malek86 You have two desktop.ini files on your desktop. Don't we all.

If you aren't using your desktop, why do you even need a monitor

I just press the super key (or Win or cmd, depending on what computer I’m at, though it’s cmd-space on macos which might explain a little why I’ve come to dislike it so much) and type a few letters of the name of the thing I want to launch. So much pressing and typing. I can just click.

I've never, not ever, liked having icons on the desktop

Same. I like blank desktops... (I know I said it was Flickr pic of the day, but that's the lockscreen)

I pretty much only look at my wallpaper in its entirety right after I log in, but I can’t imagine just not having one. It peeks at me from around my windows and that’s enough for me to feel all comfy and cozy inside.

The asymmetry is breaking my mind. The weird boxes on the Files System Web Media links at the bottom, and the complete lack of dock on the second screen.
I think I need to restart my operating system ⌛️

Ah, (Switcher) shows open windows and their positions on each desktop (for some reason) and the lack of a taskbar on the second screen is a personal choice thing. It just duplicates it anyway. It looks different on two screens.
Hmmmph!

So, how do you clean desktop fanatics deal with something like this:

Use a UI mod to make it less of a shitshow. Paradox games have universal garbage UIs.

The part I think you're failing to understand is that our desktops aren't clean because we're hyper adverse to clutter, it's because we never see it.
Conversely, I'm struggling to imagine these people who sit there and stare at it with no windows open.

I like to keep my desktop clutter free. My work laptop is another matter entirely, I pretty much dump everything that doesn't need to be saved in our shared and protected drives onto the desktop. Everything.

it's because we never see it. Don't understand this argument either. If you never see it, what does it matter if it's messed up? Also, the argument holds no water if we transfer it to real desks. Of course, real desks have to be dusted off, so keeping those empty kind of makes sense if less effort for cleaning is more important to you than having your stuff ready. Turn it off because it looks boring and play something with guns in it There are actually a lot of guns in this screenshot. At least 125 arc emitters, 5 perdition beams and over 500 neutron launchers from my own fleets alone. Those are the green ones. Oh, I forgot the star bases, so add to that around 120 ion cannons and about the same amount of kinetic artillery.

So, you're telling me that people who keep crap on their desktop are hoarders with a pile of soiled adult nappies filling one room of their house? Seems to add up.

Can't speak for all of them, but personally I have almost all of my belongings all spread out over my desk. It gives me quick access and an overview of everything. Only stuff stowed away is unimportant crap like clothes and archived paperwork and so on.

Honestly this whole discussion reminds me of ringtones. Remember when they were all the rage, and you’d have different tones for different people and so on, and now basically everyone just leaves it on vibrate or the generic ring, and anyone who still has a custom ringtone is viewed as a boomer.

I keep my phone on vibrate so I guess I'm one to talk, but I do find it so boring to hear the same default iPhone ringtone coming out of everyone's phone. Everybody acting like "is that me? Oh is that you?" My kingdom for a 2001 Usher ringtone for once.

anyone who still has a custom ringtone is viewed as a boomer. Just embrace it. I use one of these as ringtone at all times, with extra high volume:
A bit offtopic, but really, how great is FF7 OST? That game would only have been half as good without the excellent music.
