Well anyway. June is only 3 months away! Sadly I realised I’m at a wedding the weekend it comes out. The bride and groom will understand if I sneak away to play it., right?

youtu.be/jhJxtb0beEQZangief vs Marisa. Marisa looks excellent. Her design and animations look really really good. A great addition. Zangief looks fucking terrifying. In the right hands, the drive attack will be horrible horrible horrible. And the dropkick to wallsplat..!

In my efforts to be FG FGC representative and post in the same thread a bunch of times in a row, here’s Cammy vs the very tall Manon:
Manon looking weird. Not sure if she’s going to be good or bad tbqh, but I’m not the biggest fan of her movements.
Cammy, though.. Cammy will be a problem.
9 weeks to go!

I think she looks weird because of her costume. The arse cutouts make her look really angular and it doesnt help that she is fighting the shortest person in the cast. Im also toying with the idea of getting a victrix BFG www.amazon.co.uk/Victrix-ProCon-BFG-Wireless-Controller/dp/B0B9LDPXBFDue to the location of my PS5, I need something wireless and coming up short on sticks (or, more desirably, a hitbox for my aging thumbs)

Oooh I wonder when that will be?
Is it weird that I hope it’s the same beta as before? Same eight characters? Because folks playing the cracked version with all the characters a few month before release feels a bit wrong to me.

Showcase planned with Lil Wayne (!!) on 20th April: youtu.be/0Mmm9MYZOIsThe video teaser briefly shows Damnd and a fantastic alt costume for Kimberley. I guess they’ll show more World Tour mode, and if there was going to be an open beta then that would be the time to announce it.

Demo is of world tour and very limited local vs - only Luke and Ryu. It’s coming to other platforms on the 26th.

Something really cool they mentioned was that you can create clubs - and then create an item of clothing for everyone’s avatar in that club to wear! So we could theoretically all walk around wearing FGIO hats or whatnot. Also the new lobbies look fantastic. Multiple “machines”! The ability to go into training mode with another player to lab stuff! Really really nice.
Edit: also, they are very clearly trying to make this the most approachable fighting game ever made. Hope it works out for them, honestly - the amount of effort they’ve put into this is amazing.

The training mode stuff is fantastic. VF4 Evo had these characters specific guides and combos and it really made me fall deeply for that game so glad to see an even greater expanded one here. They're even teaching you in World Tour mode subtly too with the white flash on enemies indicating timing on how to punish counter enemies.
Seems like in their effort to delay the game, they just about included every single request anyone has made for a fighting game. I'd dare say its the pinnacle at this point, if you can't get into fighting games with this much help from the devs then it might not be for you.

Is there a training mode in the demo? I wouldn't mind labbing if possible.

I dont think so. I only had an hour for lunch, so mainly dicked around in the character creator and world tour mode. I think the closest you can get is the character tutorial mode and not complete the tutorial, if you see what I mean.

Yeah VF4e was the high bar but I think this might top it. Additionally the training mode (which was in the beta) had multiple bits you cold dog into where it would configure the sunny to let you train specific aspects - such as dealing with jump ins or aggressive fighters, things like that. It’s super good. Having said that: modern controls can die in a fire.

Nah, disagree. Modern controls are a great way of getting people into fighting games. We need fresh blood and the old ways of gatekeeping need to die imo.
Regardless I'm amazed at how much god damn work they've put into this, definitely looks like they're gunning after Netherrealm for content.

Oh I totally accept that, it’s just annoying that they’re put on by default. For a game which has had so much effort out into it, changing control schemes is weirdly obtuse.

My theory is, well it's not a theory as it's very obvious, but they're aiming this massively as a very approachable and accessible fighter to people who may not have even considered a fighting game. Those same people probably wouldn't even look at the control scheme and go straight to the single player campaign and let that tell them how to play the game because that part of the game explicitly makes you use modern controls upto chapter 1 essentially they're training wheels. Capcom already know more experienced people will be changing the controls to suit their own tastes and for button checks, casual people won't do that. I think they've definitely looked at it this way, because when I tried this last night I went straight into Fighting Ground.

Tbf, the demo is 1000% aimed at people who have never played a fighting game before. It’s not another beta for people who are already going to buy it.
But, yeah, it seems good. I was finding the PS5 dpad a bit stiff so I’m definitely going to need to get a qanba drone or that victrix pad

Onny It looks great first of all and the presentation is what the series has needed for so long. I wish that it was current gen only like Tekken 8 and presumably MK12, but I understand it's about getting it in the hands of many people as possible. I watched the showcase and I was kind of taken aback by how much they've put in this, it's almost as if they've taken every question and request by the FGC community and answered by the amount of content in here. The world tour seems cool and I can see what they've taken from Monster Hunter because there's definitely some synergy going on. One thing that surprised me was how I always thought it looked heavy to play but it's incredibly responsive and I'm not sure if it's me but it felt even easier to pull of combos than 5. Massively pumped for June, I think I might even shell out for the deluxe version to get the 1 year character pass.

Played it a bit last night. Not a huge amount of content, unfortunately, with less than an hour of the world tour mode and only a couple of characters in the Fighting Ground section. I only did the versus mode in the Fighting Grounds, so perhaps there is more to see in the other modes.
Was a little disappointed with what I saw in the World Tour mode. Interesting tone they are going for, with sort of a fighting game version of the silly side of a Yakuza game. The actual fights felt a bit meh though. When you first go out into the street,.you are told to fight a couple of people. I first ran up to a level 1 person and beat them nice and easily. I then ran up to a level 9 person and... also beat them really easily. Only real difference was they had more health.
The fights also felt a bit sluggish in places, particularly when they first started. Frame rate would settle, but it was surprising for something that really didn't look that special. It all kind of looked a bit janky really, perhaps inevitably with a game that is obviously focused on a 2D presentation for the most part.
It was also a bit disappointing that my Qanba Drone didn't really work in this mode. They accommodated the right stick (hold the R1 button and use other face buttons to look around), but when I was asked to push down on the d-pad there didn't seem to be an alternative and I was stuck without switching to the pad.
The main game is obviously the Fighting Ground side and that was all great. I don't know my fighting games, so can't really go into detail, but felt satisfying and appeared to control nicely. I stuck with classic controls, as I assume they will be more flexible in the long run, but don't have much of an issue with the modern option.

Change the graphic settings to Performance for a better frame rate, it seems the resolution mode is default for some strange reason and it plays out at a low frame rate in World Tour fights.
