Was not aware of that specific accusation about Houser, but I have to admit, nearly all my interest in GTA6 is to see what the impact of Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies leaving, especially given the legal action by Benzies and implication of who contributed how much.
Although nothing was made public, I smell drama around the way Dan left too.

Doesn't look particularly inspired to me, looks largely like V in terms of gameplay but it's not really fair to say much on what's limited slice of a very old build. I just hope that after a decade they do make significant leaps in basics like mission structure and combat

What kills it for me is the npc’s constant babbling, like in that diner, they are just playing random samples. Maybe technology isn’t that far along yet, but some AI natural language models might be in order for everyone except the main characters. Completely agree, I thought the same thing. Dialogue in GTA has always been a constant broadside of random chatter and exclamation. It's just awful. They could surely code the dialogue so that people speak one at a time and reduce the general frequency of dialog... then tinker with it from there, to make people react accordingly during an armed robbery.

I just hope that after a decade they do make significant leaps in basics like mission structure and combat I'm happy to be completely wrong, but the only leap I can foresee is the leap to the RDR2 engine. Then once the single player game is done (complete with the same old stale mission structures, and maybe one or two new gimmicks) R* will focus squarely on getting everyone moved over to GTA VI Online as quickly as possible, to keep that sweet sweet cash rolling in. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Yes I'm cynical in my old age.

I suppose it could be levels and gameplay, dialogue, etc. intended for 6, but it looks worse than GTA 5, graphically and animation-wise. Hmm, I think your memories of GTA V might be betraying you there. Looking at the player models they are several levels of detail above.

Again we can't really judge what's obviously videos of a game in early development with placeholder assets and untextured models. Also does anyone know how old the videos are?

Well, you can only judge what you can see, but it seems pretty pointless to analyse it this early.

Hope they don't eliminate WFH for the team, because that's how it probably got out. I get that it looks bad in this early state, but we'll have forgotten by the time this comes out. And even buy a second copy when it comes out on PC a year later.

Exciting leak! Shame about the idiots complaining about the graphics, do they not know how game development works? Fucking ignorant. Love the setting! This will mean we've essentially had remasters of almost all the GTA areas. Hope London is next, or DLC?!

I bet after the source code leak this puts the project back a year or two. They'll halt the project, move teams around in an attempt to contain further leaks, consider the audience response and tweak the project, possibly revise the code to remove itself somewhat from that which leaked.
My money is on this game not seeing the light of day for another 2 - 3 years at least. Either that, or the project will get cut short and released as a smaller offline-only game, with a richer online offering following it on a few years later.
Either way, GTA fans lose out today.

Because you can take their favourite game of all time and at some point in it's development it was also a terrible looking, buggy piece of shit. But it gets sorted by the end.

I doubt it. They won't halt a project with hundreds of people working on it around the globe. It'll keep going while their internal and legal teams deal with the leaks and clamp down on security. There's no release date anyway so there's nothing to delay - I wouldn't have thought it would be seeing release until late 24 at the earliest regardless, and GTA always sees delays after announcement. It'll make life harder for the people working on it as they'll be required to jump through more hoops just to do their jobs but they'll keep moving along.

No doubt a dumb question but why is the source code leak bad? What could this mean?

Its basically a leg up for their competitors, who have been a few leaps behind in terms of open world GTA-like games. GTA games have a lot of world detail in regards to AI interaction and such and now that code is freely available.
Whilst developers can't just directly copy that source code, its now all out there to be to be referenced. It'll shorten the workload for companies interested in expanding and structuring their GTA like games.

Then again, some companies, like Ubisoft, probably wont care for that sort of thing. They have a very particular project scipe when it comes to making open world games. I could see games like Saints Row, with a mid-tier budget, taking interest, however.

There's no way any legitimate, respected developer with a franchise is going to be looking at that source code as a reference. What are you talking about?

Yeah historically they have taken a fairly harsh view on modders. GTA5 is the 3rd highest streamed game on Twitch right now. A near on 10 year old game with a _terrible_ online infrastructure.

There's no way any legitimate, respected developer with a franchise is going to be looking at that source code as a reference. What are you talking about? Because thats how you learn to code. Not strictly the only way, obviously, but you disect other peoples work to better understand how something works. Part of my degree was looking at example projects, understanding systems and how they work and then adapting what I had learned to build on or improve something (or implement something far quicker than starting from scratch). Granted, my degree related to game development, not computer science, but for example, I had to implement a flocking behaviour for some birds that followed a mouse cursor around a screen, without crashing into each other and such. I learnt that in a single 2 hour lession and got it implemented and working in a game project with my team within a week.
