Watched a trailer for Triangle Strategy and read up on it a bit and it very much sounds like Tactics Ogre with the more serious story and your choices affecting recruitable characters. There were so many great characters in TO and getting them was great fun Haven't played Octopath but the visual style has always looked lovely to me. Could be great. Trying to decide if this will be enough to make me not care about Elden Ring or if I should go through the faff of trying to get a PS5 before next week. Advance Wars won't be far behind either mind you I'm torn as to whether to try Elden Ring too. I'm terrible at souls games but I have a strange love for the first 3rd of them lol. On the other hand Triangle Strategy looks great and my intention for a while was to make that my big time sink game.

On the other hand Triangle Strategy looks great and my intention for a while was to make that my big time sink game. I think my Elden Ring thing was just last minute FOMO. I haven't been that fussed about it up until now and having decided not to get it (or a PS5), I feel about the same. Really looking forward to Triangle Strategy though - if Tactics Ogre was on Switch I'd be all over it. Finished it quite a few times but one of those games that never gets old. If you ever get the opportunity to play it, do so
I read this will take around 50 hours so definitely something to sink into if it holds up. Pretty excited for it - not sure whether or not to get the demo or just wait for the game as it's only 2 weeks away now really

Honestly, in your case I'd download the demo to see if you like the gameplay loop. You mentioned you only want to fight and not explore. Play an hour or two and see if it's as focused as you want it to be before paying full price.

I don't mind a bit of exploring really if I like the game, just haven't played a JRPG in forever because they're such time sinks. Was actually thinking about picking up Octopath or Bravely Default 2 anyway but doesn't seem worth it now with TS so close Used to love JRPGs. I think a part of me is worried it'll make me want to play more and they take aaaages to play
edit: Loved the first Bravely Default to bits and did a cry at the end. The gimmick/twist was amazing

I've been meaning to get Crash 4, had a lot of fun with the trilogy remake. Is it any worse than that? I done the trilogy last year, and while frustrating in places I never found it quite so infuriating as this. I think my biggest issue is the check pointing, some are so far apart with long sections of precision platforming, and or having to learn sequences that you end up racking up the restarts very quickly. It’s not a terrible game by any stretch, maybe it’s just that I’m shit at it.

Obviously it looks amazing - disappointing that they don't show character portraits during conversations though. Switched voices to Japanses and then off. With the artstyle, it definitely feels more authentic without voices
Only managed the one battle but all very FFT/TO. One thing I'm not clear on yet is if there are classes - I'm guessing not as units all seem to be unique and you get a pop up with their specialities when you get them, so probably fixed. That's a shame, I love job systems. How are Octopath and Bravely Default 2?
I didn't mind exploring the town either, it's always much better in these older style JRPGs than fully 3d ones. Running around the monastery in FE3H talking to everyone took forever
One thing that I guess bothers me a little is that it's pretty obvious which dialogue options are tied to each type of response and given that it affects which characters will join you, I'm inclined to always go with the same type to make sure I get all the people on that 'route'. I assume there will be characters that can only be recruited if you have a very high level in a particular area

Didn't they include a mode with more checkpoints, or does that not help matters?

I’ve been playing on the unlimited lives mode, which has been a good thing as some of the levels have taken 25 lives or more.

Octopath very much has job classes and at certain points in the game you can allocate different/extra classes, there's also late game special classes hidden away behind some tough bosses. It's great in that regard.

Had some more time with Triangle Strategy and I'm definitely getting this. There's quite a bit of Fire Emblem thrown in there as well - looks like you upgrade units/classes in the same way and the talking, so much talking! In 3 hours, I've done 2 battles
I think I've started varying up my responses a bit now, no idea how that will affect things but I'd rather do that than game it and I was able to get the first major decision to go the way I wanted. Thought that was rather good, especially being able to use information you get from the other talky/explorey bits
Pretty sizable demo

Given how JC4 went, and after what happened to Eidos, I have this nagging feeling that it will be pretty much a "final chance" for Avalanche...

TBF, they're probably aching to work on something else. Square Enix doesn't own, seeing as WB contracted them for Mad Max and id did the same for Rage 2.

Yeah, I've enjoyed all of them so far. 4 was definitely the weakest though. Took the destruction out of the whole "playground of destruction" idea. Sure you could blow stuff up, but it didn't seem to matter like it did previously. And for reason the graphics were slightly worse than 3.

I've only played JC2, just never really felt the need to try the others. Not quite sure why because I did find it fun

They're all the same. Go to tropical location, glide in airsuit, zipline kick goons in the face.

That does sound like fun, then I remembered that's exactly why I didn't bother with JC4...
Loved JC2 back in the day, but meh...

Slightly frustrating, but at least 1 and 2 got made. On the plus side, they are making a new Skate, right? I know it's not current gen, but Skater XL is pretty good, too.

If anyone hasn't played Slay the Spire yet, and has any interest whatsoever in doing so, I *highly* recommend it. Even if you don't normally like card games, or roguelikes, it's well worth a try.
Amazon's selling it for £5.99 (PS4) or £7.99 (Xbox One) - including delivery, if you have Prime - and at that price, it's an absolute goddamn steal.
Hell, it'd be good value for money for three times the cost of these copies, given how replayable it is and how much time you can put into it.

Slave Zero X? Where did this come from? store.steampowered.com/app/1903910/Slave_Zero_X/I had no idea someone had a prequel to Slave Zero in the works. The original game was fun enough but generally forgettable, so I'm not sure why someone 23 years later thought it needed a prequel.. mind, judging from the videos, it has basically nothing to do with Slave Zero anyway. Seems Ziggurat owns the IP now, I guess they wanted to do something with it. The developer Poppy Works isn't a known quantity either, they only worked on ports and technical assistance for other games so far.

Couldn't find the game trailers thread (also this trailer is actually months old but I only just found out about it), but if you want a rhythm game FPS, Metal: Hellsinger has got you covered! Out September 15:
This might need to go in the Metal thread as well, actually (if it isn't already there)
