If they could streamline the menu'ing some it would be great. The menus are pretty damn confusing. And it would be nice to explain some of the mechanics like risk etc. But I suppose that's part of the fun.. like Dark Souls just figure it out yourself. Would be nice to have the option to set and quickswap equipment sets to reduce the amount of menu time too

At least they're modest.

Ohh, the three Apogee platformer remasters - Crystal Caves, Secret Agent and Monster Bash - are on sale on GOG. Bought. The old versions on Dosbox are simply a bit too jerky and laggy for my taste (different story when I played them on the old PC).
I wonder if we'll ever get a Commander Keen remaster eventually.

There was the GBC release but I never played it may have been an original title

Yes, used a Vita Hack Guide on the net somewhere. Looked complicated but actually was pretty straightforward. vita.hacks.guide/Actually is this allowed on here? Sorry if not, please delete

Anyone used the GameCube digital-HDMI adapters you’re knocking out for about £70? Updated the TV and waved so long to SCART.

I seen a 24in Panasonic CRT on Gumtree near me lately for less than that.
I got a PS2 HDMI adapter thing which does a fine job considering it costed £15.

I use one like this on my Wii and it works fine. I can't say I noticed a massive improvement in video quality or anything, but I guess it's sharper. No idea if it'd work for Gamecube. Also, there are dozens that all look like the same dropshipped models, so this one might not be exactly the one I have. Dirt cheap though. www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-GANA-Converter-Connector-Output/dp/B078Y58RN9?th=1

You're taking a real gamble with cheap HDMI adapters. I've got the same cheap HDMI adapter for the Wii as these guys which is perfectly serviceable, but I've also had one for the PS2 that went straight in the bin.
I'm sure that the Retrobit Prism is great though (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to). The company is well known and usually puts out good stuff

I've looked into SD2VITA but the thing that always put me off was losing the game card slot. Kinda wished I had the 3G model so I could get one of those kits to replace the 3G card with a microSD adapter

There was talk of the store being discontinued for Vita but I never really used it.

I've read a few reddit posts that you still can. I already own a bunch of Vita games so saves me having to find an illegal copy..

Having to get your games from that download list is punishment enough.

Yeah a few years of grabbing PS Plus games and I got no idea what I have and what I don't have...

I foolishly downloaded about 100 of the PS1 archive games when they were up on Plus and every time you resub it moves everything you've ever claimed to the top of the list so it's borderline unusable at this point.

Just finished putting a Noctua fan in my Dreamcast, the kit I bought had a bit snap on me but fixed it with a cable tie and hidden away, luckily it was only the latch and cant be seen.
Next is replace the battery in the console with a new socket that accepts a rechargable 2032 battery, actually got to do my first bit of soldering.

The trick with soldering is having the right gear for the job. Many people assume that if you've got a soldering iron and some solder then you're good, but you can often make a job 100 times easier by spending £3 or so on some crap. Feel free to ask any questions along those lines

Sinden set up and working in MAME! Took about an hour and a half to get to that point though; previous experience with MAME really helped.
Tried Time Crisis as it's a game I can normally 1CC on a CRT. It's really impressively close to the original experience. The main thing is that there is a tiny lag, generally imperceptible, but advanced players might notice it's not keeping up with lightning fast movements as well as a classic device. I reckon Point Blank might suffer a bit when I try it out. This could be down to the small input lag of my TV or anything though since it's using all modern tech.
Feels really high quality in the hand too, as good as if not better than the official Namco controllers. There's a real heft to the recoil version.
The main complaint is the software utility which is a bit overcomplicated and looks a bit thrown together, but they say they're working on it. I reckon with some more care and attention they could make this thing plug and play.
Other than that this could easily be an official product and if I was Namco I'd seriously consider licensing the tech.

Thanks for the write-up, I’ve been considering the Sinden myself. It’s been a while since I played the original Time Crisis but I do think it’s a good test because it’s all about landing single shots perfectly accurately all the time.
When I’ve seen videos on it, it does seem to have some sort of processing delay in there which can get pretty bad if the system has too much load on it; I wonder if it’ll improve in time as processors etc get quicker or if it’s already topped out. Or maybe if you can do a run ahead type thing in the emulator like with Retroarch to overcome it. That would need a monster processor for System 22 in MAME though!

I'll play with it some more tonight. To be honest comparing it to CRT lightguns is unfair and unrealistic as the entire pipeline there was zero lag, whereas this has a lot more hurdles to overcome, some of which are completely out of its control. It does really well considering. I'd be more than happy if it became the defacto lightgun tech going forward

Wow, after more tweaking, I’m actually even more impressed. A lot of what I was chalking up to lag was actually jitter because I was sat too close to the TV.
Just beat Time Crisis and my accuracy rating is pretty much bang on what I’d get on the CRT version.
One thing that had been really confusing me was that it registers a totally different button press to the PC if it thinks you’re aiming off screen, and apparently I was not aiming at the screen when mapping the controls so some stuff wasn’t working, some stuff was duplicated, etc. So FYI.
Really really good. I stand by what I said earlier that this would be absolutely fine as a consumer product sold to the masses if devs built it into a console game.

I've been messing around with a Launchbox build for a while and I was thinking how good it would be to play some lightgun games.
I haven't been able to get Sega Model 2 games working yet, but if I did this would be tempting (love House of the Dead). I heard that there's almost a year wait so it put me off a bit, but it sounds like the wait could be worth it.
Good to read your real world impressions.
