So, for someone starting this tomorrow (and Friday in earnest) - are there any general, non-spoiler tips you wish you knew at the start? Or is it better to just barrel ahead and discover it all for myself? Just get stuck in and enjoy the chaos. I don’t think I’ve gained anything in the way of wisdom after 30 odd hours. None. It’s all just a glorious mess.

Yeah, to completion (though I never played Dark Arisen) when it launched, feel like I've forgotten a lot though.
In that case, I'd say going in blind shouldn't pose any problems - many of the core gameplay elements remain the same, and the changes they've made aren't massively discombobulating. You'll feel at home in no time.
That said, there are several DD vets here who'll be able to answer the question better than I can. (I only played DD1 four years ago, so it was reasonably fresh in my mind.)
Either way, have fun! You're in for a treat.
Oh, and do keep us abreast of your (mis)adventures

I'm still hanging back on this in the hope they are going to deliver on good performance improvements but still loving dipping into this thread for comments from those playing. It largely sounds ace! But I am a little nervous I'm going to find it too challenging! (I tend to play most games on "Easy" difficulty settings now days as I prefer to not burn hours of my shortening over the hill downhill life on high difficulty gaming lol!)

Thanks wunty and Ulythium - blind it is!
Can't fucking wait.
Rough idea on how long character creation/tutorial bits take? Want to get these bits polished off before I have a 6+ hour run at the game on Friday.

Just go for it, anything that seems incredibly vague you can just look up, it's a bit like Elden Ring in that regard with its obtuseness. Most of the fun is just exploring and discovering stuff.

The character creation is as long as you want it to be really. I did mine with the character creator demo before the game released, spent about 30 minutes as I already had a good idea of what look I wanted.

You're better off using the character creator in advance. That way, you can take your time without being distracted by the game you could be playing.

Bearing in mind if you balls it up and accidentally end up with a character that looks like one that didn't make the shortlist for the Garden of Eden, you can spend 500 Rift Crystals once you reach the capital and re-do yourself (or your pawn). RCs are harder to come by earlier on but after a while you end up with a few thousand if you're mainly hiring friends pawns so it's not a biggie. I ended up reverting to pretty much a default design with just a few tweaks. It turns out I don't make a very good creator. I have the same problem in every game. "Right, I'm going to make someone that looks cool", followed by NPCs screaming and running for cover once my abomination blunders into the nearest town.

You'll end up regretting it 40 hours later like me if you don't. Aside from that just jump in and enjoy!

rhaegyr As robthehermit said, you can download the character creator separately - worth doing if you can find a spare half-hour or so today, as you'll be able to jump straight into the game when the chance arises. The tutorial section wasn't very long (30-60 minutes, I reckon). Also, which platform are you on? There are plenty of forum members' gaming IDs in this thread, so add away if you want ready access to free pawns!

Stash your materials as often as you can Fast travel is very limited, so enjoy the ride Always carry extra lantern oil (just a couple of bottles is fine) Love the jank Hire Billy

Don't stress TOO much, and never buy it. Food you carry goes rotten after a while and that can be made into lantern oil very easily once it does so.

Rather than carry extra lantern oil I've gotten into the habit of stealing my main pawn's lantern. She can see just fine without it!

Also, material for enhancing gear comes from storage too, so don't lug it about with you, shove it in to the inns as soon as possible as others have said.
Harpys are annoying. Always have an archer or ranged ability to sort those out.

I don’t think I’ve needed to fill up my lantern more than once in over 26 hours or playtime, so don’t worry about it!
For new starting tips, I’d suggest recruiting a Mage to your party early on (if you or your Pawn don’t take on that role) so you have some healing spells available. It’s less of an issue once you’ve built up a stock of healing items, but very useful early on.
Also, do use the crafting (Combining) to turn the foods and grasses into potions and roborants - that makes them more powerful and means they won’t go rotten in your inventory. A single healing item often weighs less than the component parts too.
Enjoy!

Went back to find the medusa cave. Found it, horrible business. Both pawns got petrified so it was up to me and big Dunc to sort it out. NAY BOTHER.
Switched back to Thief and going to explore this island once I've escorted Sigurd on his little quest. I will miss the mystic spearhand's god mode bubble, for sure, but as a whole found the class a bit dull.
Getting a bit worried about Duncan, been on a bit of a dragon slaying spree and he's definitely not himself. He stood there pummelling a pillar for now reason at all and wouldn't stop.

I like Dunc, he's a good sort. Need to hire him again actually. Him and Billy always worked well together smashing things in the face.

So I’ve got back to battahl through the sea floor shrine. I think that’s a one way shortcut though right? Even so I might pick up my battahl port crystal while I’m here.

I inadvertently drowned all my pawns at the seabed shrine. Oops. I had previously thrown them all in the sea at Harve as a precaution as I was a bit worried about Billy…

Can you re-name pawns as well as change their appearance?
I really want to make Lingerie Danny DeVito.
