it but the game seems to invite this comparison - hell, it even had the woman in the window moment.

Its that for the rest of the game, for better or worse.

Good to know - it's not turning me off by any stretch, just a little disappointing.
Looks like the combat will have a bit more individuality though with the P-Organ stuff so I'm looking forward to getting stuck into that.

IIRC, Lies of P weapons were added to Wo Long a few months ago (with one of the DLC's?) so I guess this is part 2 of their collaboration; good, would love to see more of this!

Starting to get a little more into this now.
It's derivative but very slick and polished, plus it has enough wrinkles to the formula to keep me interested.

I beat Laxasia last night and it feels like I'm in the home stretch.
Is there anything worth wrapping up before proceeding?
It feels like I've not found a single invisible door, hidden area or secret boss in the entire game.

No, I don't recall any hidden areas or secret bosses to be honest, unless you count the various shortcuts you unlock around a level.

That's good to know - didn't know if I was missing a trick like pressing X/A near a blank wall.
On one hand I wish it had a few more secrets but on the other I've appreciated the linearity - the core loop is as satisfying as ever.

Bit of a disappointing ending/boss fight.
A section that goes on far too long and a final boss that's pretty much a rip of Melania and pissed me off a bit too much due to my impatience in finishing the game.
Decent game - foundations are there for an excellent sequel if they add a few more ideas of their own while building on the solid combat.

rhaegyr Did you actually beat the final boss? Kudos if you did, he had me on the verge of rage-quitting
Agree with your thoughts on a sequel, the foundations are there for a great game

Yeah I finished him (just) - the second phase was an absolute pain in the arse and easily the hardest fight in the game. Ended up using a ton of consumables and throwables.
It's weird - I spent longer on Sword Saint Ishiin in Sekiro and was beyond elated after beating him whereas I quietly exhaled and said "thank fuck" after beating Nameless Puppet in half the time (though it still took me over an hour).
Think it's because the ending stretch feels like it goes on forever and I was ready to draw a line under the game!

Just started playing this - defeated City Hall boss. Bloody good innit?! I was extremely put off by the puppet theme, and I remain largely unimpressed by the enemy design, but it's a very competent From Soft ripoff and a very good game in it's own right with lots of unique spins on the theme. Definitely scratching that itch.

Started playing this over the weekend and been having a good time with it. It is very, very "influenced" by From, to the point where you could easily assume it was a From game. The level design isn't quite up to their standard though.
Just beaten King's Flame in the factory, at around the 5-6 hour mark. Went with the balanced weapon at he start, but switched to the rapier when I reached the vendor that sells the other weapons. I did try the great sword for a little bit too, which I liked, but I always go dex in these games, so why break tradition?
Still using the rapier at the moment, which I just got to level 3 before the factory boss fight (upgrade items don't seem as plentiful in this as in Souls games). Any recommendations for dex weapons to switch to? I don't seem to have encountered much that scales well on it, but I have just got the technique crank to help with that.
Also, am I understanding the blade/hilt system right that the stats boost comes from the hilt rather than the blade itself? Can I stick the rapier hilt onto the great sword and turn it into a dex weapon? Sounds like there could be juicy potential for broken builds if that is the case!

I've just finished the Cathedral, which is where things get even more From influenced if that's even possible! Proper cool place with a very nicely designed boss.
My strategy of tanking damage and hitting things repeatedly with a huge sword until they die seems to be holding up. Do not have parries down even a little bit.
This is a very good game, everything is just a bit below From standards, but that's absolutely fine!

Sounds like there could be juicy potential for broken builds if that is the case! I’m on NG+3 and I’m not sure I understand it fully. My advice would be to swap blades and handles around, smack the dummies at the hotel with them and find the right balance of damage and speed for your build. I used the puppet sabre all the way through and also loved the Trident of the Covenant, which you’ll be getting shortly. The recent patch weapon Dragon Glaive ? Is very, very good as are others you’ll unlock later from boss fights. Just make sure you keep the Boss ergos and don’t consume them or use them for amulets until NG+ It’s free to swap handles at the hotel weapon lady, the only cost is upgrades for the blade part itself, so have at it

That is kind of how it works, yeah. The scaling largely comes from the handle and you can reassign the scaling stat but there is also scaling for the damage type of its move set. If you put a slashing blade on a stab handle, it does less damage, so if you put the electric baton on the rapier handle it will do less damage than putting it on the jet turbo handle.

Just reached the Archbishop. Only gave it one quick go. Classic Dark Souls moment of "oh, you thought that was the boss?"
Also found the merchant that trades weapons and amulets for boss ergo. Traded one for the umbrella weapon. Not quite the Bloodborne cane, but bonus marks for the strong attack that ends in opening the umbrella.

I’ve just finished the level after cathedral. Strong Yarnham vibes throughout. So far it’s like playing a stripped down, slightly less punishing version of Bloodborne with some nice quality of life improvements, which I’m really enjoying. I hear that changes towards the end so I’m readying myself for punishment at some point.

Not quite the Bloodborne cane, but bonus marks for the strong attack that ends in opening the umbrella. I think this might have changed with a patch but the above advice about blades and handles quickly becomes academic when you start picking up boss weapons, especially with whatever they call a dex build. Unless you were looking for a specific damage type, they outperformed normal weapons by some margin. Speaking of which, did they ever adjust the boss amulet weight cost? They all seemed to be far too heavy to bother with so I always chose the weapon, even if it wasn't for my build.

I think the boss amulets stayed heavy, even after patches. They’re viable in later NG cycles, but it’s always good to have plenty in Capacity.
Good advice on boss weapons- they’re very strong in this although you have to be more picky about what you upgrade, as mats are nowhere near as common. The archbishop boss weapon is S-tier for me. It’s heavy, but the blunt damage is fantastic

The trident? Yeah, that carried me through the entire game, even when I got the double dragon sword. Good move set, high damage and pretty robust.
