I've still not bothered. But as I'll only ever bother playing single player the campaign being meh isn't a selling point. DoW3 also appears to have been designed with single player last. I blame StarCraft 2. Fuck Blizzard. DoW3 being a single player MOBA was it's biggest failing it was just a baffling idea.

Looking at the sale and the old games it's got me thinking about games we can't even buy anymore due to licensing hell and I thought about No One Lives Forever and it's sequel by Monolith also because there's a DF Retro video about it, fucking amazing games and proper funny. Had a bit of research and I forgot you can download fully patched versions but I would love for whoever to sort out licensing and do a proper remastered version, someone like Nightdive Studios.

Nolf 2 doesn't need updating imo, the revival abandonware version is pretty great and holds up pretty well.
But yeah it should be available proper purely so it's easier to install on devices like the steam deck.

I've downloaded both now, so I guess I'll see how they hold you after all these years.
Edit: tried them out, stellar work from the NOLF Revival site they both run beautifully and with all the modern resolutions and whatnot. Looking forward to getting back into them. I didn't get Contract Jack though, wasn't a fan of that one, should've been NOLF3.

Yeah played it recently NOLF2 is amazing and has loads of immersive SIM style ideas in it, or just levelling up in FPS games. Unbelievably ahead of its time for FPS gaming.
Also still funny.

NOLF 2 was fantastic. Lots of great ideas compared to other more straightforward shooters of the day.
Never did play the first one though.

It's a good game but I think NOLF 2 was Monolith at it's peak, better engine, better gameplay, better missions and great humour. I think their last great game was FEAR, although I believe they're working on a Wonder Woman game now so I guess we'll see how that goes.

Nightdive tried to sort out NOLF(2) right? but couldn't get to the bottom of the mess.

I think the situation was 'we don't know if we have the rights, we aren't doing anything with them, but we can't be bothered to check. But if you (nightdive) try to do anything we will then check if we have the rights and sue you.' Or something like that. Real stand-up stuff.
Given that situation, the fan patch seems a fair enough way to get around the problem. Those games don't deserve to be buried.

Anyone got Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 2 on PC? PC performance okay? Anyone played on Steam Deck?
First time they've been on sale for absolutely ages and I'm contemplating getting them.

Should be fine. Remastered is definitely the best way to play DS1 on PC, and as I recall it’s a locked but perfectly solid 60FPS throughout. Art style and general aesthetic pretty much makes up for the increasingly dated visuals. A stone cold classic.
DS2 was … fine? I guess. Not played that one in yonks, though. We’ve argued it to death but it’s far and away the weakest in the series for me. There’s just something off with it.

Nope, but you're right that it's the first decent discount in ages.
Though it's always annoyed me that the original Dark Souls was regularly discounted to $5-$10 and then they released the remastered version that apparently isn't much different than the original+mods and suddenly it's $50 and rarely discounted.
It mainly annoys me because I didn't grab the original when I had the chance.

I have both DS1 and 2, and DS1 remastered and Scholar of the first sin, and I think the latter are the way to go. I've had no issues with them straight out of the 'box'

I've been struggling with this sale a bit. Since the shift in price to 70 quid, the sale reductions just don't feel as exciting to me, putting me off going for some stuff id like to try.
I did just pick up Horizon's Gate and Timberborn, both of which I'm looking forward to giving a go. There are a few other things I might plump for, but the backlog is so long I feel I can barely justify it.

But it's $5 vs $20 for effectively the same game.
It's just a pet peeve of mine, like when Life is Strange was regularly reduced to $5 and then they released a Remastered version that everyone said was worse and suddenly that one is the only one reduced, and it never goes under $15.
Or when they did the same with all the old Infinity Engine game remasters.
But I'm a cheapskate.

I think its fair enough to not want to play a higher price for a remaster that barely makes a difference or is actively worse. That was particularly egregious for Life Is Strange, as there really is no issue with the original at all. For DS1, I guess you've got the extra content in the remaster (actually, was there missing stuff in Prepare to Die, I can't remember?), and the removal of having to apply that patch yourself, but the older version is certainly still playable (I've played both within the last year), if you have it.
I didn't realise the original wasn't on sale anymore, but i guess it makes sense. It would be better if it was cheaper though!

I mean, if it's a remaster on the level of something like System Shock then that's fine. But when it's basically the same game with a few tweaks/mods and it's triple the price... or when the original only came out a few years beforehand... it just seems like a bit of a scam to boost the price.

I see the Blizz sale is due to end in a day or so. I avoided WC3: Reforged at launch due to the backlash, but is it at least playable enough (SP campaign) to justify the £12? Not sure why, but fancy a little light RTS SP campaign action ...

The Enhanced Editions of the old IE-games are unfortunately all like this, more or less. At least you can still request the originals on gog. Don't know about steam.
Observer also was already quite affordable until they re-released it and I eventually lost interest.

It's the one time when the 'don't buy it in a steam sale unless you're going to play it immediately' rule doesn't work.

Yep, but on the other hand the Enhanced Editions are all very cheap at this point. (Edit: During sales.)
Momentarily thought of another one: Space Marine.

Yeah, it took about 5 years but they've dropped to about the original prices. But in that time they've mainly all been given away free, so I didn't have to buy them anyway

Shout out for Sniper Elite 4, not much different to 5 from what I gather. Very solid game for a fiver.

The Points Shop is absolutely broken in the new UI update. Click on "Items From Your Games" and it lists apparently every game on Steam, and in no discernible order whatsoever.
