Million Onion Hotel was the perfect mobile game for me. Its weird and funny and fun to play and I still regularly go back to it 4 years later. Bonkers. I rather like it. It's already a win for me because my son said (incredulously) "Are you playing Candy Crush?" and I was able to reply "No, Million Onion Hotel".

There's a new game out in the Netflix collection from the makers of Alto's Adventure/Odyssey: Lucky Luna.

Well it's no 'Comics Bob' but the family plays 'Monster Legends' which is fun enough.

Oh look, they have gone and made Subway Surfers Match... which is your typical match-3 game, with all that entails (not nearly enough moves for a stage unless you watch tons of ads or use boost items). I weep for the state of mobile games.
It's weird because Subway Surfers is actually a good example of a game that doesn't force you to pay or watch ads (you only get extra bonuses by watching ads, and money gets you new characters and costumes). So it sucks that they have gone for the standard "pay up, or die and lose energy" this time.

I rediscovered Candies and Curses today. I made some progress in the past, and some more tonight (finished the main story, but not the extra story which is a lot harder). It's an action platformer of sort, with a cute visual style that belies its difficulty.
It's a pretty good idea in itself, but the game gets hectic too fast, and it's effectively impossible to tell anything apart in the later stages. Shame. If it were a little bit easier, I'd be willing to play it more often.
I did buy the ads removal though, it was worth at least that.

So I played this on PC but wanted to highlight it in here as it's available for Android (no word on an iOS port yet, sadly). The itch.io link gets you PC, Mac and Android versions in one package (I assume there's a way to side load it onto your phone). Otherwise available on the Play store, dunno how much it is there.
...Just started playing Slice and Dice, available on itch.io for around 8 eurobucks. Very early stages here, but it looks like it might be a real hidden gem. It's a roguelike card battler, but with dice and heroes. Each hero has a die, and you roll your dice (two rerolls to start, more can be selected as rewards) and try and counteract the enemy actions, which you can see before they move. You need to try and balance offence and defence. For example here, from top to bottom I've rolled one mana, one damage (with an additional one damage because of a modifier), 1 health with an x3 modifier, and 2 shield. I can choose the dice that suit and have three rerolls in this scenario. To no avail, as the enemies on the right hand side are about to fuck me up. You upgrade both your dice and heroes and get items after every battle. Here I'm able to upgrade my Fighter to a Whirl(??) or a Gladiator, and you can see their dice faces, including blank faces:
I've only beaten it on Easy so far - I am thick - but it looks like it has unbelievable depth.

Cheers. That looks like perfect commute fodder! It's free to install from the play store btw, with a £5 in game fee to unlock the full thing.

Yeah give the demo a whirl, it's great craic! I think I heard the demo is a bit easier than the main game so bear that in mind.

I really enjoyed the first Knights of Pen & Paper game on android. Been a while since I gave it a whirl, but from what I recall you didn't have to spend any extra money in it.
The 2nd game didn't land quite as well with me, but I think they went with a more 'in-game purchase' approach

I think they updated the original a bit and added monetisation too. There was also a full version that I got from Humble Bundle IIRC that I downloaded the APK for and just never updated.
Similar feelings for the sequel after absolutely loving the first one.

What a relief to hear that we will all be able to play AC Mirage with ray tracing on our £1500 IPhone 15 Pros.
I was beginning to worry about how I was going to get by otherwise!

Apologies if we have a more general Android or phone thread, but couldn't find it. Might as well ask this android software/tech question here.
I've had this happen a couple of times when in London. I have the QR ticket for the train on my Google Wallet and I go to swipe it at the barrier, but when I glance at the phone I see that it has switched to my credit card. I then get a charge for the full fare. I can only assume that it is near enough to the NFC to pick it up for the card payment.
I understand on iPhones there is an option to turn off the automatic payment or something, so it will only do a card payment if you open the card on your wallet. Is there an equivalent on Android? I've looked for the option, but can't find anything.

You can turn off default card for payment, which should stop that, as it won't know what card to use (assuming you have more than one added to your wallet).
Related, thought I was going spare earlier. Went to open the wallet for my nectar card and all payment and loyalty cards had disappeared. Spent ages adding them back, but was getting confused why my Arsenal season ticket wasn't adding back on. Then realised that somehow the wallet had switched to another Google account that i have on the phone. 🤦
Edit: I was talking bollocks, ignore me. That doesn't work

My solution has ended up being just turning off NFC. Not ideal, but also not a big deal, as I have my credit card in my actual wallet in the outside slot. It's just as easy to swipe with that as it is with my phone. Can easily turn the NFC back on from the notification pull-down if I do need it.
Still, would be much better if I could just only have payments enabled if I open the card on the wallet. Seems like an obvious option to include, so surprised it isn't there.
