How do you save scum the first level boss?

I'm still trying to figure this game out. It's good and I love the style but it is feeling hella grindy.

Yes I believe this is beatable, with my ageing skill set.
Last night I watched a bit of Elden Ring boss footage and came away thinking fuck that for a lark.

Edit, I beat Sekiro but made no progress with Nioh2 recently.

Which is lucky as the boss is a pain in the arse.

The bundle was supposed to give you early access and you also get some free digital tat, soundtrack and an art book thing. Just buy the game.

Fuck the third boss is tough.

At times it reminds me of Sleeping dogs in terms of the impact of certain moves. Just have that 'sick' feel to them.

I didn't find him too bad, got him second attempt. Just keep close to him and keep ducking his attacks. Don't be too agressive, build up your focus and focus sweep him, following up on the ground.

2nd boss really is the game giving you a skill check for the dodge mechanic. Haven't had chance to play since I almost beat him on my 2nd attempt, but as soon as I got the dodge down he was soooo much easier to manage.

Level 3 has some fantastic sections.

Is the evade / dodge R2? Because I spam that and find it alright to progress.

Right, but what is the timing? Because I’m watching YT videos and people are parrying everything. Look at the no death video above, for example. But it doesn’t work. I can’t work out the timing, and “just before you get hit” isn’t a good enough instruction because that’s what I’m doing and it’s just not successful.
I can dodge attacks, and I can evade and guard. But parry is vital for certain enemies to interrupt their attacks, unless you want individual fights to just become a war of attrition and hope you have enough lives to make it through. The kick-boxer looking dude in the club level, and neon dudes being 2 examples. You can beat them but it’s not efficient, and you’ll never maximise your lives.

I'm not sure that "just try timing it right" is the best advice to someone asking what the right timing is.

Watched some ninja parry every weapon strike from the third boss, impressive stuff.
